Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

hello all, I went with nephew and brother and picked up a nice HEAVY work bench today.. I am going to eave it outside bcause it is too wide and way too heavy to get into my shop. took five men to load it onto the trailer.. I used the tractor to lift it off the trailer at home..

I found a 3 ft rod to use for an axle on the garden cart.. I lucked out ,, it needed 7/16" axle. (not metric) I brought home CR rod, tough to thread, but I managed to do it.. I meant to get HR rod, but I was in a hurry and forgot to check closely..

I mounted a vise on the new work bench.. Nice to have a sturdy base for a vise outside..

the bench is going to double as a butchering table..

we have guineas , americauna, and turkeys hatching..

there is a turkey hen sitting on nothing.. she is going towards the end of the second week.. Tonight Annie said that we should give her a few eggs.. Now, what kind?? I think a batch of guinea eggs should give her a challenge when they hatch.. Prolly cure her from ever going broody again.. LOL

Spooner is NW of Wausau....... North from Eau Claire on Hwy 53.

Grilled brats and hamburgers for dinner tonight, and made s'mores on the fire pit. Good evening!

I am leaving the house tomorrow so I am not bothering those eggs in the hatcher! I would like to get some fishing in along with visiting relatives.... we will see what happens.

Everyone have a great evening!

Hey people! I have been doing some research on those Mulberry trees that you all requested. I found that I have two typed of leaves on my mulberry trees. It looks to me that the ones with the deeply lobed leaves are the male trees that do not bear fruit. I have one pruned into a bush in my rock garden and it has never born fruit...then there are the oval leaved ones with sometimes a "mitten shaped" leaf. Those in my yard have berries growing already. OK, now for the confusing part...I have potted up a plant with BOTH types of leaves!

On the web it says that the trees can change from male to female and some can even have both on the same tree! I have one of each so far...how many of you wanted Mulberry trees again?

LOOK--baby ducks!!!!

I found them when I was locking up for the night. This Mom made her nest in an old dog house I have around....then she dutifully brought all the babies into the coop for the night! What a good Mama.

These birds are my sassy ones...they are always ON THE ROOF of the coop when I go to lock up! Yes Hurley--they are the lavender bantam Ameraucanas from you!

WHat did you do to them to make them so sassy???? :LOL

DrH--I love the pick of that doe and your roo! Sure wish I could see that out of my door!
My calls are "thinking" about making another nest. Maybe I will get some yet?

I hear the fireworks at the "tournament of destruction" at the racetrack...that means the fam will be home soon. Cant wait to hear the "highlights" of the trailer race...a fun time; but I say once is enough! They go EVERY holiday weekend!

Think I will go and make some popcorn! Nighty night! Terri O

We had such a great weekend here! We went camping at Wild West Campground in Amherst. It's a campground that has 18 horses that does pony rides and trail rides. DD got to do a hand led pony ride because they weren't doing trail rides the day we got there. Then the next day we went on a 45 minute trail ride. The owner has a Percheron named Jeb. He told DD that if she could remember his name all weekend she could ride him and sure enough, Saturday evening he told us to get the camera so we could take lots of pics. Here's the best one.

After all that I riding I'd really like to have a horse. I grew up with them so I have experience, but haven't had my own since I was about 14. Kinda hoping DD and I can talk DH into letting us get one

How do horses and chickens get along??? Do they have to be separated so we don't have tenderized chicken?

Like I had mentioned earlier, mama bunny had her babies, but didn't want anything to do with them, so I ended up taking the 3 that survived with us. They seem to be doing really well. Hope DH doesn't plan on eating these, I already have too much of a connection with them now

ROFL, I remember you posting about your bunnies, you actually took them camping! You just made my day! Our neighbor had a horse that squished a rooster, but that's all the problem I've ever had. See if you have any friends who can give you a refresher on how to groom and ride a horse, or do a lesson or two. Its does wonders!

Well--*points finger, whines* Dooner started it! He put it into my brain that a duck would be a great addition to the coop!

Anybody close by have chocolate pied Muscovies? I'm looking for a gal to add to the group over here...let me know! I bake so much and I've heard so many great things about what duck eggs can do for baking, I would LOVE to have a ready supply! Just...nobody tell my dad, okay? If nobody mentions it he doesn't go outside to look and we're okay...

I just LOVE having chickens along with my horses! With the chickens flying and squawking around the horses they are nearly bombproof! THe chickens do a great job scratching the manure and keeping the flies down too...although the fly predators really help...I think that chickens and horses are a natural!
Wasnt that the campground that Chris Dies (a cheeseheader) worked at? Didnt someone say that it got hit really bad with that storm a few weeks ago? Is everything OK there now? I think that is the place that we considered for our bash this year. Terri O

I'm not sure if Wild West got hit or not. All seemed fine there to me. The owner was talking about a cheeseheader that worked there. I believe he said that he got rid of all his chickens and coop and everything. Don't know who he was, I'm way too much of a newbie here. Thanks for the input on chickens w/ horses, I didn't really think they'd bother each other much, but ya never know...

I wish I could get a horse...that is many years down the road for me. So I live vicariously through the photographic evidence that others get to have fun with horses...thanks, Frizzler!!

Also--FAUGHHH! JUNE BUGS! Why won't my hens eat more of them?! It's not even June yet, and it's been cold, so this is so not fair. They're just so...big and bumbly and get caught in hair...and...FAUGH!
