I asked a priest one time if it was OK for boys and girls to sleep together.. He told me it definately alright, except for the fact that you boys never want to sleep..

Jim, congrats on the goose. Just got back from a friends house for dinner, Son drove in the dark and in the rain. God help me. I think I have a spot worn on the carpet where the brake should be.

. I just checked on the chicks all are sleeping. one comet is away from the rest. 98 degrees in the brooder and they all seem to be fine. The little slw is right in the middle, so she will be warm. Stay dry, sleep well

I had a son and 2 daughters .. I remember screaming like a little schoolgirl when riding with them LOL

98F is plenty warm.. I like to watch the chicks when setting the temp.. wherever they are the most active, is where I leave it..
I found that temp is about 85F to 90F.. they will let you know if it is too cold.. they will start with their distress chirping.. You will recognize it when you hear it.

The other thermometer says 87 so I am kind of averaging them. When not sleeping they normally are all over so I think the temp is ok. If too hot, they can move further away.
Do you guys leave a light on for them during the day other than the red heat lamp light? Not sure if they need or want it. So far so good, not really noisy, although I have 6 classes of 30 teenagers so nothing seems loud anymore.

I am happy to report that ALL chicks are STILL in the bator! I cant believe that I have had this much will power! I just looked at them and told them they had to stay in until at least tomorrow morning....I am proud of myself! So now they are even more mad...good thing I am going up to bed and wont be able to hear them. It kind of sounds like, "Dam^ you Jim, why did you say that?"

On second thought, maybe you had better get out of bed and put them into a brooder... LOL

Having all the kids and grands for Easter Dinner. Will be a FULL house. I'm sure the chicks will get a lot of attention.
Happy Easter to all, Susie

Ooooooooooooooooooooooyyyyyy, my back hurts. Been working on a new brooder/broodie hutch to move out my lavender ameraucanas to the youngster shed and to avoid pacing by the incubator chanting "Pip!"

It's coming along nicely, but I think I'm done for the night. Need to go get a little more wood for the doors anyhoo.

Here's a progress photo. (My 2 year old is delighted with Mommy's work and has great plans for that hutch. He insisted that the shelves be filled and brought all of his big toys out to the garage.)
