Gonna double the number of plants next year. Had my long clothes on to keep the squito's off while weeding yes I broke a sweat. Found a lot more peppers forming along with various other goodies. I have a black raspberry bush by the garage that I use as an indicator for berry pickin their still red but very full looking. It won't be long till ripe. Going to be a good year for them too! L's been under the weather for a couple of days. She said she feels clammy and tired. I told her it was July.

I can be soo mean. But I'm doing a mountain of dishes for her this morning. Would rather be out finishing the weeding. It's been narrowed down to the thermostat on the camper fridge, went on line can't find one so I'll be going to an RV dealer to get one I guess. Fric and Frac had a ball out in the wide wide world yesterday. Only took a little coaxing to get them in the coop. Pecking order was established early and Peatwo kept a very close eye on them. I had to shag them out of the run, they felt safe in there but they started panting in the sun. By the end of the day they were roaming around the back yard, think they'll be OK now but I'll continue coop them in their appartment to keep them from getting picked on in the mornings. A lot to do today again better finish the dishes and get to it! Looks like a stretch of cooler wet weather ahead should be good for the berries and grapes. Have a good one!

I cannot remember who asked, but the ducks that I have are Call Ducks.

Hatch is over: ended up with three babies!

Aren't Iowa blue chicks supposed to be black or dark brown?

Do hatcheries even carry Iowa Blues? I never looked for them so I don't know but I thought they weren't very common?
Any chance some of the chipmunk or yellows are the EE you are missing? I got some EE chicks from Ideal and some are yellow.

Congrats on the duckies !!!

Sorry it didn't go better but keep it up and you'll have a dozen before you know it.

I was reading the new "Storey's guide to raising Ducks" and it says that baby ducks need more Niacin. Just an FYI which you probably already know but just in case. I was surprised to learn that they don't need as high of a protien as I thought as adults. Sure get confusing with all of the different foods.

Don't ya wish the duck eggs would hatch as good as the skeeters ????

Gee FT wonder why your running late? I want you to take this as the joke it's intented to be but one of my favorite sayings is JUST SHUT UP and get in the da$$ truck! Forgot to mention that L said she had a sore throat too. Told her that maybe she should save her voice.

Got the main garden weeded. Didn't think I'd get it done there for a minute WOW it got humid and hot fast! Watching Fric and Frac sitting on the picnic table with"B". Decided their both roo's, tail feathers are coming in nicely and Frac is getting more white on his saddle. Cooling off then back out to get some more broccoli and salad for tonight. Good neighbor Donny stopped over to pick up his freshly sharpened brush blade and brought his wife along. I was weeding and she was eyeballin the garden and said OOO carrots so pulled a bunch for her. Couldn't believe how nice they are already!

The only veggie Donny will eat is potatoes. I tell all the time that he's defective. Back to it!

Morning all, looks to be warm again today.

Had to move a turkey hen late afternoon yesterday and kept her over night in the garage as she was doing poorly but this am looks much better and DH moved her back with the others.... hopefully no other problems as we need each one of the 8 turkeys for fair.

Congrats to TO for the awesome wins she received with her birds- she called me yesterday to share the news

Okay, so a coon actually somehow got my LOCKED coop open last night. I woke up at 3:30 to the sounds of sqawking, ran outside, and came face to face with a big 'ole coon. Except he was inside the run and I was outside it. He dropped the Silkie hen he had, and skeedaddled over the back of the fence. He looked at me for a bit from the shelter of a big pine until I picked up my kids' play slide and chucked it at his face. I went to grab my girl, and she flipped out on me then went limp in my arms. In bringing her back in I looked her over and she was externally fine--no cuts, no broken anything--I'm wondering if it was just the shock.

When I went back out to investigate after I grabbed a flashlight, the rabbit hutch I move in front of the pop door every night was pulled out, and the pop door was ajar. Well, let me tell you--I locked that effer last night. I even went back out to check at about 9:30 to make sure it was locked. It's hinged at the top and I just pull it up every morning and use a stick to prop it open all day. When I put the lock on I sat there for a long time twisting and pulling at it to see if the bar from the cabinet lock I had on it could somehow be pulled out of it's slot. I don't know what that raccoon did, but somehow he got his arm in there and dragged out a Silkie.

I wish I were allowed to swear on BYC.

Re: the Iowa Blue chicks - the ones I got from sandhill were black, chocolate brown, and a couple of the lighter ones were chipmunk looking. Probably not, read "hatchery" and for some reason my brain auto jumped to Sandhill hatchery since it's the only place I've ordered chicks from. LOL. If it wasn't Ideal or Sandhill, no chance they're Iowa Blues. Got Iowa Blue on the brain.

Just changed out the chick TV with my youngest IBs, they are doing fabulous and starting to color up already. Can't wait to see them mature. The older IBs are starting to crow.

And yeah, depending on the mix in the EEs they can look like about anything. My EEs here look like marans chicks at hatch with pea combs and beards because they are F1 Ameraucana x Cuckoo Marans.

Congrats TerriO on the wins. What was the lavender banty DQ'd for? Does the fair not take non-standard colors? I thought chicken shows allowed you to show even if the color wasn't in standard, just in the other-colors/non-standard class. Shrug? Was there anything wrong with the bird other than he is a lavender (self-blue)? On the Ameraucana board they've been lobbying to get the color approved by the APA and ABA and to call it lavender instead of self-blue (and getting flack for it, but they're still fighting). Their qualifying show is being held at the Indianapolis Crossroads show this year, trying to get enough birds showing there to get them approved into the standard (bantam and LF). That little bird of yours is out of show stock from a gal that actively shows her lavender, blue, black, and splash bantam Ameraucanas and is who I got my very pretty silkies from as well. Her and her girls do quite well at shows from what I've read. Anyway, just curious if it was a "we wanted it called self-blue" thing or if there was a DQ fault to the bird. If so I'd like to know what it was so I can learn.
