Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

I awaken with news that my day isn't going to plan.

Long story short, I ordered chicks and they are in, but they are two hours away in a town I'm going to be living in for the next month starting tomorrow. The post office called me at 6:30am to tell me they are in, but there is nothing I can do about it, and they have been unable to reach the ppl I'm staying with. Think of a phone drop area of Twilight Zone proportions. So now I've got to worry about this all day long, hoping I get a call back from the family letting me know the chicks got picked up.

If not, I really really hope they can last a night. ARG!!!!

OK here goes CR stands for cold rolled steel, HR for hot rolled steel. It's a the way it's formed. Just as the names imply hot rolled is drawn through the forming dies when it's hot etc. Both can have carbon added to them to give them more strength or hardness. Cold rolled tends to give you a cleaner thread because of the way it's formed the hot rolled will produce a more jagged thread. If you looked at it under a microscope it looks like a saw blade. But if you anneal either you can get a really nice smooth finish. Annealing is a process of bringing the metal to a certain temp then cooling it in various ways to achieve the desired characteristics for it's application. That's the basics. bl4 glad you corrected the fan situation that wouldn't have been pretty. 4 babies!

Think today will be a good day to get the shed cleaned out and maybe eat some weeds. At least there's a breeze! Time to let the monsters out. Have a good one!

HensnRoos - I don't have any non-cuckoo blue Marans this season, but my new splash cuckoo rooster is only carrying one cuckoo gene, so he should produce 1/4 splash, 1/4 blue, 1/4 splash cuckoo, and 1/4 blue cuckoo for me when he's up and running. Probably won't get him and his blue ladies into their own breeding pen until next spring, though. The gal I got my blues from may have some. She lives a couple miles from here. I think she goes by KimsCoops on here, but not sure. I could dig up her email addy if you were interested. Otherwise I'm looking to rehome a couple blue Marans hens. I've got 2 going to Carol, want to keep the two silver blue gals, and have 2 others. They are now 14 months old.

Terri - not sure if I'll be able to make the bash or not, but can certainly come pick up the tree.

Keedokes - Good luck!

Good morning....decided to try getting up early for a change! My chores are already done and now I am enjoying a cuppa in the yard wishing I could just taste "a little" of my pie....gotta love wireless...gotta hate Celiac!

Also gotta laugh...or you just might cry!
Seems like it wants to rain here today. The sun is peeking out and the clouds seem to be flying NE so I am hoping the blue from the West keeps coming...at least for the morning! I have to be at work at noon and was hoping to accomplish something in the yard this morning. I already fixed the toilet (no--it isnt in the yard...) it was filling fast now but the valve was gunked up so it kept filling---all is now well. The flies out here are bothersome...and I had a few nice junebugs in my slurry of mushroom parts, molasses and water this morning...went and dumped that under the oak where I found those morels. An elderly woman told me to take the ends and mix thm with a little molasses and water and let them "brew" for a day and then dump them back...supposed to give me more morels later--next year? Anyone ever heard of this? I thought "what the heck, cant hurt!"

Hurley--I would be happy to give your "old" hens a home! If you want to bring them when you come to get your tree that would be great! I will PM you my number in case you dont have it. I had to call around to find Carol's and Sweetfolly's the other day...thinking we should have a data base somewhere....

There's the sun! It's making it kinda hard to see the screen! Good luck Kee on your interview! How exciting!

DrH--what's wrong with making wood today? Rain, humidity, wind? Just want to know what is headed my way! Well Larry's should be open by now...gotta find out the timeline on my tiller. If it is going to be too long I will have to figure out something else!

Have a fantastic day everyone! Terri O

good morning all..

If I had known all you night owls were going to post late last night I would have checked in..

I took 6 more turkeys up to the chickTV.. that makes 18 from this hatch.. plus 20 outside already..

I would like a couple of mulberry trees.. what happens if both are male or female ? I am guessing they are like plums and there are enough of both on either tree to pollinate each other.

my nice plum tree is dropping blossoms already, and the one I planted for cross pollination hasn't even started to blossom.. No plums from that tree again this year.. sh!# !!

If the weather holds today, I should finish the garden cart.. I am building it outside on the new workbench/butchering table..
It is costing me way more than I figures.. The cedar planks were free, but that is where "free" ended..LOL It will end up costing about $50.oo..

I might have to build another chicken plucker.. someone stopped by and was interested in buying the one I have..

those horses sure can fake being afraid when it suits them, eh?

when we were kids, they built a new bridge across the river.. the horses acted like it was a giant mouse trap or something that would surely kill them.. It turned into a battle of bullheads.. them against us.. by the time we got finished with the fight, those horses would gallop over the bridge.. It took a few trips back and forth , but they got the idea..

Good humid morning everyone,

So many posts. Thanks for the great read.
Last night the girls slept without their heat lamp.
They survived it was 65 this Morning.
I think it is now warm enough That I don't have to keep them
Under the lights. This morning at 5:30 they were all out some on
Their perch some eating insects

Have a great day

David

otonoh now your making me think... STOP THAT! It hurts! I'm thinking that if you can't find someone that wants him he could replace Buster. Who dang near got weed whacked a little while ago.

I came around the corner of the machine shed and he wouldn't budge. He brought spurs to a weed whacker fight. NO I didn't but the thought crossed my mind. My original idea was to get the slw's because they will go broody. Seems like every year now I get new ideas

Having bad thoughts about some Delawares. So I guess if no one wants him I'll take him back. Got done with the weeds just as it started to rain. Good neighbor Donny showed up right then to try out the brush blade that I sharpened for him, didn't have much to work with but it cuts Hazelnut brush like a dream. Must have gotten it right. When my cheapie Ryobi dies I'm gettin one of those fancy Stihl's! Jim have half a doz plums in the yard but they only produce small fruit, no big deal to me I don't eat em. Their old tree's. One has mystified me for the last 4-5 years I swear there's nothing holding it up but bark. But after every storm there it is. TO that sounds interesting about the morels never heard that before let me know if it works. Hope you get your tiller back soon! If I were there I'd help you out with that pie and give you a detailed account of every chew. Naw that'd be mean.

The rain stopped now on to something else a shower, lunch, and a nap sound real good but.....

Ok, I just can't resist no matter how hard I try.

Since Jim is our egg hatching madman, I was wondering if he ever tried this one. The lady wants some egg hatching advice

OK I know this is the only place I could post this and share what is going on at my house the last 24 hours!

I had 5 eggs under my first time broody hen Jill and after 4 hatched she was off the nest and tending to them. I felt bad for the left over egg since it was cold. It was one that I could see in and there is a chick in it. I put it in my bra all day yesterday to keep it warm. Then put it out under her last night while she was sleeping. In the morning she was off the nest again with chicks and the egg had pipped over night!!!!!

So..... I put it back in my bra and off to work I went About an hour ago it started CHEEPING!!!!! It is alive and I can see it in the little hole moving around! I hope it is ok the rest of the work day and then I can sneak it back under her tonight to finish hatching!!

Has anyone ever done with before, or have I completely lost my mind LOL!!!!!
I just couldn't let it die since it was a day behind the others!

Edited to add: I am not the one who had the egg in my bra. I was quoting from the original post from the thread I had included above.
The gal with the egg in her bra is named Mrshollywood. And it hatched successfully.
