Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Well, I haven't made any more progress on the duck pen. Woke up yesterday, and our little runt foster kitten had passed away overnight.

Cutest kitten in the litter, and everyone's favorite. We were talking about adopting him once he was old enough.

No idea what happened - he's the one that's been going in for fluids because he had a fever and was dehydrated, but the med staff at the shelter checked him two days in a row, on the second day he sat and played with the IV tube while they were running the fluids, he was perky, and he finally had a HUGE appetite - and then, just like that, dead.

Anyways, I have a few hours of work today, then I need to hustle and get that pen done. Need to be up at 5:30 tomorrow morning to make the 3 hour drive down to get the new Call ducks. I should have pictures of them to post by early afternoon!

I'm sorry about the kitten Annarie!

I know you've been working so hard for those kittens...Poor thing. At least you know you did everything you could. Maybe it was some underlying problem that was unseen, and in the end was for the best?

Have a safe trip tomorrow if I don't log in before then. Yaaay baby duckies!

I'm so sorry Annarie! You were working so hard with that little kitten.

Raiquee- this house is for sale down the road from me and when I saw it I thought I should pass it on.

If the link doesn't work look up dodge county, herman. It's a nice little place, not that pretty on the outside, but I know the owners fixed up the inside. Only down fall is it's close to Hwy 33 and that can get busy at times as far as noise goes.
Well I have a baby goat in the house again. Was to weak to nurse, so I brought it in. DH wasn't thrilled, but he will make it. We named him Ned. Finally starting to be active. He was born on Thursday night. Bottle babies are nice, but they are alot of work. Have been doing my homework all day and thought I should take a break. This Anatomy&Physiology class is killing me. Way harder than I thougth it would be. The Anatomy part isnt hard it's the physiology part that sucks!
Oh DrHa- If you would like I could hatch some silver pencil chicks for you. Was just thinking of that when I was down there this morning. Let me know. You could always have my King Louie until you hatch your new roo. He is by himself right now because the other boys pick on him. It's my fault that they do, I put him in solitary when he went after me because I was in shorts, and left him in to long, and now the other boys pick on him. He gets to come out every couple of days when I'm home to lock up the other boys. Well got to go. More homework to do.

Home from the shower...she got some nice things. It was just family and us so little. Man,,,the grandparents must be loaded though...he and his brother have side by side NICE houses right on Green Lake and they bought the next place and knocked the house down so their lot would be bigger and also own the two lots across the little road. They built a nice "cottage" on there for the kids and also own another cabin type house on the other end of the lake! Brother...the cool part is that they share with their kids too...well, I guess that is what MOST parents do anyway--

Guess that wouldnt be for me though...I couldnt travel like they do to their houses in the Keys and Alabama...what would I do with my chickens??? Me and DH would look like the Beverly Hillbillies traveling down the road!

Too bad about the kitten Annarie...I hate when that happens! It is hard on the heart exsecially since he was a special one to you. Safe travels to IL for your ducks tomorrow!

Gotta go out and weed now that I am hydrated again...my gardens are calling me! Terri O

Annarie- sorry to hear about the kitten

, it's always hard to lose one even a foster.

Only one day of fair left

and all the running back and forth will slow down. We will pick up all projects tomorrow evening. Had the small animal meat sale last night and the 2 turkeys Erin had in the sale were bought- she did alright! I think we are all faired out-I'm pooped and the kids are crabby!

Starting this next week, we have to try and get the garden weeded and see what we have-the weeds are taking over

and I have another unit to get ready for the last week of this month and boy is it grimy feeling and needs a lot of cleaning

.

Off to check on the turkeys and chickens and maybe the garden!

So sorry about the kitten annarie being a cat person I understand. I always like to pick the runt and see the underdog win. Add me to list of well wishers for your trip. beckyschicks it was a real toss up between the slw's and the penciled. They are very pretty birds too. Thanks for your offer we'll see how things pan out with the bator.

Hang in there with the schooling I know it's a "B" going back. H&R if your garden is anything like ours good luck finding it. Seems like you get done with it and start over with all the rain we've been getting. Stopped at the BFF's on the way home from the sauna/wedding to help him move a couple of dressers in the house and his garden is unbelieveable. But he has a lot of ching stuck in it too. The kids are all in bed and the bator has 8 seeds in it. Been tweeking the thermo a bit so the temp is just right on top of the eggs all is good. Thanks to the tutalage of fm! I'm going to bed.

Well I posted some pics of my swollen turkeys on The Emergencies place and in the turkey place. (thanks H&R) I havent gotten any response as yet but it sounds like mycoplasma galleseptm (or something like that) I am too frazzled to remember what it is exactly but it sounds pretty bad by what I have read...I might be operating a closed flock for quite some time!
On another note; while I was out there I snapped this pic of those 4 baby ducks from my chocolate muskovy. They are starting to get wing feathers now. one is really white and there is one with a mottled sort of chest. It was getting pretty dark so I guess you cant see too much--just thought it was cute how they were all piled up together! There new sibs should be hatching any day now...

Good night--hope you found that garden H&R--never did get to mine when I discovered this new sickness thing

I hope it turns out to be not what I am thinking! Terri O

Evening to All...My gosh have you ever patted yourself on the back and kicked yourself in the rear for being smart and stupid at the same time? I've been trying to place the two new flocks into one happy family. It works good to move the wire seperation by the pop hole allowing a flock a day the outside pen...until some like the middle for a roost crashing the wall down, and blocking the entrance to the coop, while busting one of the waterers apart (of course it was full) and the flock stuck outside unable to get home....I'm happy, I was here to clean the mess and shu the folks in. It just seems that you can't let your guard down for a moment. The close almost constant eye seems to rule someway. The three amigos are quite the trio...
lau.gif

Dr H..good luck with the hatching... I hope you are blessed with new bo boo"s. Jim says it's a illness to look at eggs that aren't being eaten and think they myswell be in the bator hatchen...he sold a bunch more today...and just keeps setten more and sellen more and stayen happy as hell hatchen and sellen and stayen happy as one can be....everyday is a blessing....only so many...might just as well be hatchin and sellin....keep er plugged in and turnin....

Thanks for the kinds words everyone.

He really was special, being the runt, the sweetest little thing, and the only long-haired kitten in the litter. It wouldn't have been so hard if it had happened a few days earlier, when I knew he wasn't doing well, but the night that he died, he had more energy than he'd ever had, he ate all the dinner I made for him (he was getting separated out and getting his own feedings of canned food mixed with kitten formula) and then sat down and loudly demanded another bowl and nearly ate all of the second bowl too - it was the first night in over a week I didn't go to bed worried about him, and then I woke up and the exact thing that I had just stopped worrying about had happened.
sad.png

His four siblings are doing great, they're all big brutes; they're running the house now.
smile.png

Well, I was outside hard at work on that pen until about 9:15 tonight, when I couldn't see what I was doing anymore and just about drilled a hole in my fingernail with the screwgun.
big_smile.png
It's nearly finished! I don't have any pictures because it was getting so dark outside, but everything's done except for hinging on all the doors. If I have the energy, I'll get up early and finish before I leave in the morning, otherwise it won't take me too long to get it all done quick after I get back. It looks pretty good - my triangle must not be exactly square, because one side mysteriously ended up 2 inches longer than it should be, and one wall didn't quite fit in right, but rather than taking the time to re-cut a new piece from plywood, I just trimmed out the gap in the wall with a scrap hunk of 2x4. It's not perfect, but it will definately hold ducks in, and that's all it has to do.
