Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Morning everyone, got the day off- sort of- working on paperwork and such at home! Our foster Irish Setter will be picked up today to start her travels home! We are happy about that-she didn't fit in with our dogs and so that made it harder
sad.png
She is being adopted by a couple from TX. So I have to get her paperwork ready!

On day 18 for our hatch- have 9 that made the cut this am so we will see how many hatch out this time- hopefully more than 1! But our 1 chick is liking the new buddies so that is great!

Have a good one!

I agree, when you go MIA for even a day you have lots of catching up to do !! I've been gone for over 2 days, Geezz !! Don't know where to start. I don't comment to much because I don't know who wrote what or ?????? And if I remember what was wrote I don't remember who wrote it !!

Yesterday must have been a good day for Roosters to be in the attack mode. Hubby came in and asked if there was a mark on his forehead, yep I said and asked what that was from. He said the polish rooster (Slick) jumped up and attacked him and if he did that one more time it would be the last !!
Then later in the day I went to feed and water my silkie/cochin crosses. In with them is a kind bigger guy that I think is out of a turken egg. Reason I am not sure is when I bought a pair of turkens from a guy he also gave me some eggs to hatch. This chicken is beautiful and has feather coloring like his siblings I've hatched that are turken. But he is fully feathered !!!
Anyway, when I opened the pen door this Roo jumped up three times and attacked my face. They are in a pen about hip high so it wasn't quite the jump that the polish had to make.
I was so surprised, HOLY POOP can they pack a punch !!! So after I closed the door I gathered my witts and proceeded to open it prepared for a ragging bull !! Grabbed him by the legs and held and petted him. He was fine !!
I totally expected my face to be dripping with blood only later to find a scratch on my chin. Thank goodness I had my glasses on hey.

My guineas have started to lay in the nest boxes so I have been moving them to a bigger box hubby made and put chips and hay in. Hoping to encourage them to lay in there then set on them.
Any advice in that area.
I figured out which duck was laying which egg. I get about 8 eggs a day now. One is greenish so that is the Rouen and the rest are from my runners. Sure wish we didn't have the Rouen and mallard drake in there so they would be pure. Guess we'll need more pens and a girl for the mallard !! When does it end.

Hey Jim, you said Suzie up in Crandon??? I'm Sandi up near Crandon. I hate to say Crandon because it has a bad Rep but I'm not a born & raised Crandonitte. I"m actually in the town of Nashville just outside of Jennings. In between Pelican Lake and Crandon.

So anyway we survived he storm. Alot of mud but at least it melted alot of the snow we still had.
I got kicked out of my recliner and had to watch Brothers & Sisters in the other room because one of our Great Pyreneese (I can never spell that word) took over my chair. He hates thunder & lightening and gunfire !! We don't know why but if you don't let him in he will claw down the house to come in. Never mind the huge insulated beautiful house hubby built him.
He is so cute.
love.gif
He overflows the whole chair and lays there like he owns the place !! Hey, I don't even own the place yet !!!!!

BCC- did you get the strong winds??
WOW...
Well the chicks I brought back from the barn are not greatly happy, I need to get them into the 30 gallon tank.. which is in the back of my truck, full of water from all the rain..
Good news.. it will be a tiny bit easier to clean out.. just POUR!!.. then clean again, then disinfect.
I think I was MacGuiver in a previous life...
I forgot a small chick waterer at the barn so needed one for the chicks...
I spied a beta bowl that has a scalloped edge
betabowl.jpg

I put water in it, put it on a plastic lid from a take out bowl, but it ON the take out bowl.. and viola...a waterer that will release water via gravity...
Its amazing what you can find around your house.

I made some more potato and chicken soup last night and today. I put in too many potatoes but it turned out just fine.. a chicken broth base, and threw in a
chicken tuscany can of soup to have more liquid, carrots, celery, onion, minced garlic, onion salt, pepper, italian spices, oregano, garlic powder...
This morning I baked up some chicken, added a cup and a half of milk and half n half, and about a cup + of a three cheese blend.
Shredded the chicken and added that.... YUMMM YUMMM

Sandi in Crandon.. I will try to rememer that.. anyhow it is the thought that counts. eh? My best friend was from Crandon. It was a wild place to be from.. He also lived in Nashville.. Still has lots of relatives in both..

DrH, I know it is something to do with the throw out bearing.. I am just hopig the yoke slipped or a spring broke.. Otherwise I have to split the tractor.. I had to split it 5 years ago when I got it, to repair the PTO clutch.. something I don't look forward to..

If I have to go into it again, I will replace the PTO pump this time also.. a nice $360.oo item..

Unless I can get somebody to help me this time,
I am thinking that I will just let somebody come and pick it up and pay them to do it..

It also needs a valve job.. the brakes are not up to snuff either..

I could prolly buy a different tractor for what this would all cost.

If I didn't feel so doggy today, I would do something outside.. I hate being under the weather..

WOW...

yes, if i didn't have my grill tied up it would have been in the front window. the talk is of a tornado a mile or so down the street. the scariest part is the quite before the storm with all the lightning,
hide.gif
all 3 of the kids hide in the basement. the weirdest par is the coop that was displaced is one of the calf hutches, they can handle a lot of wind, but the chickens, waterer, and feeder never moved, it was like someone just lifted it up.

Just wanted to share with you. The now 2 or so week olds, I got from "MustLoveHens" . They are doing very well and growing very quickly. Thanks MLH.

my home made brooder box. an unused feed cart with wheels removed, placed on a garden cart, so when they are ready I just wheel them out to the coop, the sloped ends make it easy to clean.

Best Wishes RH.

Windy Afternoon All... yep, I had to catch up on the reading too. During the bad weather I had to unplug the puter to save the modem from lightning. Nothing damaging here....kinda went on both sides of us here...thank goodness.

Nice peeps cp...good luck with the java project!

Good luck with the water pumping Doc....hope you win the battle! Nice save with the bator temps. Wish I had a generator for times like that. We were lucky the power didn't quit for a change. I would of had to do the same for the peeps.

Nice to hear the peeps are all spoken for Jim. Now you'll have free space for the next hatch.

Put the turkey tent up this morning....hope it doesn't blow away!

Later.... ~ bigzio

the neighbors from 5 miles N of us showed up a while ago.. they are out of electric power.. 4500 homes south of Merrill are out..
we fed them breakfast and coffee..

highlines are down on top of some houses that are half down SW of Merrill..

B & B brought me 4 dozen eggs to hatch.. I had to do some doe si doe"ing, but I made them fit.. bator #`1 is officially full to the max.. I had to put some eggs into the hatcher a couple of days earlier than they were scheduled, but that shouldn't matter too much..

None of the 7 turkey eggs hatched.. I candled,, all clears.. come on tommys.. there are four of you out there.. don't push your luck..

I might just quit with the turkeys after this year.. just keep Tommy and one hen for him..

I would get rid of Tommy too, If Ken wasn't so attached.

Same story with the Toulouse geese, too..

Oh, is it windy outside? i have not been out yet..

All of the last hatch is gone.. I asked Brian to save more Americauna eggs for me.. I asked what he had for colors. He said what I figured he would,,"what do they look like to you?"

finally he said that he has a blue splash rooster and black and blue and white hens.. (not black&blue white hens) LOL

Hey all! We were really fortunate here to get away with no storm at all. There was a little rain and last night it got windy but nothing even close to what you guys were dealing with.

Like Terri said, I went to pick up eggs this morning! Stopped at Hurley's work, first, and unfortunately she was in surgery so we couldn't say hi (my three year old son came with me). But she gave me a dozen gorgeous eggs! Lovely speckley Marans and some gorgeous blues...even an olive! The kids are gonna love these.

Then we went to meet Terri--she's fantastic, and she gave me six...oh, no, wait! She gave me TWO DOZEN lovely 'backyard specials'. What am I gonna do with all of these when they hatch??

She also thought my shoes were weird (everyone does):

and we got to meet her lovely dog.

Now I'm off to wash eggs, and monitor the incubator temp and humidity before I put the eggs in there. The kids are going to love these! I've got an outlet converter in my car I can drive the whole thing over to the school on Wednesday without having to worry about drops in temperature or humidity, and the teacher doesn't have to worry about setting everything up. Heck, I'm so excited! I'm going to make a little tutorial video before I drop the whole kit'n'kaboodle off over there, too, for Cream City Hens' 'Hatch to Henhouse' page on the website.

It was awesome to meet you, Terri!!
