Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

good afternoon, no snow here.. are we supposed to get some?

I have just over 50 eggs racked up and ready to go into the incubator.. I am just waiting to see how many more I will get today..these will be all that I collect from that flock of hens.. I will continue with that barred rock rooster and barred hens for a week or so and then set them free and lock up the Delawares.

I blocked off the back half of the community nest so the chicks are a bit confused as to where they should lay their eggs now..
Annie says they are on strike..LOL

I banded all the new turkeys and set them free. A couple of them fell in love with Tommy right away..

I noticed a pair of guineas in a nest today.. I dont know if I want guinea eggs yet.. but if they come, they come.. I will set them..

the geese are getting more broody everyday.. I suspect one pair is sneaking off to a hidden nest already..

with all this going on, can spring be far away?

did I mention that I did bake Annie an upside down pineapple cake for her B'day? It turned out great.. my first attempt ever.
I have the recipe if anybody wants it..

Snowy Afternoon All.... been a light snowfall since Noon....Almost 2" and still coming down.

Thanks for the recipe Jim. Suzie made apple pie today, but we will definitly give it a try. Tell Annie Happy Birthday from me and Suzie.

Nice peeps H&R, thanks for sharing. FrozenChef that was quite a long haul for you...thinking prolly a tank of gas anyway?

I see Purely Poultry has a new web page and a full page add in the latest Backyard Poultry Magazine...That full page must of cost a few cackle berries.

Tacos tonight...good and spicy with pepperjack cheese.

Stay Safe... ~ bigzio

Hey everyone! I made out at the swap today...we hung around a bit looking for you ODrH...although we did see quite a few young 'uns--no Mom's that looked like you!

I got 2 female regular Zebra finches and a pair of "English Type" that I didnt even know existed! THey look just like the regular ones but twice the size. THe pair I got are fawns. At the last minute I decided to get a female guinea too. Man she is a heavy bird! Everyone is settling in nicely. I was very tempted with the Bobwhites...but since I dont have anything set up for them I didnt buy. Also tempting were the Archangel Pigeons (that was the name I was trying to thing of the other day!) THe same man I talked to at Beaver Dam was there with them. I also sold one of my Royal Palm Turkeys! There was a guy that had a sign that he was looking for a Tom and I had 2. He is coming to get him on Thursday. Anyway--sorry I missed you guys!

When I got home we went and picked our son up in Milw and all went to the domes! Then we all went out for a late lunch at PF Chang's--they even had a GF menu! Then DD25 wanted to go to the Cupcake Factory in Milw so we went there after dropping DS22 off at his place. AND THEY even had GF cupcakes! It was delicious too! So I am a happy (and stuffed) camper tonight. DD25 and her BF took DD19 to Sun Prairie so she could babysit her BF's cousins and then get a ride back to school tomorrow from their parents. It was very odd to actually have all of us doing the same thing together! Odd but nice...

It has been a while!

THe snow is very pretty outside...lots of accidents on the freeway though--we saw 3 today! I hope everyone was OK and that all of us on here made it home without mishap! That is a long way to Wausau FrozenChef! DA--around here we say the Robin has to have snow on his back 3 times...maybe cause we are South of you? Or maybe I have it wrong...there is a rhyme but I cant remember it. Three has worked for us for years around here. In fact we were just discussing it at lunch and my daughter said that last year we saw Robins in February and they had snow 3 times then it was spring. I didnt remember (of course) but she said we didnt have any snow in March so it had to be in Feb that we saw them? No snow in March??? That seems really weird to me! I do remember that it was an early spring but that is ridiculous! I know that I had the salad garden planted and it was up and I had the potatoes in on Good Friday (April 2nd) had to be an early spring! Robins are 2 hours South of us already. (got that from a reliable source)

Well, have a great night everyone and sweet dreams too! Terri O

Hung around for a bit there, but Tyler wasn't in his most "let's hand around" mood so I must have missed ya.

Got home and groomed up the pups for a visit into Waukesha to meet one of the pup's new owners. They had a blast playing for a couple hours and came home pooped. Got their 7 week photos (http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=44136&id=100000244415467&l=3426afa376) which didn't really turn out that great since they were droopy, but cute anyway.

Can't believe the amount of snow on the ground and it's almost March! My chickens went on strike today in protest. Only a couple eggs today.

ok so we discovered that we can fit 35 eggs per 'bator!

stupid lazy things oh well just means I get to hatch more

theres gonna be more chickens than square footage on our land this summer. Man I can't wait till those babies hatch, I love my mixed breeds there so cool looking! one of my hens lays a green egg that looks like the silkie eggs (shape/size wise) probably Annabell, she is all black with a green sheen looks like a silkie but is feathered (silkie/EE) small girl to like the silkie.

anyway congrats on the finds at the swap!

We got about 2" of fluffy stuff here, just enough to aggrivate. It was a very long day yesterday. I started on the bathroom at 5:30 the BFF showed up around 1 and we finished glueing the new lenoleum down at 9 last night. I got up at 4:50 this morning for a call to nature and couldn't go back to sleep. The wheels were turning. Sent the BFF home and told him to sleep in, he deserved it. Told him I'd call when I needed him. There's a lot I can do before I need him. Want to stay off the flooring as long as possible to let the glue dry. I'm amazed at good a job we did. The new floor is level and the lenoleum pattern is straight. I've never cut and layed it before but I have to say I did a d#mn fine job. A lot to do today. Better get to it. Hope you all have a great day!

good morning all, I have been up since 5AM I put off posting because I didn't want to wake any of you up..

I set 2 goose eggs this morning.. 56 chicken yesterday and 61 chicken a week ago.. I hope I get a lot of pullets.. these eggs are from my best egg layers.. LARGE eggs..

if I keep setting eggs like I am, i will have to clean out bator #2 and set it up pretty soon.. I don't know what I will do with all these birds,, if they all hatch..

I put a new wafer in the backup thermostat in the bator that I am planning on using as a hatcher.. It was not the right one, so I am going to have to modify it a bit to make it work.. It holds real steady at 90F.. not quite as high as i want.. A bit of grinding and a bit of solder should do the trick..

I feel really good about how this incubation is going this time..
more confident ? just a feeling..,

DrH, I always enjoyed putting down linoleum.. some day let me tell you about the first time I did it when I was about 15 years old.. all by myself with the help of my 2 younger brothers,, in my mother's kitchen..

what is a BFF?

Waiting on one more battery to charge till go down in the dungeon. Best Friend Forever. BFF! Man does my body hurt after a long winter of inaction.

Jim, stay away from the hatching thread where the lady is using her HAIR DRYER to keep the humidity down...... WTH?????? And she wonders why she is having issues.......

Last kayak class today, and then off to treat my DH for his b-day! We are going to the FVTC Cultural Cuisine event. The Culinary students do all the cooking to help raise money for scholarships. It is so YUMMY!!!!! Good thing you have to walk around a lot to work off all the wonderful food!

Off to do the taxes....... I hope we get a nice chunk of change back.
