CD not to worry! I know. I have to restrain myself around everybody not all can figure out where I'm coming from. I NEVER mean any harm to anyone! We went fishin, for the first half an hour it was bang bang bang then it shut right off a lot small ones but still managed to bring the bigger ones home and are soaking in the fridge. Nothing to brag about but highly edible. But the most important thing is that L got to go finally! She was a mere split second from getting the prized nickel. First fish gets a nickel! Good thing she didn't extend that to biggest and most cause I would have 3 shiney new nickels in MY tackle box

We had fun but it got hot and weren't getting so much as a bite. Might go again after she gets off work on Wed.

Happy Memorial Day all! Hope your all having a great day in this great Country of ours!

TO- OMG total cuteness overload on the duckies!!

Otonoh-love the chick pics! Yep your SLW looks very rooster like! Very nice looking bird.

Frizzler-horses and chickens are like peas and carrots. Unless we're dealing with my Witch of a Mare. She firmly believes all chickens have saber toothed beaks, eat horses for breakfast, and are best view from a vast distance between then and her. But then I am dealing with a horse that that sees a mountain lion....it's here kitty kitty and she thinks coyotes are really cute dogs, and cows are evil Creatures of the Night.
Those bunnies of ours are Californians right? If you end up with any bunnies that need to be ummm....."saved". Let me know. I would not mind getting a doe from you. I just got some youngsters today to start raising meat rabbits and I'm wanting to get a Calif doe to add to the group I just got...

Cindylady-sorry about the loss of Kosher.

Welcome to the newbies!!!

DrH-Glad you had fun fishing! I've been wanting to go and try out the fishing here in WI but have not had a change to yet.

Well, I got my meat rabbits today! I have to take pics for y'all! I have a Californian buck, a New Zealand doe and a Champagne D'Argent doe. The Champagne is very sweet as is the buck but the little NZ is a little skittish. The nice gentleman who sold then to me sexed them but since they are so young he told me that if they are not what he thought they were as far as boys and girls, to let him know and he'll swap then out. I thought that was very nice of him.
I have them all set up in the car port but it's hot out there so I've been monitoring them closely and have a fan running with frozen water bottles in their cages and flour sack towles soaked in cold water hanging over their cages where the fan is blowing on them. I have to check on them in a minute so I snap a few pics and post them.

To make room for the bigger cages I got for the rabbits, I put the old hens in with the young PR's, Super Glue, and Orloffs. It was really funny to watch this old grizzled Cornish hen (Violet) take to task the Production Reds. Kinda sweet justice for poor Valerie. The PR's are rather mean to Valerie, now they try to hid behind her when Violet is on the war bath. The PR's are twice Violets size but they stay well away from her! Emma kinda just ignores all the youngsters and Lavinia only takes to task those that need to be reminded that she is top hen right after Violet.
Over all everyone seems to be getting on ok. Tonight will be another matter! Perch space will be at a premium!! The older hens are having a ball though!

I re-potted my windowsill herbs into a new herb box and I also got another Heirloom tomato. A Golden Peach if I remember right. I transplanted that into another Topsy Turvy hanging basket.

Now, I've been debating on telling y'all this. The other night dh (HUGE Packer fan) and I were at dinner and somehow the Packers came up in the conversation. Well, knowing how much he wants to go see the Lombardi Trophy, I asked him :"So, honey. When do you want to go up to Green Bay to see the cuppie-thingie that the Packers won?" I swear there was dead silence in the restaurant. Complete with dropped silverware and glasses breaking from being dropped in shock. His reply: "Cuppie-thingie? Did you just refer to the Lombardi Trophy as a cuppie-thingie?!!?" My reply:"Well isn't it? A cup or some such thing?" His reply: "No it's a football". I say " Oh...are you sure it's not a cup?" Him: " A yep..it's not a cup...pretty sure on that one....." Me: "Oh. Hum, coulda sworn it was a cup....."
He is still grumbling today about that little exchange.....

Gotta go before I get flogged! Time to feed the dogs and check the bunnies!

Well with a semi heavy heart, and a discussion with TO... we aren't going to the bash. We would love to, but financing and hubby possibly getting a new position within his department (he has an interview on Weds)...
TO needs a person to house/farm/chicken/goat/sheep/dog/duck/goose and bird sit. So we are going to swap sitting for when I need it.
I don't mind except I will miss you all.
And tell Bigz and Company.. I am sending up the money with TO for our t-shirts.
I am being a bit lazy today as we paid our neighborhood handy man and friend to mow for us today.
I did get our horse's manes done as they had luxuriated in the burdocks a few weeks ago.

Till tonight.
Carol

oh I hate to jinx it, but I need a break from the heat so will say hello on here. Love the nice weather and we got alot done on yard projects... still more to do later tonight, but I am coming in a little early to prep dinner. Making brats/dogs with corn on the cob and watermelon for dessert. Sounds so good for memorial day. Always lots of gardening projects around here. Just put in a ton of hostas and shade plants and got the shady spot next to the coop done. Now need to talk my MIL into some more for our shed area.

Might have convinced my dear hubby that 2 more bantams like silkies might not be so bad.... have to finish the convincing before the bash as Sandi was maybe bringing some... not sure if we can go, but maybe we can convince someone down the line to bring them back this way. (maybe TO to Carol to us???) Anyway- got to keep going on that with him. My MIL says to just ask for forgivness once they are here but rather prepare him for the babies. Then it will be preparing the other hens... they finally settled down and stopped picking on and plucking our first silkie so all is well between the group right now.

Anyway= enjoy the beautiful day!

90* here waaay tooo hot for this boy! krist sounds like the perfect Mem day meal! What a great country! Oh WCc was so looking forward to meeting you! Already knew you were good people but to sit for TO really seals the deal! If you meet her approval then I know your special!
hugs.gif
Still wish you were coming! We'll meet some day then you'll be sorry! MLH I laughed so hard at the witchy mares perception of chickens, tried to read it to L but had a hard time between guffaws. Looks like there's some new mator plants on the shopping list. The ones in the mator garden are fine but the ones in the big garden are fading daily. It's out in the open. They only had a little nip on them but now are pretty sad looking was hoping they'd perk up today. Hope all you folks enjoyed your day!

Happy Memorial Day All... The Veterans are in my thoughts for sure...this is your day...THANK-YOU !

Thanks for all the great pics and heart warming stories...I
love.gif
you all!

Busy day here. The tiller friend showed today. Me and suzie have one garden planted. 16 mato plants, 8 green pepper plants, 8 broccoli plants, and I think 5 rows of potatoes...oh ya TO, I just have to mention that my plants were .25 each, just sayin

Carol so sorry you won't be at the bash...yep you win the cheesehead of the year award... maybe we can figure something out?

Try to get back later...

Holy "did I miss spring?" hot Memorial Day everyone. 100's of motorcycles on the roads today. Took the last puppy in to town for a play date with his brothers. They had a blast. Puppy has a new home, just waiting for them to get through a family get together this week to take him home.

After that, slathered up the boys and spent a nice afternoon in the sun, filled up the kiddie pool and put the playskool slide into it for some wet fun sliding. The boys had a blast and the water felt good. Chickies are very appreciative of the variety of branches I put into one side of the outdoor run. They could hang out in the breeze and keep cool.

Those bantams love to get high. I just added them to the main layer pen so they're a little timid right now, but certainly don't look to stressed. They are so much more athletic than the big birds that no one can do much pecking at them anyway. They just keep moving or go up on the branches.

Got a broody black Ameraucana sitting on 10 Marans eggs currently. Finally marked the eggs today so I can collect the ones she keeps stealing from others (would hate to crack an egg in the skillet and find a 5 day old fetus, blegh). We'll see if she sticks it out, but so far she is very determined and very bald on her chest.

Terri - I would love some mulberry trees! A pair, if that's what I would need to get fruit. Don't know in what proximity a male tree would need to be to fertilize, so I'm betting I'd need a pair (or a half and half tree, if that's what that is).

Good Memorial Day Evening to everyone and
welcome-byc.gif
to anyone new joining us! Sure thankful to all those who served- my dad and uncle were in durning the Korean war.

Didn't do much today- the heat takes alot out of me ever since I eneded up with heat stroke.

Took the kids to see Kung Foo Panda this am and it was a good movie. Came home and did odds and ends around the house. DH finished making a sprayer attachement for our zero turn mower so he can spray the lawns we mow. TO stopped by this afternoon and picked up her Welsummer pullet since the 1st time around she ended up with 2 boys
he.gif
, talked with her a bit. Someone came and picked up 2 of the extra boys so I am down to 8 extra chicks.

Currently DH and DD are at softball practice so that leaves me and the 2 boys- wish I could say we are relaxing but DS(9) has some school projects/homework to finish- he is learning about the rainforest and doing projects based on that so I have to monitor that
barnie.gif
wish he would have worked on it a bit everyday instead of a mad rush the last part of the day!

Hurley- so all your pups have new homes, that's cool. Do by chance know anyone in the area that raises Blue Marans-fearthered legged?

Suppose back to making sure DS finishes tonight- baseball game for him tomorrow evening.

Wow much to read!
Cindylady sorry for your loss.

The pictures are all great, love those little ones.
We had a very busy weekend here also. Went to Mom and Dads on Sat. AM put in all the screens on the windows and doors. Pulled weeds and put 3 trailer loads of mulch on all the beds. My Brother and 3 sisters were also helping. A lot of work but fun with all of us together. Sat. afternoon/evening two grandchildren and there Dad came to visit. Sunday got the garden in (still room for a few more rows so we will see what we get to add. Today got the flower beds finished. What a great weekend. Thanks to those who gave all for us to be Free. Hats off to all who have served for us XXXOOO.
Welcome to the new " Cheeseheads"

DrH, Happy you got out with the Mrs. to do some fishing, it's on our to do list now that the gardens are done and the yard is getting in shape.
With DH working all the weekends for the past 3 years we had a lot of yard work to do. It's sure nice to have the time together with this new job of his.

Back to work tomorrow, 4 day work week doesn't sound so bad.
