Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

TO congrats to your daughter, beautiful child and horse!

CC glad to hear Dottie is doing fine.

Carol, your niece is precious.

Cind glad that Duke is doing better!!!

WIC glad you found a good home for Zeus. Was telling my daughter about how beautiful he is yesterday, saw her eyes light up...oh to have more property!

Will have to try to catch up on everything else later, Rod just got up from his nap. Been an exhausting few days here... got Stanley Mutt Mutt's final resting place done.

Had tree trimmers here to tackle the three monsterous Maples in the back yard that must be older than Moses and have never been trimmed. Then spent an afternoon dethatching what grass there is in the back yard and throwing down grass seed. Still have about 2/3 of the back yard to dethatch and replant.

DD and her 4 yr old sun came up Friday night and left this morning. We went over to Lake Geneva yesterday and rented a boat and went for a ride, with "Captain Sponge Bob Squarepants" in charge.

He has recently begun renaming everyone in the family after spongebob characters... His dad is Krabby, Grandpa Jim is Patrick, our Dog is now Gary the Snail... strangely all the names fit the people perfectly!!

Got some worrying news... apparently when DH was in hospital they found a mass on pancreas during CAT scan, he goes back on the 20th of MRI... trying to stay very optimistic, it's tough.

Have a question. DH has agreed to let me have 12 x 12 shed for coop... here's a pic of where it's located.. not sure the location would be good and it has a cement floor, will that be a big problem? As you can see it's pretty close to house and located along a tree line between us and neighbor which might be a problem to, I don't know (as far as critters) would have to insulate and cover studs and add venting, but would save some $$... any thoughts?

You could put the run behind the shed next to the garage, and the trees would probably give them lots of shade. If you didn't have any roosters, I wouldn't think the neighbor would complain, but you better run it by them first.
The concrete wouldn't be a problem as far as the floor goes, I wouldn't think, as long as you had a good healthy layer of shavings on top of it. You could maybe lay a sheet of linoleum on top of the floor if you wanted to soften it up a bit & make cleaning easier. I'm sure you will get plenty of good tips around here.

But that shed would make an awesome coop.

Cute grandson. He's adorable. And you did a beautiful job on Stanley's area. It looks very nice.
So sorry to hear about your DH's results. I hope it isn't anything serious.

that everything turns out okay for your DH. second cool about the shed you get for a coop, the cement floor should be a benefit and would recommend to look into putting down an epoxy coating for easy cleaning. You could divide the inside into a couple of separate pens if you were thinking different breeds down the road. As far as the back of the shed you could make your runs off of that. Last fall we built a 10 x 12 coop and divided the inside into 3 pens and have 3 separate runs outside- we used dog kennel panels that we picked up off craigs list. We covered the run with a black mesh tarp to keep the chickens in. You would probably want to add a couple of windows for light and ventalation as well.

Don't know about the building dk....no windows, and it might be alot more work moving than you are in for? If it's really cheap, maybe? But like the sharks say...I'm out. Sorry

Makin me jelious FT....One thing the eye doc said was don't go shooting a gun.....

Skeet is a ton of fun.

Good to hear everyone is staying busy and having fun. Glad duke is feeling better too.

I'm not positive, but I was thinking the shed is already on the property? If so, it would probably be a lot cheaper to modify it than build a new one? The lack of windows is a definite down side, though, but if you had a fenced-off wall in there like H&R suggests, you could open up the big door for some extra ventilation in the summer. An exhaust fan would be a good idea also. I have used used kennel panels for a run in the past also. They work great, and you can usually find them on CL pretty often.

Keep doing those rain dances, please, folks. We haven't gotten any rain down here yet. But at least we don't have to worry about cutting the grass since everything is such a "lovely" shade of crispy brown....... So exactly why are the darn mosquitoes so bad this year?

I wanted to go pick some raspberries this morning but I can't get anywhere even remotely near them without a beekeeper's suit on for fear of passing out due to blood loss.

1,000 pages. Wow! I wonder what the tally will be by the end of the year?

OOOP's I missed that it is already there. Then with added windows it would work great. Yep, a layer of the bedding of your choice would work well on cement and cleans up easy. I was thinking you had to move the building...sorry again!

Keep an eye on my ability to read celtic, at least there would be one good one then

How about blind in 1 eye and can't see out of the other?

! Of course those 2 days are the days the projects get judge for fair..... wish they would have explained this in the begining and his team is already going to be short 3 players!!! Looks like I'll be running like a chicken with my head cut off.

Working on more 4-H projects this afternoon so that the non-animal ones get done.
Off to help DS(9) take some pictures with the camera.
