Bummer with not being able to part with the cockerals Tiki....maybe since Jim wants to cut back on some hatching, everyone could send their extra cockerals to Jim's cockeral haven. Just think Jim....you wouldn't have to run the bators.....in fact ...no collecting eggs....just run the plucker, buy freezer bags and eat chicken nuggets!

I know you love that idea!

thanks bigzio! As far as I am concern it could be either a boy or a girl and I would be happy! For my kids sake I hope it is a girl, that way the boy can be more colorful like they were hoping for..... either way it will be just fine

we found a website that was recommended over in the peafowl section, DNA Solutions which has a website: DNAsexing.com and it explains the 2 ways they can tell what a bird is. For 1 sample it was $19.90. We are hoping to hear something maybe later this week.

a sample of what ?

either feathers or a drop of blood, the website gives a good explantation of what they require to run the test.

Good evening! It is certainly amazing how much one can accomplish when the computer is OFF!

I have decided that I can no longer hang out on here cause I get nothing done...and my place shows it too! So now tonight I am very tired...but satisfied that I did a whole day's work. (and then some!)
BigZ--I am anxious for the Buckeyes and the Blue Ameracaunas to start laying...nothing yet! I am wondering if the ones in the barn do not have enough light? Are you supplying yours with additional light now? My laying flock has their timer on now for a week already and they are laying pretty good. I just was thinking that lack of light might be a problem for those young birds.

I didnt read back too far tonight--only 4 pages I think...I will have to try and catch up tomorrow. I am thinking that I will only come on in the evening now...otherwise I am on until 11AM!

Sweet dreams all--I hope everyone is enjoying this gorgeous weather we are having! NightyNite! Terri O

You'll never change, Jim.

Well, I had a very pleasant suprise when I went out to the coop this morning. There were 5 eggs out there.

4 pullets and one big one. Looks like my non-production reds finally got the message & decided to start earning their keep again.

I can only hope the trend continues. And so far I've had an egg a day out of each pullet for 3 days, I think? One was broken the other day, though, but I can't complain too much. They're doing a great job.

I hear you, TO, on staying off the computer. I get so much more done in a day too, but then I get tons more to read per day also. Can't win.
DH & I took a beautiful ride in the Kettle Moraine not far from here yesterday, just a quick hour ride. We saw a doe & her fawn cross the road. Just beautiful. And it got pretty cool, so we pulled over to put on our jackets & take a quick look around. Guess what we saw? The woods were completely loaded with that darn buckthorn! It was everywhere, and they were loaded to the hilt with berries! Oh, and did I mention that our one neighbor, who wants "to keep his yard natural", has a yard completely filled with box elders, p*ss elms and buckthorn???????

I give up........
Gotta hit the hay. Sweet dreams, all!
