Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

SO I will probably ask this question on the meaties subforum.
BUT what type do you all recommend and how long has it taken you to get them up to size?
I will get chicks and raise them up.
Thanks
Carol

Well I spoiled them this morning. It got so cold last night I figured I'd make them some oatmeal today. Before I new it I threw in 3 celery stalks, the leftover tortellini soup, and the last handful of shredded cheese!

The roosters went nuts for it. The hens needed a little push, but then they all swarmed it! Maybe this will get those nagging hens off my back for a while, and they will give me a few more eggs!

She kinda looks like mine, and I had no clue what she was for 2 yrs, till I got on here.. I think yours may be a Partridge rock.
If she has a reddish/chocolate brown color to her, with a double lacing in her feathers, then she may be crossed with a Partridge rock...

I was on the Meaties forum..
NEVER MIND... the cost of raising the birds, then all the work involved to get them to "freezer camp"... WOW..
I cannot afford 18-26 pounds of food PER bird, for 8 weeks, then have to take them to be processed...
I have put sick/injured birds down..
But man.. it takes a certain type of person to be able to process meat birds.

SO WiCc seems you didn't get an answer to your querie. I raised 15 CornX ended up with 12, lost 3. I raised them year before last along with my layers, newbie mistake. They need to be raised seperate. I free ranged mine and were absolutely delishious. Nice yellow fat and loads of meat. Started butchering around 9 weeks and finished at 12. Mostly did it on Sat; found that the most I could do in a day by myself was 4, that was a record. At week 12 they were coming out to look like small turkeys. 2 meals out of half a breast. Hope that helps. Mag oh Mag that looks yummie! You need more people at your table. Amy need latest pics of Cartman jr. I thought about it for a long time and that halloween pic reminded me of him. Sorry!

Acctually have been trying to get rid of the blues. Just need the room for other colors. If interested in some let me know I'll keep them for ya. Still have all variations of the blues. Mike

Chilly Fiish Fry Friday To All!
The hens layed another 7 today like normal, so the warm treat sure didn't hurt anything. i stopped by the feed mill today to pick another 100lbs of whole corn for treats. I like to mix it with some boss and a little dry cat food to create my own scratch feed sorta. I like to keep the protein level up and the added meat in the cat food works great. Just more expensive than buying commercial scratch grains. I just gotta keep em all happy.
Neighbor trying to harvest his last corn field, then the combine broke down. Guys have been out in the cold wind trying to get it fixed all day....kinda feel sorry for him. Much nicer in the house!

I'm taking it a little harder than expected, probably due to the news I got at my last visit. Needless to say, hes a happy, healthy little thing from what they can tell and thats the most important part.

I can still cry if I wanna tho!!!

It's a boy, boy, boy, and girl. Bubbles hatched a litter of 4 puppies, 3 blue merle meaties and a black bantam. Cute little buggers.
