would have loved to see a vid of the guinea roundup. Yep, your next post proved you're ready to part w/that incubator!

I don't think peacock sounds are annoying either.. I'm with you on bird sounds!

TO I have to ask, what the heck is the Dirty Girl race??? Oh, nevermind, the photos did a good job 'splain' it. I for one, am glad you found your camera! Lovely garden!

CC what do you do with paw paws? I've heard of them, just don't know what you DO with them.

H&R hope your marans recovers.

Amy congrats on the hatch!

Tiki, how I wish I had my coop done (or even started for that matter!), I'd love those chickens!

I'm taking the rest of the afternoon off (except for touching up the birdcage I spray painted yesterday), been working my behind off for two days... spent nearly 4 hours yesterday and a good hour plus today power washing Lord knows how many years of dirt and mildew off the back patio. Sat down for a couple of minutes today to take a break before I started on the flower bed and wouldn't you know...deer wandered through. How do they know when I'm out without my camera????

Got the day lilies and some phlox transplanted from the neighbors fence line (the ones she didn't spray weed killer on anyway.. that woman and her posions!!!) along w/the phlox I bought cheap, dont' look like much right now, but should look good next year.

Tomorrow if it's nice (and it doesn't rain today) I'll put the second coat on all the trim I painted Friday. And then I want to build a little box and make it look like a little house to go over the well pump that sticks up next to the house, I HATE looking at that thing. Of course doing that requires I use the .... power saw....GASP! HOw hard is it to use with your fingers curled into your hands I wonder

I'm hoping to have everything DONE before DH gets home Thursday, so maybe, just maybe I can start on the chicken coop. Only help I really want from him is getting the sheathing up on the ceiling, otherwise I can do it and be done 3x's sooner! I get so frustrated working on projects with him, once I get going I want to go and he always wants to take breaks.

Well, off the spray the little birdcage and then RELAX (we'll see how long I can manage that before thinking of something I have to do)
Have a great afternoon all!

Wow I even got my DH excited about my chickens today... we were daydreaming at Menards! We saw this awesome little shed that we cant really afford right now for a potential chicken future chicken coop...

http://www.menards.com/main/p-1669097-c-9485.htm
It has rain gutters you could run into a rain barrel or such for an extra chicken waterer and it has a small shed in the back attached to hold food and supplies in a garbage can etc.
Add the run we have on our current coop to this and it would be perfect! But $1000... little much for a coop right now. Does menards ever clearance their sheds out?

Otherwise we have had a busy weekend with our basement finally being finished and now moving furniture and painting and getting Ds5 room ready by his birthday party in a week and then DD5 will have her own space so we need to fix that up to. Kids fight too much with sharing a room so need their own space. And birthday party with 40 friends and family labor day weekend and starting school the Friday before that. Phew... exhausted thinking of all the stuff I have to do!
off to go work some more! laters

Rainy Afternoon All.... Happy to hear that their are a bunch of beet fans out there besides me!

Glad you were able to get the standard fixed for free TO

Easy does it on the bindings now....

Sounds like having a horse is awful pricey....how many $3.50 bales does one horse eat a year? Some of you have quite a few hay burners, eh? Prolly need a job to afford the horse. I'll stick to feeding chickens, that's bad enough. Sure is alot of horse folks though.
Must all have more money than me. I wonder how many $10 twelve packs I suck a year? Horse is prolly cheaper....

My little blue ameraucana cockeral is getting into trouble...he's always going into the big coop and after the older women when they are in the nests laying eggs. I'm hands on all the time, and hear this familiar sound and have to go remove him from the nest and carry him down to the house with reminders of his actions....he's quite the talker, manfriendly as can be...little squirt....might be a good name for him. Might call him percy too. Quite the relentless one!

Again I have RIR, EE, OE, BLK Ameruacana, Silkie, Bantam Turken, and ??????? what else. Ramiel I PM'd you yesterday I think.

Wanna take Ralph!? LOL I also have an extra Bl Wheaten roo I may let go to the right home

He's VERY nice and loves to ride on your arm to the mail box

Think I'd stand a better chance finding homes if I named them all?

Oh and Bigzio, I spend over double feeding my chickens, ducks, geese & guineas then I do on 6 horses, 3 donkeys and now 1 pony ! Makes me wish I never got them - the chickens that is- kinda like kids !!But once you have them you'll never give them up !!

Can't imagine life without them

Deb, pawpaws are also known as the "Hoosier banana" because their taste is very similiar to the banana, at least some varieties. I've heard of a few varieties & they differ in taste & color when ripe. My trees have not produced any fruit yet, so I cannot tell you with certainty what they actually taste like, but I have 2 different varieties & am hoping at least one of them tastes good. Otherwise, chicken food! I have read that you can use them like bananas in recipes, & can even make wine with them. We shall see.

Kris, nice looking coop! Too bad the writeup is severely lacking in details. I had a bunch of questions but my mind just went completely blank. What a suprise there........

If anyone ever gets a super friendly black australorp or orpington rooster that they want to rehome, please keep me in mind. I'm not fussy on the orp color.

CC thanks for the info on pawpaw's, they've had me wondering for years, but I've never known anyone that ever tried one! But then there are lots of things out there that I'd love to try if I knew what to do with them! LOL
