Hey Amy, sorry to hear about your sick EE. I think drug of choice would be Tiamulin (brand name Denagard). It is not a drug primarily used for chickens, I think either cow or pig. It is very expensive and I only found it online. 32oz bottle $39.99 at Valley Vet.
Anyway the treatment dose is 16cc per gallon of water for 5-7 days. As a preventative it is 8cc per gallon of water for 3 days each month.
Another drug you could use: Tylan 50 I know Tractor Supply carries it, not sure about Farm & Fleet or Fleet Farm. This is what I have written in my notes:
1/2 cc for 6-7 lb birds Injected
.25cc per lb of chicken weight (bantams) injected
1/2 cc down throat adult (juveniles)
1/4 cc half grown (chicks)
Then my notes get fuzzy. I have 1/10 cc ????? not sure given to what size bird????
For a eye wash and nasal flush: Mix Tylan 50 with sterile Saline Wash, (1 part tylan to 4 parts wash), put in each eye and use as nasal flush. Cindlady this might work for your guinea?????
Tylan Powder: (alot more expensive) 1 teaspoon per 5 gallons of water for 3 days or 1-5 days (?????)
I got all of these off of BYC at one point.
I would do a search for MG (Mycoplasma Gallisepticum) and Infectious Coryza and treat for those. No I wouldn't cull your birds. The only way you know what you have would be to have a swab sent in. Once they recover if they have one of these they will be carriers IF that is what they have.
Most backyard flocks are carriers !!! Someone on BYC talkd to a state vet and was told that.
Duramycin might help also. If you have any Oxine you can spray a fine mist with a vaproizer in your coop for all of the birds to breath in. Had to order that also. Rival Animal was the cheapest.

Sad news here too, last night OM DH told me he found one of my peahens dead. I have to go look at it today to see if she was thin etc.
Oh and Amyable, while you have your chicken in QT check her over good for lice/mites. That will decrease their resistence to disease by weakening their immune system.
