Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

TO, one of my dreams is to go storm chasing on the plains... I hate being stuck someplace with no windows......

And the emergency plan we have? We were supposed to be our tornado shelter locations last night, but nobody knew to switch their radios to channel 1 so all the announcements could be heard...... I just sat in the lab working away thinking somebody would come get me if we were supposed to be in the shelters....... either that or my DH would have called and told me to move it into safety. No way will I rely on my employer to keep me safe! Boneheads......

A good way, to keep up with the weather is one of those small weather radio's, small like a pack of cards, battery, i keep one with me, you can even set it so it go's off when a watch or warning come up.

Well we made it through. Dr ha hasn't been on today hope all is ok with him. We got hit with everything at 830. Went down at 8 to get ready, came back up and was going to go down at 830 and boom, pouring! Got soaked getting everyone into safety, but all are ok. Was up all night with the weather, girls were fine most of the night. I'm not one for storms so getting up at 5 this morning sucked. Glad everyone is ok though.

Bl4 and Terri- Thanks for the advice and will keep it in mind if it gets to hard. So far, so good. Just hate having homework in summer.
Well have to go clean up some tree limbs from last night.

Our power went out at 10:20 last night, and didn't come back on until 11:30 this morning! Apparently, a tree went down on the line, caught fire, and then the next pole caught fire, and it was a mess.

We had to teach the new neighbors on the other side of the duplex that once the power goes out, since we're both on the same pressure tank, we only have so many flushes before the pressure tank is drained and we don't have any water!

We had a few minutes of some scary straight-line winds that blew the neighbor's satellite dish around so that it's pointing in the opposite direction now, but other than that, there's no damage. Not even a tree down (that we can see - I haven't hiked back into the back few acres today yet).

All the birds are fine - not as many eggs this morning as usual though!

Glad to hear everyone is OK! We came through it pretty good. We had the straight line winds too it's understandable with the nator in Pittsville. Had to put a pan under the window air conditioner and towels around it, it was pushing the rain right through. The girls were freakin! Tried to get them inside but they just wanted to run around like their heads were cut off. Dumped 4 1/4" out of the gauge this morning. Had to support a couple of heavily laden pepper plants but other than that no damage. Finally cleaned out the coop just couldn't handle it till now. Have 6 seeds now for the Peatwo project surprised to be getting any. Brownies eye is almost fully open but I'm worried about her she came by me while weeding yesterday and I gave her some treats from the garden and she couldn't pull the leaves apart. So I tore it up for her and she ate it. Gave her oatmeal with raisins this morning along with some grapes. Think she'll be OK she's all over the yard but avoids the other girls because they pick on her scabby spots. Replanted the spinach it had bolted and planted some lettuce. Just can't get enough of it. BCC sorry to hear of you submerged garden, hope it drains quickly! Have to pop 2 loaves and a pan of cin/raisin in the oven and make a beer run. Then fresh water for the kids. Have a good rest of the day!

Survived the storm here too. Got at least 2", maybe more. Our big wheel barrow is about 1/3 full, that's alot of water in one night. Had the munchkin crawl into our bed when the big booms started again about 1am. Power flicked off twice, but came right back. Annarie, in power outages we keep a 5-gal pail of water for flushing toilets. Just pour in a gallon or two and it will flush, no need to deplete the water tank pressure

Picked just a smidge of green beans a day or two ago and today they've exploded! Must have been all that lightning last night. Waiting waiting waiting for those first ripe tomatoes...

And some of my little cockerals have started crowing this week. It's got to be one of the funniest noises I've ever heard! Like strangled geese!! I need to get that on video

Also posted some pics of 2 suspiciously-looking-like-roos, one EE and my one Ameraucana from Jim at the Bash. So far everyone concurs I've got 2 roos

Yeah, usually we would have had a couple buckets sitting in the tub ready for the power to go out - but the power didn't actually go out until the storm had pretty much passed by - we thought it was over! Mom had already gone to bed, so it was just me and my 17-year-old sister, and I was too worried about the youngest ducklings without their heat-lamp, and that dumb Shepherd down in the basement barking because he's scared of the dark, and the tarps blowing off of the new duck pen that I was planning on water-sealing today to think about too much else!

We didn't run any water at all, but when I got up this morning and I tried to get the ducklings some water, I turned on the sink and nothing came out! Talked to the neighbors, and they had no idea that the water stops pumping when the power goes out! They were also upset that their automatic garage door opener wasn't working.

My silly 17-year-old sister actually called into work this morning and stayed home because she couldn't shower.

Took the runt kitten back to to the shelter today for some more fluids. He looks perkier.

Anyways, off to Home Depo. I have the pen drying in in the sun right now - even if I don't get the plywood on today, I want to at least get it cut and ready to go. Only three more days until I drive down to get the new Call ducks!

Somebody at my Mill has a sign up that they have calls...I am so tempted! All this talk is making me crazy. I promised to get rid of birds this summer NOT add to them!

Picked my first pea pods yesterday...they were ready to pick but they are so little! I must have gotten a different variety this time. My zucchini is only coming up in 1 hill and one type of yellow summer squash isnt coming up at all! I think I will replant if I dont have some plants by the weekend.

My 1 Ameracauna is very similar to yours Amyable but the other one is a much lighter grey. They are starting to get their beards in--so cute. The darker one survived being pulled through the puppy pen wires by my Parson's Terror. I though it would perish for sure. The only lasting damage is around the eyes...I think the membranes tore a bit so it doesnt close its eyes so well. Hopefully it will be OK. I think one MIGHT be a hen...not really sure yet. One of my guineas is limping today too. It has a little blood on its beak so I dont know if it got caught by a branch last night or what. Silly birds roost outside high in the mulberry tree! THe hen abandoned the nest for good now...maybe she will make another one. I have to show some "how to" videos to the boys I guess...I am going to put my racing pigeon boy in there too...all his hen's eggs have been clear!

Ya know the last time BigZ posted he said something about being off or gone or something like that...I remember commenting that I hoped he wasnt leaving us...anybody have any idea?

Glad everyone survived the storms--we never lost power here; but all it did was rain and thunder a bit...I am going to check the rain gauge when I go out tonight. I am still very sore from my fall; couldnt wait to get home from work. I stopped at the courthouse to see the survey and got the measurements between the rods on the corners of our property. The guy said he would do a line fence for me for $3/foot. According to the sketch over the aerial picture my neighbor is WAY into my pasture with his corn. I guess we will see when I measure.

Good night everyone...we should all be pretty tired from being up all night last night! Terri O

We didn't have any problems with the rain last night here-just listened to it rain throughout the night, it started here about 11:30 pm and no extras crawling in with us last night!

Still making the trips to the fair twice a day to take care of the chickens and turkeys. Judging is all finished, DS did fine with his Cloverbud projects, they give all the kids a participation ribbon. DD did very well with all 37 of her projects
ep.gif
she got 21 blues, 13 reds and 3 whites(Mort was one of them!) She also received the Standard Champaion with her Blue Andalusian pullet "Blueberry" and has 2 more chickens that received top blue. For her turkeys her Broad Breasted White Tom received Reserve Champion in the breed lot. She was one cloud 9 after all that and wants to continue- guess DH and I will be building some more pens!! Friday evening is the small animal meat sale so we will see what her 2 meat turkeys do
fl.gif

On the other hand my garden needs lots of help-weeds and plants alike

Off to get the kids ready for bed have to be at the fair by 7:30 am to feed and clean cages as needed and then onto helping out in several areas that our club is required to do. Probably will be there again all day- Sunday night can't come soon enough!
