My horses and chickens get along great. I even have babies right now that weave through horse feet if I'm down there. I so far have not had a problem. Even if the horses lose their minds for a moment and run through the barn the chickens get out of the way fast enough. I think every little and big girls should have a horse. Get a halflinger and then you both could ride. Big enough for an adult but small enough for a young child. That's going to be my next horse purchase. MLH- Ours fear manhole covers, when we go into town to visit SIL, the horse struggle with them. Did you know they eat horses, those evil manhole covers.

Hello to everyone one new. Welcome! Hope everyone is doing well. Had a really nice weekend here. My girls were up in Rhinelander with my parents this weekend so only had the two older girls. Had people over on Sunday and went to DH's mom's today. Nice relaxing weekend. Missed my girls by the end of it though.
Well I don't think my hatch is going to happen. Set the eggs on the 6th and Murry has been sitting dutifully on them and so far nothing. There is developed chicks in them, but I think they are goners. If nothing by Tuesday I'll have to pull them. I feel bad for Murry, she worked so hard for nothing.
Well I'm off to bed. Busy day tomorrow. No rest for the wicked.

good evening, I do not remember where I left off so some of this might be old news..

tried to take a nap..but my wife's cousin showed up for a tour of the "farm"..

After a lot of swearing, I got the axle made and the wheels mounted onto the garden cart.. It is coming together nicely..
I decided to make a solid box on it and no removable "tailgates"

moved the turkey into a vacant (rare commodity) cage and gave her a cozen guinea eggs.. surprisingly, she didn't mind the change of scenery and went right to work making a nest and gathering the eggs under her.. June 25th is the due date..

at 7 pm I turned all the guineas loose into their yard for the first time this year.. I figured that an four or so of freedom just before dark and then they would go right back into the coop at dusk.. It worked like a charm.. I will do it again tomorrow and then extend the time each day.. after about a week they should be able to roam the whole property and come to roost at night..

Annie prompted this whole thing.. today she picked a woodtick off of herself.. showed it to me and said,, turn those birds loose.. LOL of course, like always, I got in the last words.. "yes, dear"

having a great turkey hatch going on.. lots of americauna and guineas too , but that is not as unusual..

with so many people not coming to the bash, will there be anybody there?

still have not been able to get into the garden.. I am going to have to drag it again before we can plant.. weeds are coming up even before it is planted.. we ordered 2 pounds of corn from Jung, and it is not here yet..

here is a caption for the horse and chicken photos..

Chicken: I'm smiling,, I'm smiling !!

Good evening to all...I am sitting in my yard typing cause it is too dam^ hot in the house! I am baking a strawberry rhubarb pie and I have DS22 calling me in when the timer rings. I hope he doesnt fall asleep! I am taking the pie to my clients tomorrow but will leave a few pieces here for the chillens!

Had a nice visit with H&R today picking up my hen from her...boy, the Wesummer sure knew that she was to be HIS GF! I had to put her back in the dog kennel to keep her safe! All the other chickens in that pen were just fine but he was going WILD!!! That new mower of her DH's sure is neat...I know mine would like one like that!

Talked with Carol (WIchookchick) and she nearly jumped at the chance to take care of my stuff! I said it kind of in passing like, "man, I sure wish you werent on BYC cause then you could take care of my stuff while we are gone." She said she would be GLAD to!

I guess this means I can go and NOT worry!!! I am so excited! (thanks Carol!) SSHHHH...she doesnt know what she is in for....this is a great deal though cause then she and her SO can go and do stuff they want to do too. I am so happy
clap.gif
It kind of reminds me of another thread where we were talking about how it would be nice to go and do someone else's chores and they do yours...kind of a vacation for all...except I would want someone to come here in January to do mine and I would go to Florida or Arizona the same month to do theirs....who knows...maybe someone who lives in hot all the time would like breaking ice out of buckets!?

So Jim and DrH...I cant imagine that I am the only one wondering about CF and what ever the other initials you gave bar stock stand for...I was thinking hardened or no...but the letters dont match--please enlighten me? Gosh--I learn so much from you guys....first how to split a tractor and now this!

MLH--isnt it funny how horses see things? We had an old thoroughbred that wasnt afraid of anything except cows...maybe he was related to your are? He would literally jump out of his skin if he saw a cow. Dragged me half way around the fair park one year cause he thought the little calf behind us was going to eat him!
Those litte duckies were sassy tonight though...went to lock them up and they all went right out the pop door with Mom--made me go back out later to close it all up! BAD duckies! If you are in need of more rabbits just let me know...my neighbor will send me to the bash with some if anyone so desires! He has all colors and they get to be big rabbits. Too funny about the Packer "cup!" You must have been thinking about the Derby or Belmont something!

I am having some interesting typing errors out here...I must look at the key board more than I think...lots of correcting to do unless I really concentrate!

Kristip--I would be happy to bring stuff back from the bash for you if you need me to! I am so jelous that you got a lot done in your yard this weekend! Maybe my yard of too big...it looks like I didnt accomplish anything...HMMM--DH is going back to Missouri this week; perhaps I should extend the fence? Smaller yard--less work right?
Hey--who was commenting about June bugs? I just got dive bombed by one!!! YUK! Timer has rung--gotta check that pie! Crust is a little pale yet....

Bigz-jealous of you and DrH for having your stuff in the garden too! My garden is still not tilled...tiller is at the Doctor still. I ham hoping to get him back tomorrow! Not sure how long it takes to get the part! I might just call the small engine guy and tell him that the community gardens have been tilled but mine HASNT! I knew I shoulda dont mine first!

Hurley! So nice to hear from you!!! I put the lavenders away again tonight...they have only gone in ONCE so far! I need to get some more roost space in there I guess--maybe then they would go in. Your holiday sound soooooo nice! I sure miss the little ones in the kiddie pool! Digital wasnt around when I took a cute shot of bare naked butts around our little pool....I will have to see if DD will scan it for me and I can post it--soooo cute!
I will pot up another mulberry and bring it to the bash...unless you'd rather just come and get it? Many here growing all over!

OK pie is finally done! I will leave you with a picture...just know that I cant eat it either (so you wont be too sad)

And now I am saying goodnight cause this post went the whole time the pie was baking! I am going to lie on the trampoline and look at the stars for a while! I just love dong that!
Good night! TErri O

Terri--the June Bug comment was mine. It's funny, I was chatting with a friend on the phone tonight, finalizing plans when I'm going to be picking him up from the airport on Friday, etc, and I was complaining about them because I was outside making sure everyone was closed up. He had never even heard of them, so when I got back inside I sent him a link with a picture on Wikipedia and he immediately said he was cancelling his trip!
big_smile.png
LOL! Ugh, I have long hair and I hate hate hate them!

Oh, what the heck...gotta make one more post, because I just saw my post count and it said '299'. I need my 300th to be on the Cheesehead thread!

But now, what to say??

Hmmmm....oh! I know! I forgot to tell you guys that I have an interview tomorrow, at Hurley's work! I also get to pick up some great hatching eggs from her. I'm really looking forward to it--the interview, and the new babies! Cross your fingers for me, guys, I've been looking for work since November!

Thus ends my 300th BYC post. Glad you guys could be here for it.

PS Gonna change my avatar in celebration, too.

Four babies out of 15 eggs.

3 quitters and the rest were clears.

Had a bit of a design flaw in our hatcher. Forgot to make sure the babies cannot get BEHIND the computer fan......... yeah somebody was almost scalped...

I'm a bad chickie mamma! I am just glad we found it while we were home and before one of the chicks was killed!

Went to my old stomping grounds for Memorial Day. I wanted my kids to see how good a High School band can really be. They were blown away.... The Memorial Day program was also very good, and well attended. Drove out to the in-laws and the kids had a blast helping them get flower beds arranged, manured, and mulched..... those kids have too much fun in the country!

Look at the time! Holy smokes! Gotta hit the hay.... later all!

Good luck to you!
You may be jealous, but looking at that pie makes me hungry!

Hope everyone had a wonderful holiday & kept our wonderful military men & women in your hearts today.
Who said they saw lots of motorcycles today? We were one of them! What a gorgeous day for a ride! Glad my sis lives closer to the lake than we do. It was much nicer temps by her, esp. for grilling. Brats, hamburgers, chicken & corn on the cob.

And we still didn't get the garden in either. It was either too wet or we were not home.

Sweet dreams, fellow chicken lovers! Until tomorrow........

TO Hope your horses get better. If they are slipping on the pipe... can't you throw some gravel over it? Or even better, bricks on both sides, them gravel. The bricks help keep it from "washing out". Nice Pie!
droolin.gif

We still plan on going to the bash. I think I'll ask the neighbor guy if he will take care of the chickens. He's always looking for a few bucks. I would have my kids do it but with the price of gas it might be cheaper for the neighbor to do it!
hu.gif
If anyone has 2 or 3 Ameraucana pullets that will be ready for the bash, I would love some! Color doesn't matter, but different form each other would be cool.
fl.gif
Just let me know. (or 1 ea. from 3 people? 1 from 1 &2 from another?)

June Bugs... counted about 60 at my back door. As soon as the chickens get let out there won't be a one left! DH says the girls have been beating him to the back door once he lets them out!

Jim... sounds like your wife trained you well!

Well, my youngest came over to bury Kosher. 2 of my grandsons (4&6) wanted to watch. My son and his friend were talking about burring animals and what happens to them and I don't know why but the thought came to mind... "if you bury a chicken, the next year you get an "Easter Bunny"!"

OK, I'm weird

Well, hopefully I will get to bed early... nigh all!

BTW: No garden for us yet either
