Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Ya know BigZ...I FORGOT to plant my beets this year! I planted the variety for the greens that dont develop the tubers but totally forgot (and I ran out of space) to plant the others...guess it's prob too late
sad.png
I did get a bunch from my friendly farm stand...this guy is in his 90s and sells his produce to supplement his SS. He has the BEST stuff! Everything is cleaned and table-ready...even the carrots! Tomorrow I am going to take him some of my compost...maybe he will have some beets to trade?

I did get my book back from the library last week. They glued it all up just like new and didnt charge me a cent! Wasnt that nice of them? Of course I have paid so much in fines that they probably should name a wing after me....LOL!

I looked up lizards and here is a link for those interested: http://dnr.wi.gov/eek/critter/reptile/lizardsOfWisconsin.htm It is very easy to read and would be great for you homeschoolers! Did you know that 2 species of WI lizards stay with their clutch of eggs just like a hen? They even heat up their body temperature if they believe the eggs are too cold!

I just made myself some scrambled eggs with a little zucchini and some tomato from the garden--MMMM! Oh yeah, I took soem pics of that gigantic block of tomato plants...and a really cool spider too! Here is DD25s BF showing how big the plants are...they tower over my head!

Here is the Orb Spider. She has been living there the whole season. I have been watching her get bigger and bigger and bigger...
46457_img_3864.jpg

A view from the other side...see, I think I need to expand my space If I want to continue growing all the stuff that I like!
46457_img_3868.jpg

And here is the Hibiscus (I call it Stuart's bush in memory of him!) It is continuing to bloom like mad! I pick off 3-4 flowers every day to feed to the tortoises. They only last one day and are sooo pretty!

Well then--I bet you guys are mad that I found my camera at last!

but I am really happy!

getting dark, time to go back outside and lock up! Oh yeah...anyone got additional lighting on yet? I was thinking that it must be getting to that time again...

Sweet dreams...Terri O

ETA: Yup--time for lights...today we had 13 hours, 30 minutes and 10 seconds of daylight.

hi all, The lady brought the cockatiel for Ken's birthday present today.. that old grump.. I felt like telling her to take it along back home with her.. well if he doesn't want it I will keep it.

I let her take all the guinea keets she wanted for the cockatiel.. she took only a half dozen "for the cage".. the bird showed up on her horse fence a few weeks ago.. she advertised and checked around, but couldn't find anybody who lost it.. she said that she held out her hand and it jumped right on..

I don't know how much these birds cost, but I don't think they are cheap.. she was pretty sure it is a female..

the birds were hard to chase in tonight.. I had to call for Annie to come out and help, and then it was still no fun.. the guineas were especially hyper..

nice tomatoes TO>. reminds me of the song,, You say tomato, I say maters,, you say potato, I say taters, -----

Brent, those plants don't come by the dozen, Baggies is the most common way of transport..

I love beets too, no, not beet stew, beets also... melt some butter on them and watch out !!!

Hey Jim, that bird could out live you !! I have a cockatiel that is about 20 yrs old and going strong. I also have a parrot that is gosh let me think, between 30 and 40 yrs old ??? I'll have to look that up !!!
I can tell ya next time I come visit if it is a male or female. That is of course if it is the normal gray colored cockatiel. The pieds and pearls are a bit harder to tell.
So ya got some poor kids bird !!!

Oooppss gotta go I think I might have a loose guinea keet. Perched on the edge of the brooder box. Might be time to cover it hey ??? They are so darn cute. I think I might have to get guinea diapers and have them running around the house !!!

Hey Jim the lady with the bird, was she from Winneconne????? This story sounds VERY familiar to me........

TO LOVE your spider! My kids would be feeding it...... and I had a friend at the Dirty Girl Run today; I think he was filming his GF. You can plunk your beet seeds in the ground yet I would think......

FINALLY getting some tomatoes!
ya.gif

WcC; you don't like USC????? They have been wonderful to us since we switched: ANYBODY was better than that cell phone company out of Wisconsin Rapids that I will not mention by name......
big_smile.png

BigZ, I think your Amish neighbors are the same ones who supply our Aurtion houce with baked goodies on occasion. They ride down with one of the guys who works for the Auction House.

Nothing new to report here. Two broodie ducks who keep stealing each other's eggs so we have eggs at multiple stages of development under both ducks.......... I'll get it all straightened out before they hatch.

I was asked by my co-workers to teach them how to make soap. Since I have to brush up on my knowledge and I wanted to try some other natural dyes, I found out WHY the coffee soap does NOT smell like coffee: it would have been helpful if I had mixed the grounds in with the hot lye solution before adding it to the oils. The smell would not have been strong at all but there would have been much more of a coffee 'presence' in the final product. The rose....... I still have no ideas on that one...... just chalk it up to not enough essential oils I guess. I do thank all of you for being my test subjects! Feedback is welcome as well!

Ok, off to bed. I get to sleep in for once.

OK... I'm here.
Still tired, got maybe 2 hours of sleep then young son came over and woke me up!
hmm.png
I love seeing him but timing sucked!

WCc... I had USC until we moved ... Out here I had to stand in the back yard and hope I didn't get dropped! I have "Straight Talk" from Wally World now and it seems to be fine.

CC.... Know what you mean about the roos! My girls would just as soon they be in a pot! I have a couple of feisty girls that will turn on them and chase 'em off! The younger ones thy were brought up with will "hang" with them tough. My pears have been dropping before they get that big!!
he.gif
I've had some split on the tree too
barnie.gif
Hope the rest for you are that good!

Jim... Glad your roo showed up! You made quite a deal with that bird too! The cockatiles run about $50 but the cages ... a small cheap one used could run $75! Ken was being a grump?

DrH... you could always claim you took it (the corn) away from some sneaky raccoons!
wink.png

Robin... Hope it went great w/ the folks!

BigZ... I love beets too!

TO... Love the garden! I was going to mention the "space" in FT garden too! Where are all her weeds?
lau.gif
I've been turning on the coop lights before supper and closing them up about 8pm. I want to talk my son into putting the lights on a timer. I got a boat load (well about 20) of timers at a rummage sale for .50 each. Brand new! Some were even digital and some were for multiple units. He worked for the company and had a bunch of samples left.

BL4.... LOL... I forgot about the soap! I put it away to age and forgot all about it! Well, if it didn't smell as much as you hoped I'm sure it will still do the job! It seemed to have set well.

I picked my first tomatoes too! No more coons in the tomato patch! I put up a fence around the garden again.... it's kinda wobbly and I think that discourages them from trying to climb it. And of course there's Ruddy! Now I just got to fight the weeds for them!

The broody may give up. When I went to close she hopped up on the roost. By the time I was done with chores she went back down to them but it took a while for her to go back on the nest. If she doesn't set no big deal, it was weird she sat at all! Did I mention Jasmine is laying eggs again? Yup, she must figure the kids are grown up!

Got a bit more work to do then off to bed! Need sleep!

Almost forgot this! (Stole it from Face Book)

LIFE BEFORE THE COMPUTER ... Memory was something you lost with Age ... An Application was for Employment ... A program was a TV show ... A Cursor used profanity ... A Keyboard was a piano ... A Web was a spider's home ... A Virus was the Flu ... A Hard Drive was a long trip on the road ... A Mouse was something the Cat chased ... And if you had a "" 3 INCH FLOPPY "" ... Well, YOU just hoped NOBODY found out! LOL

Good Morning All! Cind I kinda figure with the $30,000 damages to the house from the flooding because of THEIR ditch they won't mind me getting a little compensation. Jim maybe the bird will grow on Ken or maybe not
hu.gif
TO that's one way to get away from weeding your garden, just don't give them a spot to grow
lol.png
Sererated F&F this AM gotta go get the water warmed up.
roll.png
Maybe after their gone Peatwo will use the roost instead of a nest box. It's so funny when I go to close em up. I do a head count then say Peatwo? Burr Burr Burr is all I get
lau.gif

good morning, Yeah, Ken is talking to the bird now.. but he didn't have to be such a pr!($k when the nice lady was here. He can be so rude when he wants to.. and he is the first to point out other peoples' short comings..

the cockatiel is quite white..

the lady told us that they can live 20 years.. You are quite correct, it could easily outlive us ..

BL4, the bird lady is from rural Merrill..

Annie decided to let the chicken cluck raise the guineas she is hatchng..Nothing in the CTV at all for a change..

Nobody showed up to look at the ducks yesterday. can you say No-Show boys and girls ?? . one lady emailed me and said she was coming of Sunday or Monday to look at the turkeys..

............jiminwisc...........

The broody Ancona hatched 9 fluffies. They are all pure Anconas! I'm a little stunned. She musta really loved that roo. God rest his jerky soul, and tenderize his bones in my crockpot.
lol.png
Honestly lost count now; holy chicken math, Batman!

Terri, noonish sound good?

Good morning...Yes noon is fine for a visit. I have to go to a baby shower around 4 or so. It's for one of my 4H kids. I am typing with a nitrile glove on...dam^ parrot got my forefinger this AM as I was giving him a peanut! I thought he had it and he dropped it--guess I didnt get out of the way fast enough! They dont get one today!
smack.gif
and he is putting up a fuss for sure.

Just took a little break here for dishes...I cleaned out my fridge and filled the chicken bucket so not there are a ton of LO containers to wash...guess I still dont have the hang of cooking for 2 or 3! DD and her BF are making Home made pizza for lunch they said...better clean up is all I have to say! I wonder if I could throw together a quick GF crust and they could make me one too?? HMMMM--it's a thought, I havent had pizza since January!

Last night was 'Gator Fest at Crawfish Junction. It musta been held outside cause I could hear the band (even the words) very clearly when I went outside! I was thinking about taking the horse down there...if I still had my mare I would have...my gelding is not so good in crowds.
The woman for the ducks called this morning...she is coming tomorrow instead. I hadnt heard from her so I didnt catch up the female laying ducks I am selling to her. I hate catching them in the day...especially with all the mud! DrH you have given me hope and encouragement...if you can cull roos that you have raised from babies then so can I! I think I will wait until September/October and then take care of it. (when the flies are less) I cannot overwinter all these birds for sure.

OK--my break is done...better get back to those dishes! Terri O
