Glad to hear your not as bad as first thought TO! But still sounds very painfull! There might be a chance of winning that contest as long as L cut my head off in the pic! Was just standing at the back door wondering if he would stand on my shoulder.

Now that would be a pic! Him on my shoulder crowing. You just know I'm gonna have to try. He was eyeballing my shoulder while on my leg think he just might go for it. Was thinking that one good thing about all the water was that all the chickens washed their feet!

20 Silkie mixes hatched out of 25 (23 made it to lock down) I hate the last eggs, it seems that they never hatch

I had the worse migraine ever last night, I was so sick with it??? had to get an Imitrex shot from the ER nothing here was ever going to help. That stuff is wierd, I tasted and smelled, is it menthal they put in those ice patch headache things? and it had this COOLING affect??? weird stuff I'm telling you. and yes, my migraine and nausua went away. migraine meet Imitrex! lol still got some sensetivity today though, I can feel it in there deciding if it wants to come back or not.

got 3 out of 32 so far hatched from other 'bator. their day 21 is tonight.

gonna go take some ibu, see if I can stop this headache before it becomes the migraine from h..e.. double hockey sticks

ps the whole CL thing, it wasn't the same type scam as sweetfolly was talking about. I was the one where you call about it, they answer your questions till you decide that you want to see it and BAM you get a FOOLED you! LMAO at you! lol lol lol!

Well, the Call eggs hadn't made much progress this morning - they had BOTH made a second pip about a half-inch away from the first one, so I figured I'd carfeully open them up a little just to see what was going on...because we all know I'm a habitual "helper" when it comes to hatching babies!

Both babies were a little bit shrink-wraped, which is what I figured. I have the humidity so high that the walls of the 'bator are dripping with condensation, but these darn Calls were still stuck. One's about ready to come all the way out, so I took the whole top off of that shell. The other one still has lots of blood vessels in the membrane, so I only took a bit of shell off of that one and left it alone.

They're BOTH Blue Pied/Magpies. Just have to wait for them to hatch and fluff out to see the pattern!

Well guys, epic fail on the incubator thing. I started it on Monday, early afternoon, let it run and regulate, and it was doing great so I put the eggs in late Monday night. From then until now it's been keeping steady and constant on temp and humidity (I was checking it every half hour or so) and I started getting everything ready to go to the school this morning, so didn't check it for an hour or so. When I went into the closet to unplug and move the whole shebang to the car...the temp had shot up to 105*! I have no idea what happened! Everything was going so well, nothing changed around the incubator at all. It's been sitting in the same spot. I'm assuming all of the embryos have overheated and died? I called the school and told the teacher what happened, she said that if I didn't think they were going to hatch, we'd just skip it. I'm not disappointing the kids at all because it was a surprise that I was coming, so that's good at least. I've pulled the temp down by running a fan into the closet, it's back down to 101*, and I think I'm going to just keep running it until I can candle next Monday, but I'm assuming all is lost. I'm going to be keeping an even closer eye on the thing, now.

I'm really disappointed.

TO glad you are not as banged up as I had pictured from your first description.. still hurts, though..EH? I once had a horse kick the one I was riding. with both hind feet, one foot landed on each side of my leg and pinned my jeans to my horse, I was not touched, but I was wide awake after that !! LOL

I finished the plucker today.. the wheels work even better than I had hoped for..

TO, maybe I should take some pictures of these roosters.. ??

they are going to the freezer if I can't re-home them..

I just had a brainstorm.. I think i will make a box where I can put individual chickens into to take their picture.. It is so hard to get them to pose when they are in a group or running around the yard.. yeah, that's the ticket..

You might be OK yet, you have to heat the eggs pretty well through.. go ahead as you planned.. incubation temp is 99.5F that has not changed in my over 40 years of hatching.. that is all that I am going to say about temp..

For my last hatch the incubator suddenly spiked to 106 for who knows how long (last checked 6 hours previously). Had a pretty good hatch in spite of it, and from shipped eggs. Don't give up yet.

Evening All... It was a great sunrise Doc.... spent 8 1/2 hours in the tent today. Passed on a group of 4 jakes...had 2 nice toms with a group of hens right on the edge of being close enough to shoot. Decided to let them walk, just a tad to far. I'll be back at it in the morning. Glad the water is backing off for you.

Jim it's good to hear you finished the plucker. You should go ahead and break er in. I know you need the chicken in the freezer!

I always wait til the new peeps are almost the same size as the adults before mixing them. The adults can give the small newbies a real whippen. Provide areas for the small ones to get away when they need to otherwise.

Collected 3 eggs today from the 7 lt brahmas that are 6 years old....not bad for old women, eh! We always keep those for our use in case there is a bloody one....only had one like that this spring so far. Again not bad for old women, eh!

Peeps are really doing great. Not a single pasty butt in the bunch. I liked that...bet they did too!

Buck Creek Chickens, they're only on day three.

jvls1942, I use a wine crate to take pictures of mine. Rustic looking, too. And I thought that for a still air the temp should be higher? For a forced air, cooler?

Hurley, thanks for the encouragement. I'm going to be so, so bummed if all of these died. I think I'll see how candling goes, then decide whether or not to take it down to the elementary school. If anything else, I can take video of the hatch to show them, and take the chicks themselves on the farm day I'm going in on.
