HI ALL
Jim....You got to keep posting to keep us kids in line!
Besides, you would be missed too much! What kind of light do you leave on for your birds?
Elaine....Sorry for your loss, could have been something else wrong with her you didn't notice. I have a Bantam Turken that has RIR roost mate. It's so cute, they were raised together and the RIR will even put a wing over Sissy if she's cold.
tiki... Hope you all the icky out of your birds! I was worried about one of my hens and her crop. After watching her and feeling it a couple of weeks I decided she was just a little piggy and kept filling it up fast!
Good luck with the roo!.... and your son too!
FT... As I remember in the 70's we just used "RIT" dye for feathers. Put them in a mesh bag (fine netting) and boil them like cloth. I think I used vinegar in the water too but not sure. Rinse well and put the dyed feathers in a pillow case, roll up the end and safety pin it tight. Throw it in the dryer and dry on low heat. Sorry about your little guy
Have fun with your new goats and birds! *I just looked this up (edited)....
http://www.ritdye.com/diy-projects/odds-ends/dyed-feathers They say dry with no heat but our dryer had a low heat setting and that's what I used.
BigZ.... Glad you had a nice dinner! I do like to go out now and then, but it all depends on where and why. Sometimes DH brings home crab legs as a treat for me!
He can't eat shell fish so I have them when he won't be home for super. Much cheaper than going out for them! May you have many more special dinners together!
TO... Little Turk is going to be the weirdest looking chicken on the farm!
Well, a few weeks ago I got a "Packer Brisket" and let it age in the frig. I cut it into 3 parts yesterday (to you all) and we had a real good roast last night! I just did the "pickling" for another 1/3 so we will have sauerbraten next week!
Haven't made it all year!
The guinea is back!!!
As I hoped it was probably at the neighbors and when it got dark it was stuck on the other side of the fence. I've been trying to listen to the calls and I know the white one is a girl and one of the dark ones is a boy, going to have to figure out how to mark them. Storkey still thinks it's a guinea! Even runs like the guineas!
This weekend looks like a "wood" weekend. DH has more free wood to pick up and I have to collect more fallen branches for kindling. I also have to start sawing up those oak planks and maybe start on the pallets if DH starts breaking them up. Running out of places to put wood! I don't know where the other people who had this place put it all... maybe in the shed... where the chickens are? I hope we get some nice big chunks soon. I don't like how small (around) what DH bought is. Burns too fast!
I guess most of the people the guy sells wood to use it for fireplaces not heating.
I talked to him about it, we got at least one more load coming from him so I'm hoping it's bigger chunks.
Well, Bed time! Night all!
