Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Good Morning All,
Dr Ha Ha... fingers crossed for a better hatch... at least you have SOME...

Jim, lets hope for calm guineas vs a stressed turkey!...
So.. do you charge to hatch folks eggs? Just wondering..

I have a serious question about NPIP testing... when we were at the Beaver Dam swap.. there was a person with a BOATLOAD of chicks.
Various ages, and sizes, and several different species...
There could be NO WAY he had ALL of them tested, his mini van was stacked from floor to ceiling with chick carriers. He never offered paperwork on them
and people were buying them as if they were going out of style.
Do Chicks need to be tested?
I just thought it ODD that he had sooo many, and really there could be no way he had ALL of them tested...

We got one big load delivered to the new house, I then had to drive past Jefferson to go look at a horse for my client.. I like him, a nice older horse that
would be perfect for his family.

I am tired,... off to bed with me!

Thanks
Carol

I think you ran into Paul K. he gets all his stock comes from hatcheries so they are tested, he has no other stock. its called WI associated flock (he could be the equivalent NPIP) , no paperwork needed. as for testing chicks, you can't test them till 4 month so what you need to have is NPIP or a WI certified flock before you hatch then the chicks hatched are included in the test by the way of the parents, so if your not certified you are not supposed to sell chicks. there are 4 types NPIP, WI certified, WI associate or the 90 day test, each has it place, WI certified and NPIP are the same thing, you pay for the NPIP rating it was $80 but that my have gone up, I will find out next week

does that make sense

good morning all, woke up to a surprise hatch this morning.. I was going to toss all the eggs from the hatcher.. there is a baby muscovy staring back at me.. I forgot there was a duck egg in there.. LOL I haven't pinned down exactly how many days muscovy take to hatch..

My youngest daughter is coming to sit with Grandma today.. so I am free to do something..

I am going to set these 120 eggs first, then clean up and head to town..

Carol, Yes, I charge for hatching eggs.. Not for some people, though.
like close friends and neighbors.. We all do favors back and forth between us.. I have good neighbors..

I love some of my neighbors others not so much. Their beyond cruel to animals! Don't get me started. It's snowing now

Beeker is just about out, the shell is almost split in half. otonoh you can change the name but for now it's Beeker. EBEE BEE BEE! Like on Sesame Street. Jim that's a cool surprise! Nice to have a sitter once in awhile eh? Keep forgetting to ask you if have any butchered chickens to sell? Or chickens to butcher to sell. Running short here. PM me if you do. otonoh was thinking Fri. that you should bring a small box with a towel in it. A twelver of Point would be well recieved and given a good home but you really don't have to do that! I'll dig through my deer hunting stuff to look for pocket heaters but for an hours drive they would be fine without. Do you have chick feed? Water? Worry Worry Worry! Would like to eat something and take a nap but.... Thanks WCc! ODrH congrats on the hatch of the chicken relatives!

Oh my goodness, I was sick for ONE DAY and there are 6 pages to read and catch up with you guys!

Monday night just before bed I got a terrible headache - like a sinus pressure headache, but no congestion...? My head was pounding, so I went to bed early...only to wake up yesterday morning with a fever and my entire head still in pain. I felt nauseous all day and barely ate anything...got out of bed TWICE all day, and slept for the vast majority of the day. And I woke up in the wee hours of this morning feeling perfectly fine, with no fever.

Candled all the eggs again after I woke up, and pulled 2 more quitters. They've been dead for awhile (probably something to do with the temperature fiasco), but they were so close to hatching (they were due this weekend, and I really couldn't see ANYTHING in those eggs!) that they had to decompose and break down in there for a few days before I could tell.

But, I finally have ONE Dutch Hookbill egg developing! It's about time! And after I pulled all the non-viable Hookbill eggs from the 'bator, I had room to set a few more Calls and Columbian Cochins.

Oh - and the quail started laying eggs yesterday!

Will actually WOKE ME UP while I was sick to show off the 3 eggs he collected.

He wants to put them in the 'bator NOW. I had to explain to him that it's probably not a good idea to mix the quail and Cochin eggs in the 'bator. Maybe I'll dig out the crappy old LG 'bator that someone gave me last year and let him play with it.

And finally, here's that picture of the latest Call duckling!

Oh - and it's SNOWING right now in Baraboo. And it's actually sticking to the ground a little bit. What's up with that?

We have snow here too- it's starting to stick abit to the grass in some places. Home today DS(9) is not feeling good. Trying to get our house cleaned up and ready to go for Easter- we are hosting it for both sides of the family.............

Made some meatballs today so we'll see how they turned out, now to clean up those dishes......

Our 3 Marans chicks are moving around the brooder and seem to be doing well- it was touch and go the first few days.

Good luck to those hatching, I am done for the time being- bator is cleaned up and put away.

Started snowing here about 10 minutes ago.

Making a batch of Ginger/Molasses cookies for a bake sale at work tomorrow. Proceeds go to our co-worker who lost everything in the Merrill tornado.

Dr.H I do love your pie crust! All those pies I made were awesome! Nothing beats a nice FLAKY piecrust!

I have 2 nests of eggs outside..... not sure if I should leave the eggs out there and just wait and see or pull them out...... nobody is setting them yet, but I think the idea is beginning to swirl around in those feathered heads out there.

Going to roast a turkey for dinner tonight; that should make the house feel like Christmas! I think I will turn my lights back on too!

Everyone be safe out there!
