that is not completely correct, if your friend has a flock of birds you need to find out if they have been tested, they might be a WI certified flock, then you do not need to test, it all ready done, all you need is a copy of the Wi certified flock number, your done. if they haven't been tested you need to talk to the flock owner and see if they want the whole flock tested (not necessary) or just the birds you want to show, whole flock WI certified flock good for a year, or Individual test which is good for 90 days, the price for it depends on the tester, I charge $1 a bird, some add gas and/or a flat fee. I don't. there is no application, just a copy of the results, if individual you need to have the bird marked (i.e. numbered, tagged, cable tied), whole flock not nessary, if whole flock the state will send the flock owner a flock number. you will need copies to give the fair superintendent/swap keeper, you keep the original (flock owner), your tester will also have a copy, they also send a copy of the test to the state. also you need a premise ID for showing in the state of WI, the number is for where the birds are kept, not your house
I'm a tester and have been testing for 6 years, I'm also the Winnebago Country Fair Superintendent for Poultry
also you do not need a number on a bird for showing, that is up to you , its a good idea, but not necessary
Cool! Thanks BCC for the clarification! My tester gave me a copy of the Wisconsin Tested Flock Enrollement Application and said that the state would send me a document (that must be the flock number from the state). He also stated that I need to take that with me to shows and swaps and to had out copies to any person I sell birds to and I need to get their name, address and what they bought and turn in that info into the State within 10 days of the sale.
It is interesting that here in WI that a numbered leg band is not needed for show. When I showed in CA for years, if a bird was not numbered, they were not allowed to show. You have to indicate the leg band number on the show application. The birds could have a numbered wing band and still be admitted.
