Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Good Fish Fry Friday All.... That's a pretty good amount of Maple syrup from 4 trees H&R! I might have to attempt it some spring. I have a outside fish cooker that would prolly work for cooking the sap down. I have 4 maples large enough in the yard that would work. I have alot of maples back in the ridge where a pipeline for gathering sap would be the only way to collect sap. Trying to carry pails would kill a guy first I think. ( me anyway)

I'll have to check the link out later....I have a nice growth of buckthorn here!

Nice looking Bread Terri. Glad to hear it's tasty too! Suzie made a fresh batch of buns with flax seed in today. Tonight a salmon patty or two is gonna get hugged in a couple of those with ho made frys. The Italian sausage and german tato salad and beans sounds good too!

Sure was nice to have waterers this morning that weren't frozen....I could get use to that no problem.

Found some stale saltines in the pantry so I threw them out for the crows to eat.... they didn't even want them....must of been really stale, eh!

Later.... ~ bigzio

thank you,
I don't know what kind they are.. the eggs are from a neighbor.
I will go with the standard time for these.. If they hatch early they will have to jump out of the turning tray.. LOL it wouldn't be the first time.

I took the sticky buns out of the oven.. the caramel is quite black
I thought the baking directions seemed odd, but I followed them anyway.. It said to pu the rols into a cold oven and then start it up at 400F, after 15 minutes lower the heat to 350F for 20 minutes and then lower the heat to 325F for 10 minutes.

I never heard of putting bread into a cold oven.. that is the last time I will follow those directions.. every bakery I ever worked at, we put all breads into pre-warmed 375F ovens..

the chickens enjoyed their treat, anyhow..

Annie just brought in the first duck egg. only drawback , it is from the new duck who is not with any other ducks, so it cannot be fertile..

I saw a pair of Toulouse sneaking behind the garage this morning.. not the first time they did this.. I think they might have a nest in the lean-to at the rear of the garage.. I will have to do some snooping..

Ok, so I will let them sit until tonight and then in they go. I have three thermometers and a hydro in there. Two say 101 and one says 103( but it's closer to the element) I'll try to get the temp down before I put them in. Oh and my DH bought me a turner, so I'm good to go. Humidity is at 50% so I will get that closer to 40 before they go in. I'm so excited. Why is it that I feel like a mother expecting?
I want to say I'm sorry and Thanks. Hope that covers it for the next 21 days. Happy hatching everyone!

and awaaaay we go !!! I am a strong proponant of using only ONE thermometer.. pick one and trust it.. more than one only contributes to doubt and second guessing..

When we boiled down the sap we found that using a stainless steel pail with a open top worked the best. We did try our turkey fryer but it won't hold the heat because it is aluminum(sp) and we will use a stainless milk pail but that has a smaller opening on top. This one is used to get sap heating and then poured into the open top pail as the sap cooks down-that way we keep it boiling and aren't adding cold into it.

I was just saying that to DH. Only thing is I don't trust the digital to give me accurate temps but it has the hyd on it too. The other two are those mercury thermometer you get with the incubator and turner. They both are reading the same temp. I'll probably take one out and just use the digital for the humidity.

H&R, we'll be helping our neighbor with sugaring this year. Neither of us have done it, should be interesting.

Few things better than pure maple syrup. The sap straight up is pretty good too. Good luck with yours.

The Wyandotte broody is broken - she laid an egg yesterday! The Ancona roo musta knocked some sense into her. Now down to one setting...if she holds out I'll give her some to hatch when it gets warmer. How long will an unsatisfied broody last?? She's been like this for at least a month.
