Good morning to all! Happy belated Mother's Day to all the Mom's out there too! (Yes MLH--I DID spend my day working on my coop! I really only had to get the run tacked up 'cause I finished it late Saturday night. Got the run (such as it is) up and moved the biggest of the birds out there yesterday afternoon. Only two had the gumption to come out and check out the ground...the gold gene cuckoo from Hurley and the Wheaten Ameracauna Roo from H&R! Actually I pulled the Wheaten out...so as soon as I am done with my favorite breakfast (popcorn and coffee) I am heading out to open their door to a "new life." They probably wont come out today either...
ya work so hard....then they are, well, CHICKEN!
Hurley--I am sooo sorry to hear of your tragedy! I HATE Teflon pans...I allow one for cooking eggs only. I had the same thing happen 7 years ago when my ddthen12 boiled a pot dry making Ramen noodle soup. Lost my canary, parakeet, cockatiel and Senegal parrot we had had for 20 years! All pots went to St Vinnies immediately! I still wonder about coated bakeware...I switched to glass but some pans (like round cake pans) still are coated....they say they have to be superheated to let off fumes; but that is the manufacturer talking!
to you girl...you can rebuild; and just think how much healthier your family will be without those nasty pans!
I am jealous that you have your garden in DrH! Mine is still in it's disarray of winter mess! The coop was taking precedence here...yesterday I did finish getting the salad greens in in the raised bed. Several types of Mesclun and mustard, onions and something called "corn salad." Anybody ever have it? It says spoon shaped leaves with a nutty flavor. 21 to 40 days! Cant wait for fresh lettuce that actually tastes like something! I am reading a book right now,
Barbara Kingsolver's Animal, Vegetable, Miracle About her and her family's move to eating only food grown by them or in their area for a whole year. So far it is very interesting! She writes the main part with pieces by her DD17 and husband. Her youngest is only 8 so cant be included but she is in charge of the chickens! I am up to May in the book and they are doing a lot of the same things that we all are working on!
OK--better get out to the coops (whoo hoo--I have TWO now) and let out the feathered ones. Funny that David and I finished our coops on the same day...well, his looks way better...but I bet I didnt spend as much!
Have a fantastic day! Terri O
(ps) BL4--we did squirrels one year. Darn things got pretty mean when it was feeding time! We took them camping with us and released them in the park. Figured they would have a good chance of survival near campers....they came back to the cage for two nights but on the third they were gone!
