When we brought our geese home they were in a cage in the back of the truck (open back) standing there necks stretched out looking around. I was practically sitting backwards watching them. Felt like I was in an Aflac comercial !!

Did she hatch them or did you incubate? I've let my silkies hatch out some chicks and they seem so much happier then bator chicks. Either way

Hey everyone,

Just thought I would check on here if anyone is looking for outside cats or indoor cats? The rescue I work with has a lot of great cats that need new homes. Some are feral outside barn cats and some are strays that could go indoors. We only charge $45 and that include shots and spay/neuter. We also have a lot of cat and kittens that aren't listed on the website. If anyone can open your homes to a cat it would be much appreciated! Here is the website that I think looks amazing if I do say so myself.... probably because I run it. LOL! www.FreeRoamingFelineProgram.com

Need some help guys,

As many of you know, I have three production chickens who have been laying regular and getting along. Two weeks ago I picked up a bantam wyandotte from Jerry. She has been a loner and has not layed an egg inthe two weeks. She roosts apart fromthe rest but I have not seen any violence at all. We were gone for the last week on vacation and my kidsfed and watered them. Today, I first checked on them and one of the production chickens has a three inch patch of feathers missing from her back which is kind of bloody looking. They are in a much larger coop and the only other change was the new chicken. What di I do?

PS: I plan mon calling Jerry to see if hewill swap me for a different LF that is laying.

Dooner, she might be laying, just not in your boxes because she doesn't know, she might still be trying to get used to the place, or your gals might be bullying her, either chasing out of the boxes or to the point that she just doesn't feel safe laying. Stress will cause them to stop laying.

As for the wound, the banty might have given her the initial start of it, but any abnormality in any of the hens will draw the attention of the others & get them all to peck at it. Your best bet is to get it covered up quickly. I think people use something called Blue-cote? The red from the blood will just cause them to peck more, so the sooner it's covered, the better.

Sorry to hear of your troubles. 1 banty against 3 standards isn't good odds, esp. if the newcomer is the banty. I'm suprised she wasn't the one who was injured. Maybe you could get a 2nd banty to keep the one company so she's not the "odd man out"? If she had a familiar face to hang around with, the adjustment should be easier for her. HTH.

good afternoon, just got mom watered and settled into her chair, so I have a few moments ..

I worked in the garden again today.. watered 100 gallons.. finish hilled all the potatoes with a rake.. planted some really late peas , cukes and buttercup squash.. and I tilled slight hills in all 14 rows of corn.. I will increase those hills once the corn is a bit taller.. I think I will make a special hiller attachment wings for the tiller.. the ones I have makes too deep of a furrow for corn..

after I got finished, Annie went down and weeded the beets and lettuce.. We both cannot be down there together,, one of us has to keep an eye on Mom..

Annie suggested that next year we move the whole garden up closer to the house.. take a chunk out of the corn field next to the yard.. I have 3 years invested in the existing garden and it gets sun almost all day.. I kind of think it is not going to be moved..

FT,, what is Chucky going to tell me about my tines?? I ordered the new ones this morning.. but I am not throwing the old ones away.. there is a lot of life in them , yet.. If nobody is willing to try welding new edges onto them , I will fire up my welder and give it a try myself.. Or I will cut the bent part of the tips off and bolt new tips on.. they do not have to look pretty, just have to do the job..

Guineas do no good if they are penned up.. gotta bite the bullet and know you are going to lose some of them; and turn them loose.. I don't xactly turn mine loose.. the ones that fly over the fence and coop get to free range.. having some of them in seems to help keep the loose ones from wandering..

I think this is catagorized as "enabling chicken math" LOL

next you will have to get more, to even up the sides.. LOL and then you will need a rooster for them ???

Review:
This product is great! It keeps my chickens from pecking each other after they've already been pecked. I wasn't sure what to expect; and this was way over my expectations.

Also on Amazon, but if you have a TSC, or a feed store close by (I'd call them first), you wouldn't have to wait to have it shipped.
There is an aerosol & a pump spray. I once read how someone used the aerosol on a chick & it later died, possibly from inhaling the fumes, or could have been from it's injury or a combination of the 2? Just so you are aware.

Have used the blue kote spray for picking, works great. They'll really go to town on anything red, just the color of blue kote stops that behavior nicely. The young'ens tried to peck the heck out of the Sicilian buttercup when they were young, she got tiny little wattles a glowing shade of red and the others ran her ragged trying to peck her. She then got purple blush and she was fine.
