Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Bizzy day here at Lazy Acres Chicken Retirement Home. DH and I started to work on a chicken tractor but just ran out of time. The plan was to get it up and put the quail in it. But we ran out if time so I played musical chickens. Lavinia, Emma, and Violet got new digs. They are now off the three season porch and in a large dog crate with an ex pen attachment. They are now in our three sided shed/garage so the have more room and dirt to play in!
The Aseel and TSC chicks now have a new "group" name-The Fly Boys. We started to call them this since they are all roosters and they kept flying out of their brooder and into the little Prodection Reds brooder to steal their food. The TSC unkowns (that I think are some form a ranging meat bird) who I call "chickzilla's", were the ring leaders, leading the raiding and pillaging party. *sigh*
They are now in a covered ex pen that is next to the bantam hens in the shed. They had a ball! Out of the brooder and into a nice little pen with so much more room! We had many mock fights and a lot of playing! We have a ceramic heat lamp set up in case they get cold but they have been off a light for three days and getting really hot in the house. So we'll see how they go and adjust to what they need.
The quail are going on the three season porch for a few days until I can get their little enclosure built.

Then as if that was not enough, the Dominigues that were due to hatch tomorrow started today! I have three little chicks and one pipping. We'll se how many more hatch. The bantam eggs have yet to do anything, but they are due tomorrow.

Now I've got to go check the hens and the Fly Boys and take the dogs out before the storm starts.
Have a safe night !

Hi all! So much to catch up on but I am very tired...cant comment too much. Raiquee...I use a product called Nature's Miracle. Works great on cat pee smells...I seem to encounter that a bit too frequently in my house...all the babies are adorable! I cant wait for mine to hatch the day before Easter. I have to get that broody down with hers and get a pic to enter in the broody part of the contest. I dont even know how many she hatched yet, but they sure make a load of racket up there in the ceiling!
It is good to be back reading about your days everyone! I missed it this weekend. But now I must sleep! Good night/sleep tight/no rain at all here tonight! Terri O

Busy weekend, got back this afternoon from the dog show. Mr. Charlie showed well, took reserve winners today, got dumped yesterday. Pleased with his progress (he needs more time, coat, and roadwork to build muscle, so I was pleased with his showing...we were there for training, mostly.)

Had a good afternoon with the boys outside enjoying the sunshine. One of the roosters did not have such a great day. The chickens were out and about having a grand time scratching up bugs. The roosters are getting pretty stud-y and are getting hard on the hens, so I had planned to place one to a new home and keep the other while my new rooster from this season matures. Well, the "was going to be a keeper" rooster committed the cardinal sin of challenging my 2 year old (who was playing with the water spigot, not doing anything with the chickens). That rooster will taste good by tomorrow, crock pot's fired up and he's in it with some garlic, onions for a nice slow roast. You jump my kid, you're dinner. The end. Too bad, too, he was my favorite rooster color/pattern-wise. Ah, well. His successor (a gorgeous cuckoo splash) is maturing and will take over the ladies in the near future.

Better sign off, the weather is getting nasty out there.

I just got a report from Annie that the tornado completely destroyed the home of a couple who used to live on the first home/farm down our road.. His brother still lives just 1/2 mile to the other side of us.. and I frequently meet one of his other brothers at the restaurant..

I just spent awhile on the incubating threads.. relieved to find that not everybody over there is an idiot..

for pretty sure now that the goose is hiding a nest.. she shows up each morning but disappears so quickly that I have not caught her going in any direction.. maybe tomorrow I will sit on a lawn chair and just watch.. waste the whole day if I have to..

Good morning all. Sincerely hope everyone fared well with the storm and didn't suffer any injuries or damage.

Sounds like everyones hatches went/are going well. As a chickenless person I'm more than just a little envious of you all at the moment!

Hurley, what kind of dog were you showing?

Just put DH on plane to Boston, he'll be gone for nine days. After my trip to hospital last Tuesday/Wednesday decided the time has come to quit smoking and it's best to do this while no one else is present, it will be ugly I'm sure. Have the patches, picking up some lozenges at Drs suggestion. Got out the knitting needles and patterns, bought some yarn, figured I might as well to put all the jittery energy to work making warm stuff, I"m sure I'll use it up there! I guess I'm as ready to go through several days of sheer he!! as I can be.

Every time I've tried to quit I've spent the first 5 days or so in tears in constant frustration and given up (except one time when I acutally quit for 2+ years... started again when divorcing). This time I just have to suffer through it... the trip to ER scared me enough! Besides I'll save a ton of money which I can spend on... let's see... more fencing for chickens!

Hope everyone has a great day!

The evening turned into an eventful one here. Around 9:30 the oldest DS managed to slice his palm on some glass...... so a quick trip to the ER (and NOT the local one) where he was stitched up and good to go by 11. Poor kid keeps having SOMETHING go on with that right hand of his...... he is now the proud owner of 7 stitches and a bandaged mitt. He is trying to 'out stitch' his dad I think......

Off to Fleet this morning to get some of that Vet wrap. Gotta love that stuff!

Catch you all later!

One of my 5 week old cockerels was trying to crow this morning. They are in the house and I woke up to it. Took a while to figure out what the noise was. I would rank it as one of the dumbest noises I've ever heard come out of any animal.

Good Morning Everyone! Hope everyone made it thru the storms OK! 5 tornado's geez. dk1 YOU CAN DO IT!!!! ODrH sounds like your making progress with your dog. Too bad about the roo but fully understand. TO think those chicks need some help getting down. MLH good luck on the hatch! Jim hope that "BUG" doesn't get you down too much. Sounds like a throw out bearing on the tractor. Good one on the aerial shots for bl4. otonoh sounds like your all set for birds, hope things are going ok in the bator. I'll know more on Thurs. Woke up to a river running through the yard was expecting it. Going out to dig a short ditch to the hwy ditch for faster draining. The yard is about 60% under water. Heading to TSC and get another elec sump. Have been using the gas pump to supplement the elec but it's a pain too small a gas tank. Glad I got all the bathroom crap cleaned up before this hit. Gonna have some B'fast before getting to it. Have a good one!

I was thinking more like 60! No one picked eggs all weekend and my girls like to guard them all day so I am sure they are "started." Dont really want to sell/give away eating eggs with little embryos in them ya know? Maybe I will set more broodies....man I am going to have to sell some birds! Maybe keep all the new ones and get rid of the others in the fall?
OK--gotta rin---have a fantastic day! Terri O
