Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Hey everyone! Sorry I have been abscent for a while. Hubby and I have been researching horses etc. We have bought 2 awesome geldings and will pick them up in April as soon as we can get some posts in the ground and run some fencing. This will be my second horse and I cannot wait! Now I dont have to worry about paying someone to board them and we can see them everyday!

There names are Cal and Gus. They are both 12 yrs old. We got them from a breeder up in northern MN.

Gus is a Sorrel Appendix QH. He is 15.3h and is a well trained ranch/trail horse.

Cal is a palomino and is 14.3h and is a well trained trail horse.

We will use them for trail riding and exploring a bunch of places we havent been around here yet.

Anyway, other than that, my big white rooster attacked me again today. as soon as I turned my back to fix a roosting bar, he jumped up an pecked my thigh. 3rd time and he isnt even a year old yet. Needless to say, he is now in the freezer. We have a 3 strike rule around here, and he struck out.

the loops are for gathering the blood, I like the plastic because I can toss them after each batch of tests, per-person, farm, or with me after the day. yes they teach you, in fact you have to read the test right before they 'pass' you, in the past they have given you directions to make one, if they don't I still have my directions. Its a very easy thing to do, its the price of the antigan that kills you, and its dated, last year my bottle was only good for 8 months

the new one I have is good till july 2012, so it does even out

finall have a few minutes to myself.. went with my brother and picked up a hospital bed for mom/(Me).. It has nice high siderails. Now she will just have to get run over by the train.. LOL

31 chicks in two brooders.. one more in the hatcher and a couple more still working to escape from their eggshell prisons..

I will have to go out this week and clean a couple of the brooder pens in the chicken coop. next weekend another batch is due to hatch..

Yes, I get eggs from "your Dave". I had satisfactory results with my prior ones from him.. late winter eggs are not always the best for fertilization.. You have to listen to what the roosters are saying.. If there is a lot of bragging going on,that is when to collect eggs..

I always set way too many eggs in the first place,, so if I get only 75% hatch, I still have way too many chicks.. LOL

Annie found a hidden goose egg today in the haystack..Don't know when it was layed.. I will set it anyway..

pretty soon I had better start writing these sets down.. My memory is not that great anymore.. right now I have about 10 different due dates..+/-

Have fun with the horses !!! Just so you know they are as addicting as chickens. After getting our last horse (6 horses & 3 donkies) hubby said no more !!
Then he brought home chickens for himself........ The rest is history !!!! Horses & Chickens are just like potato chips !!!

Thanks FrenchToast!
I know they are addicting. I just cant wait! Hubby and I are already planning a couple trips! We may even do one of those horse riding vacations where you can bring your own horse.

We will see how time and money goes. But I would LOVE to do that!!!

I cant wait until we get them home and can get some better pics of them!

Well if all goes well these eggs are heading to a 'bator in the next day or so!!

The two Andalusians (a black and a white/splash) are doing well here at the house and the chicks are at the farm with Joan my barn owner, she sooo
wanted to have them to watch and feed!
So I have a wheaten Ameracauna and a Welsummer growing up!

this hatch is about over.. I will give the late comers until tomorrow and then pull the plug..

just set 60 buckeyes and one goose and one turkey today..

I think the guinea roosters are eating the chickens' eggs.. will have to separate them, soon.. I need about 6 more breeding pens..
I wish it was warmer and dryer outside, I would be putting some together..

it is 10 PM already,,,, feels like 9.. LOL

remember our motto :
If you say it wrong enough , long enough, people will believe it as fact..

Loved the time change for going to bed but not for getting up. It'an odds and ends day today along with the first coat of mud going on the drywall. Need to do a complete clean out of the coop too. Enjoy the warming weather!

dose anyone give crickets to there chicks, I do once and awhile, went to the pet store for a new heat emitter, then remembered my booted that i didn't think would hatch. bought some crickets. thought i bought the small ones. got home and had the big ones. tossed one in, they ignored it, 5 min latter someone found it. what a racket in the brooder, fun to watch too. the more often I put one in the faster they find it, runing around and chasing the leader
