Hey TO, can you email me the EEE artitcle please?

Well, survived another road trip. Took Butt Dog down to Birnamwood for her teeth cleaning, extractions and sweat gland (body tag type0 things removed. Almost choked when I got the bill. $200 more then I had planned on !!

She is quite the trooper. Poor Poor Butts. She has 1" long cuts all over her back from the tag removals. They were all real tiny except that big one on the top of her head. They all have stitches. They must have to go down deep to remove more then just he tag???

They said she wouldn't probably eat until today. Well they don't know me and my dog. FOOD is the answer !!!! We stopped for ice cream on the way home and She inhaled almost a full scoop of mine !!!
Then I had some left over cheese curds from lunch and she managed to eat about 2 of those. Reminds me of when I had a tooth pulled a few years ago. It felt so good to have it pulled I stopped at taco bell on the way home and ate a taco !!!

I told Butts I would buy her something while I was in Wausau. So I bought her several cans of ORANIX brand dog food at Petco that was marked $1.00 off each can. Still $2.00 a can but she's worth it !!
love.gif
Then I got her a new little red scarf with small white bones on it. She looks great with it. And then I got her one of those cot type beds. It has the accordian type frame and has a canvas type cover. Almost like a hammock? I thought she would like it when she is outside and I am monkeying around, then she doesn't have to lay on the cool lawn or hot lawn. She is 11 now so she needs to be pampered !!!
Got it all on clearance. Found out what I paid for the bed on Clearance was just a few bucks cheaper then I could have gotten it at Jeffers regular price. Gotta LOVE

those pet store prices.

Met up with Hangin Wit My Peeps that lives down that aways. Had Lunch and talked chickens !! What else !!!
lau.gif
Picked up some boxes that had styrofoam boxes inside and cooler pack from someone on CL in Wausau. She gets her daughters growth hormone drugs in them once a month. I am going to use them to ship my eggs. I was lining my boxes with styrofoam so now I won't have to buy the stryofoam. And DH ET won't have to cut it for me.

Now today, a short road trip to Mole Lake to meet up with the guy I'm buying the chick feed from. Saving about $2 a bag. He went out of town and his mother was watching the chickens. Came home and a predator got all of the birds. So he is getting out of them for now.
So hopefully no more road trips for me for a while. Oh, when I backed up yesterday I heard some scrapping under my car. Looks like a cover on my muffler or ???? is falling off, not the muffler itself. So needless to say I couldn't do any backing in fear of it ripping completely off !!! SH!T if it ain't one thing it is a couple of a dozen of another.

Sorry for all of the chicken losses on here, can't recall who it was right not. AAAaaaDddAADDDD here !!

Love that white peachick. They are really stunning when they are adults though . I emailed someone in the Madison CL and no reply yet. I need or should I say want a peahen. If I get chicks I won't know what I'm getting. My luck all Cocks then I'll need more hens etc ...................
barnie.gif

I would love a pet cow but then I don't think I could ever eat beef again !!! As it is now I"m eating alot more tuna and beef.

Well, I'm a mental dead head today not to mention my neuropathies in my arms are killing me from all the driving lately.
old.gif
Gotta go do chicken chores then meet up with the food guy.

Jim, you can't stay up late and I can't get up early !!!! What a pair hey?
hugs.gif

Do enjoy the nice weather !! I know I am going to !!!

Happy Birthday Raiaquee, To be 26 again !!! I"m twice your age plus 1 yr !!! Gosh at 26 I was having the time of my life !!! MEMORIES !!!!! Have a beautiful Day !!

OH TO Nevermind you don't have to send it to me. My sister already did. Glad I got mine vaccinated 2 weeks ago. (Was a booster for all but the one donkey, He'll need a booster an a few weeks)

Stopping by while I wait about 10 mins for my laundry to get done and ready to hang on the line... fresh linens on the beds tonight - and great sleeping weather - who can ask for more!? I found a site online that has Indian Blue Peafowl for 90.00 a pair. I didn't think that was too bad so I emailed them. Won't be getting them.. it will cost 75.00 to ship the pair and they are only chicks!! What the??? I know it doesn't cost that much to ship chicks (baby chickens).... so what gives?

FT - I bet we emailed the same person about the peachick - no reply here either. It was for a pied and they are not sure of gender correct? Here is an ad for some up north of Minneapolis/St Paul if anyone is up that way... http://minneapolis.craigslist.org/ank/grd/2522796986.html - good prices too! Way too far for me to drive though, sadly.

Well here is the progress of the shed-coop as of right now. I just went out and got some pictures of it. Hubby had to run to get some calf feed so he is also picking up more staples for the staple gun. We are using them to secure the chicken wire inside the coop.

Here is the shed - the clothes line is going to be moved as this is the way the runs will go because there is trees to the right more, the run will go under the trees for shade.

The duck portion - or part of it... the 2x4 I moved up to the top of the wire after I took this photo. Makes more sense!
smile.png

This is going to be a built in brooding box/chicken recovery area. The top of the board is going to be shellacked so that it is easy to clean. We are going to extend 2x4 up and such and it will be enclosed with wire. This needs to be done before Sunday - as that is when my eggs in the bator are due to hatch. They go on lockdown tomorrow! To the left is the chicken area, to the right is the exit.

View from outside looking in. The front portion is my storage area, the next is the chicken area and the small section in the back is for the ducks.

Another view where it isn't so dark.

Nesting boxes - thank you everyone who helped with the advice on the design. We ended up doing Dido cuts. The back will have an access door to each level and I can get the eggs from the back.

So that is where we are at. I am debating on getting a paint sprayer and painting in there - but I highly doubt I will get that motivated. We plan to place a window opposite of the one that is currently there and we are also putting in 3 fans to help move air. The fans I would like turn and you can either run them blowing in or you can do it so they blow air out.

Well, laundry is done - off to hang it up and get more going. Then I need to mop... blech!

good AM< Idon't know what a cottonwood is.. but poplars have branches drying up all the time and then they fall off..

I took my "new" belt to F&F and had the guy measure it,, then I bought one from there an inch longer.. $7 compared to $27 for the "part" belt.. can we say, "rip off" boys and girls ??

I bought 2 packages of pins and modified one of them for the height adjustment linkage .. the original pin was too long and it touched the v-belt .. thus helping to wear out the belt so the belt people can sell more belts..?? Anyhooo , the mower is ready to go.. I have it on the battery charger.. Nothing llike choking it off 1000 feet from the house and have the battery go dead..

My daughter saw some white peafowl at a petting zoo.. she was really impressed with them.. I can only imagine what the white peacocks look like.. prolly like a bouguet of baby's breath flowers..

..........jiminwisc..........

Anyone near Casco that wants a 2 yr old peahen? Guy emailed me back and said $45 bottom line. He said color is emerald Green ??? Never heard of one that color !!! Weird

Dornes, Nice, very nice. Especially when there aren't any chicks or chickens in it yet !!! CLEAN !!!

Per TO---Yup, MLH was telling the truth! There are videos of hen racing! It is pretty funny. You can tell the ones that were actually taught what to do. I think it would be a blast to have a competition sometime. I cant figure out if they are really serious or if it is just a fun "tradition" that they started in the dead of winter. You know those British, cant ever tell with them!

See-told you so!! And here you thought I was being funny for no apparent reason!! Dh insists it would be easy to get a group together and hen race. It would be easy to train a hen to race. That is what meal worms were invented for! I had a hen, Muffy, who was banned from the "walk the plank" game that the kids played at the chicken shows. Out of 15 heats, she only lost one race. Like the great Man-o-War! Ben her "handler" would set her on the plank and walk to the other end and hold a meal worm out. After the first
time, Muffy understood exactly what was required and she would run to the other end of the blank. She also was the only hen not to jump off the board. She eventually got disqualified because the judges thought her races were fixed.
I'd love to hen race. That would be a hoot and a half. Dh emailed the World Hen Raging Association to find out of they have a US chapter.....he has yet to hear back.....
Both he and I thought up the names. I named the Henmont and Cackle Club. He named the rest.

Jim-I'm game to make a guinea division in Hen Racing. After all they race mules and Appaloosa's!

Dornes-cool coop!! Can I move in? It's nicer then my house!

Raiq-Happy Birthday! I remember 26-kinda...

FT-glad Butt Dogs appointment went well! Sounds like she scored with all the goodies for her! A dogs only fault is that they don't live forever....

Gae-I think you need to talk to Deedles friends parents about what horrible influences that are on her!!

H&R-Beautiful peachick! I love white peacocks. I think they are the prettiest of all peacocks. I bet your DS could show the peabird. I've seen ornamental game birds at chicken shows/poultry shows. IT's not common but all that really is holding him back would be if the venue allows game birds on site for shows.....the place our chicken club held our shows did, so we had a few guys bring there ornamentals in for show. Tons of fun!

kristi- I'll send you a PM...

TO-I did remember what I was going to tell you! Or at least what I want to say!! Now I can't remember if it was you! LOL!!!! Were you the one who thought your Phoenix was not a Phoenix and posted a pic of the bird? The golden duckwing rooster?

Well, I'm sure I missed something....I've gotta go do some chores..... I'm behind.....I had a contractor over for a coop estimate and had to call Charter
sickbyc.gif
because my Avast security system updated my firewall and un-enabled Charter access to my computer!- I knew I liked Avast! Smart Avast! Good Avast! Here! Have a cookie! LOL!!!!!

Dornes- I love the new coop- did you buy the shed already or do from scratch? If from scratch, did you have plans? We have talked about future growth and starting with a garden shed and going from there... always curious and I love the thought of expanding down the road. WHo knew that chickens would be so addictive. But it also helps that we have so many neighbors, friends and family that want to buy eggs from us. So Dh sees the purpose in them, along with the fairly ease of care that they have for the kids... and how much my 5 year old dd is in love with each and every one of them.

I dont know who else said it, but thank goodness for dried meal worms. It helps us round the girls up when we need to pen them in when they are our wandering and also encourages them, even the meaner one, to love us a little bit for that treat. They have to take from our hand and let us pet them when they take it. Works great for breaking new gals in to the coop.

Say who did Carol acquire the lovely bran damaged buff silkie from??? She has since gifted it over to me and it has become a lap chicken for dd. Wondering how old she is as she never has laid for us. But we love her!!

There will be a Poultry Show in Galesville WI first weekend in June 2012. A new club, Coulee Region Poultry Club, is taking over the show that used to happen in Richland Center on the same date.

Advice for newbies in the show management area? Interest in knowing more, or my blogging the progress?

Happy Birthday!!! I will be 26 next month.
smile.png

Kristi - the shed is actually a prebuilt one from Menard's. You can find it on their website. We have been using it as a garden shed for the last 7 years and it really wasn't holding anything that had to do with a garden or the lawn for that matter. most of it was trash and the rest belonged in hubby's tool box in the other shed. So we cleaned it out and drug it across the yard and that is where we are at. I got the wire put on the duck portion today, and then it got way too hot in there, really gonna need some ventilation! I will work on the chicken portion tomorrow and then the brooding portion tomorrow afternoon. Here's to hoping there is a good hatch....
