Hey everyone,
So one of my roosters started crowing. It only took him 18 weeks but he wanted to take his time. The funny thing is how pathetic his crow is. He gets all puffed up and raises his head all high and then it sounds like this terrible one note howl. Also he only crows when I come down by them. Otherwise he doesn't make a sound. I am STILL waiting to get my first egg though. My I have three 22 week old Buff Orpingtons, two 20 week EEs, three 18 week EEs, and a 18 week Brown Leghorn, but still no eggs from any of them.
I would have thought one of them would be laying by now. Also I have 4 female Coturnix Quail that are 8 weeks old and still now eggs. URGH!! I have a house full of hold-outs. I just really want my hens to start laying so I can start breeding. I have a huge list of people wanting mixed breed eggs/chicks but no one wants the purebred ones.
I don't get it. You would think the purebreds would be on higher demand. I think it is because most of the demand here is farmers that just want a good laying barnyard mix and don't want anything fancy. Who knows.
