Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

good moring, I am planning on working on the garden cart today.. DrH, CR rod is hard to cut threads on.. but you are correct, they are nice threads once you get the die started.. I ground the end of the rod shiney to reduce the diameter a fraction.. I don't need a class A thread just to hold the wheel on..

5 more turkeys out of the hatcher this morning.. a few guineas and americauna chicks also..

yesterday one of the 3 week old americaua chicks excaped .. He immediately linked up with the Jungle rooster.. I don't know what it is with him and wayward babies.. They must feel safe with him.. the lone baby muscovy duckling linked up with him too..

Typical WI. It goes from cold & rainy to stinking hot.

Raim, I bet you slept good. Sounds like you were busting your keester. And you have to get & post a vid of your DH chasing chickens. Too funny! Glad to hear he's thinking chickens. My hubby will help take care of ours & spoil them rotten, but he just hasn't grasped chicken math yet.
I agree with Jim on subscribing to this thread. You don't get notified for every post.
So sorry, DrH. I was only joking on the tar & feathers. I have a twisted sense of humor. I'll work on that.

Very cool pic of the deer & BTwo. Good luck fishing.
FT, maybe your neighbor would give you 1 or 2 out of appreciation for hatching them? It couldn't hurt to ask. Such cuties! On the batteries, get the rechargables. They last much longer & can be reused over & over. I like the Canon brand (made for digital cameras); they lasted the longest for me, followed by Duracells. I have plant math disease too. Always get way more than I need, and seeds too. Put your seeds in a ziploc bag in a cabinet to store them. They will stay viable for a year or 2. But the older they get, the more seeds you'll have to use.
Dooner, search this site for ACV, apple cider vinegar. A natural wormer & antiparasitic, among other things. It helps the chickens to absorb Vit D and calcium: also, if put in the chicken waterers daily in the summer it keeps the green slime out of the waterers.
Unpastuerized ACV is a form of probiotics which can boost an animal's immune system. Strong immune systems are more resistant to the affects of cocci. Probiotics maintain a normal and healthy level of culture~good bacteria~in the bowels which prevents the more harmful, but naturally occuring, cocci bacteria from proliferating to the degree that it causes diarrhea, ulcerated bowels, dehydration, etc. The dosage I always used for the chickens is 2 tbsp of ACV to a gallon of water and do not use it with anything else in the water such as vitamins or medications and put it in plastic or glass waterers. The acidity in the vinegar can corrode metal so it can contaminate the water.
Welcome, Cranchick2011 & polla37!
TO, love the duckies! So adorable! Wow, you have a lot of them.
Oh, Cind, so sorry for your loss. That's never easy. She was a good looking girl.
Nice coop pics.
Sorry about writing a book. Had to try to catch up.
Hope everyone has a wonderful Memorial Day! We're headed for my sis's.

good morning everyone, happy memorial day, Welcome new people.

The chickens got a nice treat last night, corn on the cob, cooked, they loved it, today they are just hanging out.
I think I have a wyandotte roo, no sound but his comb is more pronounced than the others.
I put some perches in their run, they haven't destroyed the grass yet, they seem to prefer the covered winter run.

here are some pics

Today makes me happy! All of the fun chicken pictures...and my chicks are going to be excited to go outside--I'm putting up the rest of the hardware cloth so they can't get through the chain link anymore. Last night as it started to drizzle I went out to check on them and they were standing in a befuddled lump just OUTSIDE the run. I brought them in and dried them off and they spent the rest of the night in the house--it was much warmer in here!

Jim, how much do you want for 'her'? Do you ever trek down toward Milwaukee way?

Horse is definitely lame. It is not serious but this is our second one to go lame this week. We are looking into causes and are leaning to blaming the water puddle they have to jump through (over?) on the way in from the small paddock. THere is a heavy metal 4" tube that the electric wire runs through and maybe they are banging their feet on it? We will probably never figure it out...
David that is looking like a roo to me too...perhaps babies are in your future? THey look so happy out on the grass. My daughters just left to pick up a 75 gal tank to take to the activity center where DD25 works. She is going to use it as a brooder for a couple of ducklings from here. Will anyone want some very tame muskovies later this summer? They will probably be white. I imagine that they will be getting quite a bit of handling with the summer program there. I really dont care for birds that live outside and at too tame...those seem to always be the ones that the racoons get!

I put my male button quail in a separate cage with the finch babies. Now that he is in here with me I have found that he makes another noise. It sounds kind of like "whooooosh" rising in pitch at the end. It is very quiet...at first I thought it was somebody's computer screensaver noise it is that rhythmical. DH says it sounds like a really quiet chicken growl...then he makes his big noise and the birds in the other room call back to him! Now he has 3 noises...funny how they are when you separate them....

Anyone planning a trip to New York or near there? It's a long shot I know but there are two tortoises there that I want to adopt and the woman doesnst want to ship them. I might ask some of my letterboxing friends too--they seem to always be taking trips around the states...I've GOT to get those torts! It is one year today since Stuart first went missing...maybe I will find him after his looong walk about? (man, that would be fantastic!)

OK--getting off now, I cant type the right letters and am tired of correcting! Off to sweat in the garden I guess! Have fun! Terri O

My DW grandmother used nothing but duck eggs in her baking. You will have to let us know how it goes. I learned something yesterday. I had the girls out of the run yesterday in a collapsible folding dog pen thing, semi free ranging/getting some fresh air. I put it up against the pool fence so the fourth side was the pool fence. I would say the bars are about four inches apart. The hens look about twice as wide, you know where i am going right? Henny Penny kind of just twisted herself and came right in the pool area! I am putting the coop and run inside the pool fence, with the thought that when we are out there they can free range. I know we will have to keep aeye on them in case they decide to go swimming, but know we will have towatch they dont leave the area.

Well I made it in time to still say Good Morning !!

Took a while to catch up again.

Had a few more guineas hatch out after I gave the first 11 to the neighbor. I've got more in the bator for myself !!!

Sorry to hear of the Hen that died from the round worm. I've never seen a round worm in my chickens but then again I'm not looking !! Keeping my fingers crossed
fl.gif
that I don't get a call one day from a customer finding one in the eggs. I guess if the worms are bad enough the worms can travel up into the oviduct (think that is where it goes) and gets packaged up inside the egg when it goes through the shell factory assembly line !!

My silkies are prone to northern fowl mites so I use cattle pour on ivermectin. That gets rid of the mites as well as the worms. I also treated my laying hens once for mites with it but don't do it on a regular basis since you can't eat the eggs for two weeks.

Yep I need to get an actual camera battery. I have some rechargeable ones around here but who knows where they are. I'll keep cannon brand in mind.

My neighbor (that has my keets) just flew to NY for work this week. Don't know where he is actually working though. He just got back from someplace else and the airlines lost his luggage !!

Jim, as soon as I read you've got a new workbench with a vise the thought came to my mind that you would somehow use that for chickens. Sure hope you are going to use that vise instead of the two nails in a tree stump
barnie.gif
Just so you know, yes I am picking on you Charlie Brown !!!!
lau.gif

I don't know much about mullberrys but I wouldn't mind getting a "pair" of those too !!
Geez, all I can offer is hatching eggs, silkies, bantam turken roosters and husband !!!
lau.gif

OH and as far as horses and chickens. Ours get along fine. chickens duck under fence to dig around in the horse sh*t. Sorry but that is what they do !! Haven't lost a chicken yet to the horses or donkeys. We did lose a cat to one of the horses two years ago. Someone dropped off (yes actually put mama cat and two kittens) in our garage and closed the door. I had just had them spayed and neutered and couldn't find one of the little boys. Looked into the paddock and there was blood on one of the spotted drafts legs and then found him dead. Looks like he must have run between her legs and got kicked. Looked like his jaw was broken. He was my favorite, long haired blackish gray color and very petite.
Now of course mama and other son decided to come in the house last fall. Couldn't get them outside if you wanted. Had to get a squirt gun to ward them off my cockatiel, acutally just Nash the delingent (sp)boy. Mama (Whisper) got squirted when I foud out she was using the bay window as a scratching post !!!!
barnie.gif
DH hasn't seem that yet.
hide.gif

Well two days ago they both decided it was to nice to be inside. So they have been outside mousing or ??? The first year they were outside 24/7 with a heated bed in a nice dog house in the garage. I tried not to get to attached since I know barn cats may not live as long as an inside cat. We had an older cat inside(declawed all 4) so bring them in was not someting to consider. So now of course I am attached and am worried sick about them wanting out !!! Last night I was on the phone sitting on my bed with the window open when all of a sudden I heard this thump and scratching on the screed window !!! Sure enough here was Nash clinging to the wind :eek:ow looking like something out of a horror film
ep.gif
lau.gif
All I saw were these two huge eyes staring at me !!! So I went to the door to let him in and the dog out. He comes in. So them I'm worried about him mom and go the the garage door. There she is. Open the door and he Nash goes out !!!
barnie.gif

So they are both still out
fl.gif
Hope they remember their survival skills. It is so weird. When they were in the house all winter they acted like they owned the place and were raised in the house !!!

Oh well, I'll have to look at the screen to see what or if there is any damage to that as well. Nash is so darn cute but a holy terror !!!!
barnie.gif

Here I go rattling again when I should be out doing something. I'm just not a moring person no matter how hard I try !!!

Have a good Memorial Day all !!! And yes do take time to Remember !!

Edited to add, I started typing before noon so I guess that counts as Good Morning ?? But anyway Now it's afternoon so Good Afternoon All !!
