Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

BBP- I wish I had a hen to go with those boys, I bet they would have nice babies..

Speaking of chickens. I found this on the Janesville CL (I posted it on the IL thread too) but wanted to post it here for any who are interested.

I know 100 is OK, but I want to fine tune it a little better. I do not want the chicks coming a day and a half early.. as long as I have this expensive equipment, it should hold a steady and accurate temp..If it can hold at 100 for 3 weeks, it should also hold at 99....... and that is what I intend it to do..

there, it just dropped to 99 as we speak, now watch it keep dropping..LOL these solid state therms are good once you get them set, but they are hard to tune in initially..

I am not in a fast mode today.. I have not even let the birds loose or fed them yet.. they have feed left over from yesterday.

I showered and shaved and it isn't even saturday.. we have the social workers or nurses coming today for Ken's annual inspection.. we never know what he is going to say.. He BS's so much, I hope these new people catch on to him.. He likes to tell them that Annie beats him with a baseball bat and locks him in the closet..

I have very little tolerance for these social workers. I told Annie that if they ever are dumb enough to believe him, they might as well have an empty seat in their car, because he is going along immediately.. He was kicked out of 4 nursing homes before we got him here.. Not an easy guy to get along with..eh?

It is nice that it is warming up outside, but now we have the muddy season to contend with.. that means dirty eggs,, I want to clean the coops, at least the main one.. the snow is too deep to get to the back coop with the tractor..

I want to band all the new flock of layers and turn them into the free range mode.
maybe this afternoon..

Carol- I dont know if he will be doing it again, but my neighbor has ( and was selling last year) Mille Fleur Duccle with beards, muffs and boots. Really cute little buggars. they are trying to sell their farm and get rid of some. If you are interseted, I will let you know when sign is back up. Had it up all last summer. Not into bantams right now otherwise i would have snatched some up!

i just received an email address listing 3 pages of swaps,, I cannot forward to here, but if anybody wants it I can send it off group..

i have about a dozen americana chicks hatched on Mar 12., 2011
they look to be gray and white.. came from light blue eggs.. rooster was/is a splash.. PM me if interested.. I can also post pictures off group.. still cannot do stuff like that on group with my antique equipment..

it is running good so far this week and your right about the leaf buds, once we start seeing the buds start we are done. We collected 20 gals yesterday and I will be heading out to check them now so if buckets are filling I can change them out.

I don't know why they died.. and don't change your hatching habits because of anything I say.. I do a lot of 'suposin'" ..
I might say one thing and next week change my mind..

I always ave chicks die late in the game.. that is what I am trying to overcome..

If your bator swings from 80 to 110 and you get good hatches, stay with it..

i think I got the temp as close as it is going to be.. with the room door closed it is 100F, with the door open it is 99F. the basement temp is just above 60F I am guessing.. with the dozen or so thermometers I have, I suppose I could check it out, eh? LOL I know that with 2 bators going, with the room door closed, the room gets between 80 and 85..

Hi all. Funny that so many of you wanted or looked at my pair at the swap. Good thing I got them before they were gone.

They are exactly what I wanted too. FM- I'm planning on keeping them together to get some eggs. Now the man said that the hen was a early winter hatch so she hasn't layed yet, but should soon. When she does I'll be hatching some of her eggs. I'm also planning on putting the roo with my splash and another black girl. The blk girl had a white father but a blk mom, so she's on the gray side. Hoping to get some blues and mottled out of those combos. When I do, I'll bring you some chicks. I'll keep you posted. WCc- You are evil. I have a thing for blondes. Showed DH and he laughed, asked me how I was going to feed it? I already have 4 horses and a pony, so my hay bill is 2000 for a year, and that doesn't include everything else they need all year, vet, dewormer, tack, ect... Who said horses and chickens are like potato chips? That is so true. If we had more land I would have more horses too. Good thing we don't.

Candled my eggs last night. 8 out of 31 weren't developing. 6 of those are shipped ones. I'm down to my orginal 6 on the ML. Hopefully they hatch. That's what I want more than anything. Well I'm off to do homework. Later Tator

Candled my lavender Ameraucana eggies today, 2 bloodrings, 2 clears, 1 quitter, 19 looking good so far and developing!

Hope I get a decent hatch.

Fracture season has begun already. Some radiographs of 3 from this week for grins: http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=51506&id=100000244415467&l=a7d90d81e6 Been a busy week between 3 paralyzed back dogs, all the fractures, and the other surgeon being off for the week. Should calm down a bit this week.

Can I just say I'm tickled with how my recent batch of silkies are developing? Their "coats" are gorgeous!

Looking forward to the weekend and meeting up with chickenfolk for the swap.
