Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Morning all. It's gonna be a hot one out there today. This morning doing chores and watering plants at 7 it seemed to be comfortable out there - right now... I think I would sweat bullets. I need to get in my garden and get some weeds pulled.... maybe I will attempt that this evening when it cools down a bit.
My carrots are also turning out to be a disappointment. It doesn't look like I have anything for carrots at all. Lets hope that changes...

TO - cute picture! Look at all those fuzzies!

I just want to snuggle them up!

Kee - that looks like you are doing a great job with that coop refurb and run! Way to make use of things laying around. I always feel so handy when I am able to reuse and recycle things around the house to make something new. Just did that with my flower bed edging this past week

DrH - better get that wood done before the heat and humidity hits this afternoon... don't want another episode like you had a couple weeks ago! I will be glad to read that you are no longer out in the woods doing all that cutting, it's getting a little to far into summer for that business!

Okay - there was more I was going to say but can't for the life of me remember what it was....

My broccoli went straight to bolt as well--sad because I've only been allowed to container garden, and I only have three plants.

I sure wish I had a horse! Going riding with y'all sounds like so much fun--I haven't sat a horse since I was pregnant with my son, though, so just over four years. I miss it!

Thanks for the comments on the coop/run, too. I am proud of it. I built everything but the nest boxes (a friend stopped by yesterday and saw that I was coop building, so he jumped in too). The whole back swings out for cleaning and the top is just waiting for it's roof (when I come up with more repurposed wood) then it will be done!

I even got the run for free--it's a used dog kennel. I love being in the right place at the right time!

yep I am STILL working on editing the bash pic, guess who is causing me the most trouble? French Toast! and you are such a liar! lol I agree to many cherries!

Hey BigZ by any slim chance did you find and save the huge subway "cup"?

I just (on Tues) realized that I can't find it. I believe it was sitting by the coffee pot? :sigh: If you threw it away I will forgive you.

I'm sure I can replace it.

with all this talk on not being able to see DrH in the pic, I'm thinking I might be able to fix that!

wouldn't he love me then!

I can hear him now

I found my short fence posts which only means that now I have to put up the fence for the new call ducks. BL4 did you answer my question about when the call is due to hatch?

Hey, just heard that the building that houses my son's restaurant, as well as many apartments, in Madison caught on fire in the upper stories this morning. It's still on fire. Those guys have tried so hard to put together a business that serves local, organic, humane food and then this happens. We'd appreciate some good thoughts. Best case scenario is that the resturant (which wasn't on fire, but a lot of smoke and water damage at this point of the fire) can reopen at some point.

And those of you who live by me, if you have need of some two-year old hay for bird or other animal bedding for FREE, come and get it! It's hay time, and I don't see using this with all the new hay coming in.

Hi all!

Well, my morning went to heck in a hand basket right quick.
I was watering the chickens and Buzzy got out of her cage and in with the hens. I had already had the waterers in hand and I was thinking about how hard Buzz would be to catch. The Girls were being really good with her so I though that I'd change their water real quick like. So I was squatting down, scrubing waterers and then stood up and almost passed out! I'm talking super dizzy, head pounding, and nausiated. It took almost 2 minutes for the spell to pass and I even tried the" sit with your head between your knees" routine. Nothing helped. The spell finally passed and I was able to get the waterers back into the pen. By this time, poor Buzzy was being ran around and cornered. She saw me and ran into my hands and I stuffed her back into her little cage. I then got to the house and told my dh that we needed to go to the ER and why. He panicked. Then his phone rang and he got himself under control and I just sat down on the cough since I was still a little dizzy. We got to the ER and I got admitted right away. Love those small town hospitals! Got hooked up to the heart monitor and ekg and the old BP was normal and the heart rate and rhythm was normal. Long story short, they pulled blood- all normal- and the Doc said any number of things might have caused the dizzy spell. No signs of stroke, no signs of heart attack, but he does want my pace maker clinic to check my unit. He did not think that it was a pacing issue since I just had it all checked out last month. He commended me that I took the initiative to come in the ER. He was glad that I took the signs seriously and that was important for a heart patient to do, even if nothing I felt was really wrong. So, I got released with a take it easy today and if the sign return with in two weeks to call my doctor and too drink more water. I thanked him for his time and caring and also for giving Doctors Orders to haunt BYC today and play on the computer!

The only thing that is not too happy is the garden. I never got around to watering it! I will have to ask dh to "help" me with that.
Well, I had best call the pace maker clinic......

well, I have the "gramma watch" right now .. I did get the corn weeded (tilled).. I had planted 16 rows, but 4 rows are real spotty, so I am going to abandon them for corn and plant something else in their place.. It was last year's corn seed than didn't germinate too well..

I called to see how mch new tiller tines would cost for my Troy Bilt Horse.. the first ones I bought many years ago cost about $55.oo.. are you ready for this?? Now they cost $188.oo !!!! I would be better off buying a used tiller someplace and stripping the parts off of it.. I always wondered why there are so many Troy Bilts for sale on Craig's List.. They probably all need new tines..

I have an acquaintance who I had do some welding for me.. I am going to call him and see if he can re-face the tines.. they used to do that sort of thing on plow points, before replaceable points were invented.. How about it DrH and the rest of you machinists... will that work??

Annie moved all the older young birds (quail and guineas) out to the coop brooder.
We have two sets of guinea eggs hatching .. about 18 in the chickTV already..

Keedokes, try cutting your broccoli back .. just take out the bad shoot.. a new head should form.. maybe two or three smaller ones..

.............jiminwisc...........

edit: I called Bob.. he is stopping by later this afternoon to check out the tines.. I think he can do it.. even if he thinks he can't.. LOL

Cool, Raim! Can ya e-mail it to me please?
MLH, how scary! I get dizzy spells alot, especially in the heat or if I push it too hard, so I know how you feel. Sometimes I lose my vision for awhile too. Bad news.
I am very glad you are better & went to the ER right away. Good thing DH was there too. I just wish they could have found the problem. It might have been the heat & overexertion (sp?). At least I hope that is all it is. Do you have a cell phone? You should try to keep it with you always, even if you're just out in the yard.
I had to come in & take a breather myself. Too warm out there.
Jim, I forwarded your tine query to Steve. I know on our stump jumper, he used to weld onto the blades & grind it down instead of buying new ones all the time. For quite a while, we had big rocks in the front & back yard (alfalfa fields) & he used to launch some pretty big ones while mowing. Needless to say, the blades didn't always last very long.
Be careful out there, everyone.

Good thing you didn't pass out in the chicken pen, MLH. Evidently, it is a lot of chicken owners worst nightmare. They even have a thread about it.

Not to make light of your situation, though. I really am concerned for you & hope it doesn't happen again.

I would NOT want to faint in a chicken coop!

"I was doing a little work on the roof of the run with the chicks running around my feet. I had to stop and put my rain boots on because they were pecking the heck out of my ankles and I had a bug bite scab that was attracting far too much attention Now, I know they're just curious little dinosaurs but I swear that if I passed out in there, I'd awake to realize I was missing parts!"
