Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

good morning, not much to write about here.. Not much to comment about..

I was not expecting to see rain when I woke up.. I thought it was scheduled for this afternoon.. mulching is postponed a bit..

moved a bunch of turkey eggs into the hatcher.. only 3 partial trays of eggs left in the incubator..

I got my ad on the radio again .. FT, while I was at it I asked for a couple of peahens.. We'll see what becomes of that..

the dog is barking, I guess we have company.. hope they brought donuts..

Good morning! Jim--you get company at 9 in the morning? The only company I get that early is the sheriff (or concerned citizen) telling me that my guineas are across the road! The citizens are mostly nice...the sheriff not so much.

So CC about those beetles...DD25 has a birch tree where she works that is just COVERED with them! Does that trap really work? She is afraid that it will attract more beetles. I seem to remember you guys having this discussion not long ago...I am too lazy to look it up! The leaves are really getting skeletonized...it looks terrible. She thinks they will kill the tree...I am just glad that I dont have them here...knock on wood!

Hey Cind...wanna come over and help me put up my fence? I bought it at a rummage sale and have not put it up yet! Really have got to get to it!
I dont know what is going on with my diucklings...one is dead almost every morning! I though that the first one died because it was out of the chainlink and got chilled...then for the last 4 mornings there has been another dead one. No blood--just dead! Weird.
That quail I picked up in Milwaukee is the sweetest thing! She likes to sit with me on the couch while I type! Loves to be petted. I put her in with the other house quail and they did not get along at all! The white one had swollen eyes and either looked like she had been in a fight or hadnt gotten any sleep all night! They are now separated...just what I needed; more cages in this house! I am thinking about putting the white one outside with the rest...or maybe bringing one of the males in. I want some more baby quail! I will have to get a pic of her here on my puter...cam is upstairs...too lazy...

I got sidetracked in a new cookbook this morning. I got it at Blodgett's in Fort when I picked up my 25# bag of finch food. Rainbow Hospice fund-raiser. WHo can resist a cookbook? (not me!) I think I need to list some of my finches on CL...yeah, I think I need to list a BUNCH of birds on CL!!!

Hey Carol--thanks for that link to the tortoise...going to meet the guy in Verona tonight! Pretty excited! So why are all the eggs all over my farm hatching EXCEPT for the ones I want to hatch??? THat would be tortoise and yellow naped parrots...(no--they are not crosses!
lol.png
) Now THAT would be a sight! They probably dont hatch just because I want them to! Cind--I found out where my eggs have been going...I have 4 broodies and a broody duck under the workbench in the room next to the coop! Hmmmm--arent they supposed to stop soon?

OK--I need to get outside if I am going to cook food tonight for dinner...lots of new recipes to try! I sure have a craving for potato pancakes...man I am hungry!
Stay dry! (great boomers last night hey?) Terri O

good mid-day, If there were BOOMERS last night, I slept through them.. we had a good amount of rain, though..

Annie had to take Ken to the Dr so I am stuck here.. boring.

It looks like the rain is going to pass in a little while.. I might haul a load of stale hay down to the garden.. If it is not too muddy, I can carry it by hand to the plants.. I hate to do it, but I might have to spray the kale.. maybe hit just the outer leaves and try to avoid the edible parts..

I have to read back and figure out when my quails hatched.. They should be getting close to egg laying age.. 8 weeks..
or maybe I am pushing it a bit.. ??

I would like to get the lawn mower out.. I would like to clean up around the edge of the garden a bit.. find all the stones that Annie threw out of the garden into the long grass.. Thanks Annie.. She piles up the weeds she pulls instead of spreading them out.. Nothing I like better than to hit that carpet of weeds with the tiller.. after 45 years, do you think I can change her ways?? NOPE !!!!! If she doesn't straighten out, I am not going to allow her to pull weeds anymore.. LOL

I had one call about a peahen from my radio ad.. I just have to wait until the people can catch or trap it.. she was not even sure if it is a hen.. No matter, I will still take it..
I will have to fix up the covered dog kennel for sure, now..

T O , at our age , company comes at just about any time of day or night.. It was Sally. she was in my homeroom in highschool.. Annie tried to call her a couple of times and got no answer.. so Annie got a bit worried and called Sally's daughter..
the 7 year old granddaughter answered the phone and told Annie that Grandma was gone to play BINGO.. LOL

I just heard this joke from my neice.. I am going to pirate it.. but Jenny gets the credit for it..

A very very old man was walking down the sidewalk with his cane..

He spied a frog on the ground..

The frog said,"If you pick me up and kiss me I will turn into a beautiful young princess and be yours forever."

the old man's reaction was shock!! "WHAT ??"

The frog repeated , "If you pick me up and kiss me, I will turn into a beautiful young princess and be yours forever.".

The old man picked up the frog and put it into his bib overall pocket..

the frog stuck it's head out of the pocket and said, "Well, aren't you going to kiss me?"

to which the old man replied,, "Nope, at my age, I would much rather have a talking frog.."

Thank you Jim/Jenny for the laugh of the day!

Made my eyes water. So true so true! My personal experience is that company comes when I'm just about to start drooling during my nap.

Then they wonder why I'm so crabby. Outlets are wired and covered. Didn't even go ZZITTT POOF once. Gettin luckier I guess. Cuc's will be ready for the jars in about an hour trying to decide whether to go out and work on the chain saw stuff or have some lunch and wait for company [nap]. After sitting here think the later will apply. TO when I read that tort/par it reminded me of the Isle of Dr Morreau. Spl?

Checking in. I do read a good portion of the posts, though don't always have time to post replies.

Will love to come to the southern bash, have no idea which date (if either) I'd be able to make. Waaaay too far away for me to know my schedule. However if the date is set, I'm more likely to hold that date open if possible.

The park I had mentioned was the one in Mukwonago. It's right in town, but has all the amenities as far as shelters, etc. They have huge flea markets and other events there when I've driven by. Have no idea on fees or anything.

If the horse people are looking for a place, the horse park south of Palmyra has access to all kinds of trails, but again, don't know the costs. Someone let me know when the date/place is set. I'll try to make it. Hopefully either get DH to come along (yeah, right) or have him watch one or both boys so I can hopefully get to talk to a few people. Didn't get to do much beyond chase the boys at the last bash. LOL

Will have a variety of young cockerels if anyone wants any and have some lavender bantam eggs and Ameraucana x ?? EE eggs in the incubator currently, so may have some young EEs and/or bantys for the bash as well. If someone wants corn snakes, could bring a couple along as well.

Let's see, pups should be around 9 weeks old by the 1st, so I may bring along Aussie pup(s) if I hold any back. We'll see what we get. Nothing cuter than Aussie pups between 6 and 12 weeks of age.

Seriously tempted by the Welsh Harlequin ducks in that ad...

Some of our fruit trees had them on and we used the liquid form of the Sevin on the trees- started falling off within a few minutes.

Finished up a batch of dill pickles and now working on processing the pickled onions- have 10 pints to water bath process. DD went to a friends house to sleep over so the 2 boys are watching a movie they picked out at the library. Working on paper work while waiting for the water bath to boil- can't watch it or it will never get done

raining again here so probably won't get anything done outside..... didn't get the green beans picked yesterday so they will probably be huge.

wink.png

we are hoping to make it and boy would my 5 year olds love to play with little pups! of course then they will continue to beg for one... we told them another year and then a dog...
Hoping that they will be happy with the chickens as pets for that long. But dd is animal crazy.

Raining....again! I just knew if I washed my car and watered the garden the other day this would happen! Well, we sure needed it...DD19 texted me--she is having one of those really bad, no good, horrible days I guess. She left her windows open last night and her ipod and the inside of her car got wet, forgot to feed the horses (Mom to the rescue) and the FedEx man got to her work early and didnt wait for the package she wanted to send today...man, I wish I had those little problems...

Here is my newest acquisition:

She seems to be of a more brownish color than the ones I got from SF. More "mousy" I would describe it as. The other ones are golden and reddish. She was happy to hang out on my keyboard. I was introducing her to mealworms...she got the idea pretty quickly! Speaking of mealworms...now that it is much warmer lately they are multiplying pretty quickly! I started another container today...soon I will be able to feed them to the chickens as treats too. The buttons LOVE them. I just have to go to the cage and say "wormies!" and they come running!

Jim I already heard that joke...darn. Not going to meet the tortoise tonight...his wife reminded him that he has an eye appt at 5:30. Maybe on Friday we will get together. Oh--the sun is out! I might have to go and look for a rainbow...I havent seen one yet this summer.
Didnt get much of anything accomplished today except for making a delicious lunch for myself! I made a new recipe from the book for supper and had to have some with lunch too. "Creamy Lentils ans Rice." MMMM--ad supper I will actually add the creamy part--was pretty darn good without though!

H&R--I will tell her about the Sevin stuff but I think they dont want to use any chemicals because of the daycare there.
Cant recall who posted the link with the Arabian horses but I told my friend and she is looking for a pasture mate for her gelding...sent her the link so maybe?

Later--Terri O--going out to look for that rainbow.

ETA: Connie--PLEASE leave the puppies at home!!!! (unless of course they are all spoken for--then I can handle it!)
