Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Happy Fish Fry Friday.... Nice pic Doc. Prolly time to frame another one. Generations from now the wheels would turn wondering about the pic.

Holy Cow Jim that was a close call. Good thing you were home. Thanks for the heads up.

Nice pile of morals dooner....Suzie is jealous. Next few days they should be up around here.

I was feeling kinda pranky today, having to sit around and not participate in all the things to be done this time of year, so I figured I'd fill the hummer feeder with beer and watch a bunch of drunken hummers flying around
gig.gif
They had a blast til one flew into the window while fighting over the beer feeder.....

Suzie told him not to drink so much!

182_120.jpg

Suzie said you should go and sleep it off!

182_119.jpg

He thought that was a great idea!

After a good rest, offf to the maple he flew!

Just kidding about the beer. Don't want anyone to think I'd actually try that.

Later... ~ bigzio

evening all,

Wasn't it a glorious day. I took the chicks out today to the coop. At first they were nervous and all chirping but after a short time they were out exploring. I just pu them in the coop and will turn on the heat lamp at bedtime.

Here are 2 pics, Wierd eyes on one of them.

Evening All!!

FT-Oh thank goodness!! You were not the only one to confuse morals with morels so don.t feel stupid !! Poor Dooners post made no sense to me until he posted the pic of the mushrooms! Now it is clear Purely Poultry probably gets his guineas from this farm. It is the biggest guinea farm in the US I believe.

DrH-Peatwo is so handsome!

Otonoh-great pics of the big day! I love the slightly confused looks! That one with the blue eye/s is cool! Very interesting.

Bigs-that hummer is amazing. I feed them here but they must pass through to some where else. I see them every once and awhile. I saw my first Oriole the other day. It was very beautiful.

Welcome to moeplants and Gaelio!

So, I have had an odd thing happening with the food dish in Buzzy's tank. I fill it and about 15 to 30 minutes later it's empty If they chicks are asleep it lasts longer. Ok, I know I have a Cornish Cross meatie in there that plants him or herself in the dish and eats for what seem a long time. I get that part, but we are talking one chick here. The others eat like normal chicks and Buzzy is a light snacker. So today I found out why. It seems that I have not read the Worthless Chicken Tricks handbook completely. Apparently there is a chapter about how mash is fun to take dust baths in. I caught my bigger Barred Rock chick, whom I have named Tallulah (Tootles to her friends), red handed.....red winged?....red feathered?....in the act of dust bathing in the chick mash. It is very cute to see a 4 day old chick dust bathe even though it was in her food. It's even cuter when the 4 day olds dust bathe in the places they are supposed to dust bathe in....

Oh man...I've gotta go to bed! We have an early day tomorrow to get on the road to go to the seminar. I better get to bed....Night!

Dooner, score on the schrooms !

otonoh they are so fun, we put our chicks out yesterday and then let them out in the run today. It is fun to watch them explore and fly in amazement to themselves. I put them in the coop tonight just so I could go in and not worry. DH said he was suprised I didn't put the baby monitor out in the coop

We have:
2 Partridge cochin Bantams- both boys- hatched out March 10th so a little over 2 months
3 production white leghorns- 1 girl and 2 boys now around 6 weeks old
5 production new hampshires(red color) they are around 6 weeks old- we think they are all girls
1 Wheaten Ameraucana cockeral- a little over 3 months old

the ones that are 6 weeks old were gotten to keep our 1 chick hatch company but that 1 chick is now hanging out with our last hatch. All the chick except the cockeral currently all hang together.

We actually planted about 1/3 of our garden tonight. Planted our potato plants and our 400 hundred onions along with beets, carrots and shelling peas and edible pod peas. Then DH got a call to go in and check out a water leak

tenant wasn't answering their phone so he couldn't talk to them and get more information.

hoping that the whole weekend isn't rainy

off to hold down the couch for a while!

All of you inclined to mushroom hunt just be sure of what you are getting; there is a false morel out there and I would hate for anybody who did not know better to find one and get sick! We have also found morels by pine trees; I have no idea why but they are there. Those in the pic are beauties!!!

DH is winning major domestic points with me tonight, he is getting my homemade brooder all wired up and ready to go!
love.gif
I did not even have to ask him! I'll have to make him some rhubarb pie tomorrow I guess...

Ok, 4 AM gets here pretty quick. I better head to bed. Night all!

I caught the gosling a bedtime and put him back into his cage.. He took it very well,, no crying or anything.. The duckling made me net him.. LOTS of squawking and squirming.. LOL The gosling hung close to the big geese all day.. that earned him another day of freedom tomorrow..

I turned the trio of jungle fowl loose today.. I think I have enough eggs in the bator from them.. besides, I have to clean out that pen and get it ready for the turkey poults..

I bought a plastic shrubbery rake today.. It comes in handy for retrieving eggs that are layed under places where old people can't bend far enough to grab.. might come in handy for retrieving chicks from the far back of the incubator, too..

I have been using a stick with a sharpened nail on the end.. I poke it into their leg and drag them forward until I can grab them by hand.. this is just as true as Brent feeding Hummers beer..

I think that quote appears in my mushroom hunting book! My friend said he was going to bring me some morels to try this year...IF they find any. I hope they do...the one time I tried some they had been refrigerated for a few days and must not have been at their best. I have eaten Dryads off of my stump twice already this year and after this rain there should be a few more pickings! I just love them!

Tomorrow is the dairy breakfast and the girls are volunteering so they will turn in 4H forms too. I sure hope the fair woman doesnt have a problem with it because the due date was TODAY!!! I thought she said "at the dairy breakfast" but then as I thought a little more she might have said "before 4pm the friday BEFORE the breakfast!" I am more than a little worried...

I actually remembered to take down my laundry before the rain this time! Yeah for me! Jim I sure hope that you were planning on replacing that counter top soon anyhow! What a bummer!
DrH--excellent pic of you two boys bonding! I can see why you like that roo.

I had to put all the baby Ameraucanas in their roosting place again tonight. The light wasnt on and they decided to pile up in the corner of the pen instead of going in...maybe they ARE afraid of the dark? The young ones still in the basement really need to be cleaned out tomorrow...getting a bit ammonia-y down there! Had a nest of ducklings hatch today. I think there are 8? Not sure, it was pretty dark where they bedded down for the night to get a good count. My guinea is sitting! I am happy. THere have to be about 30 eggs under her so I will keep a close watch...AND--THE BEST NEWS EVER......my yellow naped parrots have TWO eggs!!!!! I guess in a month or so I might be handfeeding baby parrots! I better get reading, it has been a while since I have done this.

OK--I am exhausted. I need to hit the hay...sweet dreams all! Terri O
