Bizzy day here at Lazy Acres Chicken Retirement Home. DH and I started to work on a chicken tractor but just ran out of time. The plan was to get it up and put the quail in it. But we ran out if time so I played musical chickens. Lavinia, Emma, and Violet got new digs. They are now off the three season porch and in a large dog crate with an ex pen attachment. They are now in our three sided shed/garage so the have more room and dirt to play in!
The Aseel and TSC chicks now have a new "group" name-The Fly Boys. We started to call them this since they are all roosters and they kept flying out of their brooder and into the little Prodection Reds brooder to steal their food. The TSC unkowns (that I think are some form a ranging meat bird) who I call "chickzilla's", were the ring leaders, leading the raiding and pillaging party. *sigh*
They are now in a covered ex pen that is next to the bantam hens in the shed. They had a ball! Out of the brooder and into a nice little pen with so much more room! We had many mock fights and a lot of playing! We have a ceramic heat lamp set up in case they get cold but they have been off a light for three days and getting really hot in the house. So we'll see how they go and adjust to what they need.
The quail are going on the three season porch for a few days until I can get their little enclosure built.
Then as if that was not enough, the Dominigues that were due to hatch tomorrow started today! I have three little chicks and one pipping. We'll se how many more hatch. The bantam eggs have yet to do anything, but they are due tomorrow.
Now I've got to go check the hens and the Fly Boys and take the dogs out before the storm starts.
Have a safe night !
