Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Good morning all. What news Dornes! Fires just freak me out...I always get a bit nervous when putting new hay in the barn because of the possibility of fire. A couple bales I opened yesterday were pretty warm. DD19 is good at spotting them though and we leave them on the floor instead of elevating them up. I am praying for the best for your neighbors (and you!)

Well, I got my rain last night...the wind was something else too. The big elm on the corner of the windmill cracked in two and half of it is in the yard. Looks like it hit the pear tree and took some of that down along with it. Good news is that our gazebo is still standing!

That was all I could think about last night during the rain. Our power went out with the first lightening and was off for a few hours but back on early. Sure got hot without the fan going! I havent been out to see what other damage happened in the yard...figure I need at least a cup of coffee first!

H&R--your little son is going to be very happy that you are laid up for a bit! He has a built in playmate now! Maybe you will get really good at Wii so you can beat the other kids? You might just start hobbling around in self defense!

Gotta send this computer is dying! TErri O

Whew! Just in time...DH stole my power cord again and I had to get it back! If I would touch his stuff...OK--I wont get into that here!

DH says we are waking our kids and other assorted people that are here and have them haul branches...cant wait for the moaning and groaning to start! The goats will be happy--more branches and leaves to eat!

I am wondering if carol will get here today? Those chicks I got for her from Amyable when she was here are no longer cute little fuzzballs! THe guineas either for that matter...they really need to get out of there--it is too little for that amount of birds! Besides, I have quail due to hatch next week

I tried an experiment with letting a hen sit on quail eggs...didnt work

she was too heavy or clumsy. Broke most of them! I might try letting some pigeons sit on them next...that might work but the parents will be very startled if they hatch and the babies start bopping around like they do...so unlike pigeon babies! That would be a sight to see! I wonder if pigeons can look surprised?

Well, coffee's done...guess I will head out and survey the damage...I guess more storms are moving in from IA? Hopefully without the wind this time! (fussy, fussy I know!)
BL4--totally forgot that you would know about cows
hide.gif
I would think a bit milked out might make them more comfortable too...sounds like they did do that anyhow...yeah, been there, done that! (got the wet t-shirt to prove it!) Couldnt resist!!!

Later all--stay dry, unbroken, milked and safe all! Terri O

good morning all,

I was up at 4:45am today.. it sure was lonesome then. I was going to ait until 6:30 and then go out and empty the tractor bucket.. It was RANING HARD at that time so I went back to bed.. I had all sorts of bad dreams about my trucks.. One had 2 flat tires and the gas tank fell down.. Some guys were around it and had the motor out to fix the gas tank..?? and the other truck had no brakes at all. and something else I don't remember.. the funny part is that I do not have either truck anymore.. LOL was it a relief to wake up...

I called Farm & Home about my pulley.. Not in yet, "maybe after labor day",, ya THINK ??

The apples were really dropping during this rain.. the tree is almost bare.. Annie is dicing them for pies and freezing bags and bags of them..

I set 2 dozen quail eggs this a.m.. I have about 120 in the bator now.. Hope those two roosters are just not all talk out there..LOL

have 2 quail in the hospital pen.. no eggs in there, so we assume they are roosters..
no eggs? hen or rooster,,,,hello stew pot..

Good Morning all,

Hey Jim How does Annie prep the apples to freeze ??? I have tons of apples and want an EASY way to preserve them !! LOL

Hi all!

Dornes-Im sending well wished to both you and your neighbor! Wishes for you for the milk and your neighbor for the fire. Im glad that none of the cows and animals were hurt and hope that the cats had enough sense to get out of the barn. Being cats, hopefully they sensed what was happening and got out of the barn

BL4-congrats on the new babies!

Cind-glad to here dh's test were for the most part decent.

Well, we had a rough night here! The storms were very loud and chaotic here. It started at 1am for me. I had an upset stomach and when I finally got to sleep, It was only to be woken up to crashing thunder shaking the entire house and lightening just flaring everywhere! I heard a crash so loud that I though a tree had been hit but lightening but no trees were hit luckily. Saxon and Tootsie were terrified so I spent the majority of the storm with Tootsie while dh had Sax, keeping them calm and comforted. The only other problem I had was one of the rabbit cages got tossed off it's stand and the poor rabbit and her cage landed half on and half off the raspberry bush and the bush's container. She was luckily ok except for a torn toe nail. I'm really surprised the rabbits fared as well as the did. I fully expected to find a shocky and dying rabbit this morning. I had moved them to a better location to keep the sun off them yesterday but completely failed to look at the forecast far enough ahead to see the storms were coming! I feel so stupid! I was worried about the heat and I did not plan far enough in advance to make sure I moved them to a more secure location! They seem none the worse for wear and seem to be enjoying the cooler temps.

Well, I'm going to get to work on the Poultry Palace filling in dirt and hanging lights and such. I'm glad everyone is ok ! Stay safe peeps!

TO, glad to hear I am not the only one who had that 'experience'. I used to run around with extra T-shirts in the diaper bag!

I'll try to get pics of the little bumble bees as soon as I can; we have had one storm right after another here. Friday morning, early this morning and then again this late afternoon! Not good lighting for taking pics of baby ducks, especially since I have three mostly black ones and one gray. I am hoping Jules has a few more gray babies under her, or I should say the eggs Taffy insists on sitting on. I cannot get that duck to stop being broody! She sees the clutch of eggs and just starts sitting. I tried separating her from the nest for an entire afternoon but it did not work.

Anyway it had been a long day. Got up at 4:30 to get into work by 6, at 1 drove to UW to train my replacement there, finally made it home by 7........

Looking forward to a few days off.

Had a storm come through here this afternoon.. lots of rain, some lightning .. the power went off and on 3 times.. replenished the ducks' puddle real good..

we had turkey for supper.. kind of a training for tthanksgiving..

had a woman email me 4 times about americauna.. she asked if I had any other kinds of chickens. what did the ad say?? she also asked for my phone number.. I had already sent it on the reply before..and no,, I did not resend it.. she mentioned that she had read a few other ads, also.. Not where I posted mine on C List, lady.. there are no other ads for americauna.. If you find a better deal, go there. eh? I don't know why this one got me so worked up,, she prolly is a no-show anyhow.. she said she wanted only one or two.. hardly worth answering the post..

FT. Annie peels and cores the apples and cuts them int small pieces into water with lemon juice or something in it to keep them from turning brown.. then she puts them into ziplock bags and freezes them..

the chickens hatched another turkey today..#8 It sure looks tiny next to the week old one..

I went for some hay today.. I asked the guy what kind of turkey I had.. He didn't know for sure because the people he got t he eggs from had a Black shoulder hen and an India Blue pair..
A friend from Rhinelander was here and he thought I had a male.
Not for sure, though..

good morning, everybody must be sleeping in..

I just had a call, the woman is coming to get some americauna.. but I did not tell Annie soon enough , she turned everything loose already.. It is a muddy sloppy mess in the yard.. I rounded up a few chicks and got them back in.. I always wear sandals.. I might just as well be barefooted..

but D@mn !!! I thought I told her !!! One of us is getting forgetful..

...........jiminwisc........

I took the tractor back there and tried to scrape some of the mud aside. WRONG !! all I did was mix it up better..

between Annie and I , we got a few more chicks into the coop.. I might have to raise my price .. they are looking like big chickens , now..

something out there is trying out his new voice.. Not a smart thing to do when Annie is constantly rooster hunting.. LOL

I got an americauna crossbreed from the guinea lady a couple of weeks ago.. He is a nice looking rooster, . I cannot chase him into any coop though.. I don't know where he spends his nights,

........jiminwisc..........the forgetful one ???
