Good evening! THe chicken is starting to smell really good! Boy I think 26 is cursed today! Just now there was a train/car accident between Watertown and Ixonia...they are still looking for the guy that fell off the bridge. Lori (who you might remember) from the Drs office told me that the EMS guys were still looking at about 4 or so. I guess he stepped over the railing to get out of the way of oncoming cars thinking there was a ledge? So much for being a good Samaritan...I hope they find him! Lori says she hasnt been on but does read to keep up a bit...she got in trouble at work for posting...

her internet is not well at her house. She hopes to get it straightened out soon and told me today to tell everyone "hi."

So sorry about Duke Cind. May he rest in peace.

Did you guys do any of it or is that the price installed and everything? Funny about the year of free gas BigZ--they WISH! Good luck on the hatch...I sure would be interested in some more wheaton hens...she is the sweetest bird! Started laying again this week...So, what happens when you breed wheaten hens with black or with blue Roos? Do you get the same thing if you breed Blue or black hens with the wheaten roo? I know you know those genetics and it is just easier to ask you!

I got a car wash today...probably just in time for some snow tonight and more salt on the roads! When I took the truck to get hay this morning I was kinda happy that I left later than I wanted to. The roads were glare ice is spots! THe yeild sign on the round a bout was snapped off from someone that couldnt make the turn. Then when I was going down the hill to my last turn to get the hay I slid right past the road! It was tricky getting down the hill...then I couldnt get the truck into 4WD!

My arm just cant pull that lever right. My other truck was much easier! I was able to get back up the hill though and got the hay (45 bales) loaded and home safe! Then I had to unload it all so I could take the truck and switch for my car at DD25s work. WHew...I will sleep good tonight!

Smells like the chicken is done...guess we will watch a movie and eat some grub! Have a good night everyone! Terri O

(PS) hope the neighbor's dog is OK MLH! That just made me cringe!

I am going to start a file of "chicken facts".. things I hear and read from all over, including here on byc.. maybe I will publish it later in book form..

I had the new dog out for her perimeter walk just before dark.. we started down the driveway with her pulling hard on the leash.. by the time we got to the end of the drive, she was walking at heel just as nice as you please.. she sure seems smart.
I might change my mind about that the first time she p!$$3$ me off, though..

I sorted some of the guineas and turkeys out of the chicken coop tonight.. some were real reluctant to go into the guinea pen.. of course the gander standing in the doorway and threatening them didn't help any..

Not good news about Duke, Cind.. It was a good long friendship..
If there is a heaven for people;
dogs will be there..

Not looking forward to that same day myself.

Well I went on a little road trip after Christmas; headed up to Minneapolis to visit my brother and his little family and to meet the new baby! He is so cute! He does that concerned look all the time, like he is deep in thought. We decided to cross the state on Hwy 10 and pick up 94 in Osseo. A much more interesting drive (to me) than driving up to Wausau and crossing over on 29. The kids were able to see a few Amish farms when we were outside of Marshfield, and the views when you are over by Nielsville are amazing! The only part of the whole trip I could have done without was getting a cold! I am so stuffed up right now! I did not have my Zicam with me on this trip and so this is the first full blown cold I have had to suffer through in quite a while. I sat in the whirlpool and sauna at the hotel, trying to cook it out of me...... no such luck. Oh well, I guess I'll be pushing fluids for the next few days......

H&R, what kind of heater did you have put in??????

I am really looking forward to just sitting at home tomorrow and doing absolutely NOTHING. Just going to stuff my face with whatever I want to eat and RELAX...... pamper mamma day.

I heard on the radio today that there was a back yard coop fire in madison.
It was attached to OR in the garage. When the fire fighters got to the scene, they said
2 hens were running from the area..
I don't know if any diead and don't know if they found the hens or not yet.

Cind, so so sorry

I feel your sadness. Like Jim said, he will be with us in heaven or where ever we go. I have several beloved pets, dogs,cats, birds, chickens and a haflinger waiting for me. He was loved and he knew it. You can feel good knowing you gave him a wonderful home until the very end. RIP Duke !!

We had our chocolate lab spayed today. OM DH brought her in this morning and I picked her up. They said to give her just a bit of water and if she held that down she could eat. Well, she is a bundle of energy and after I picked her up I went to Aldis and Walmart. Then to GoodWill and bought her some blankets and a stuffed teddy bear.
Then took her for a McDouble (plain) at McDonalds and a cup of water. We sat in the parking lot at McD's and she gulped down the water

She had only eaten about a quarter of the burger so I took it way. Before I knew it Up it all comes. It seemed like alot for just the burger !!! Turns out she still had her supper from last night in her Puke !! They said nothing to eat or drink after 10 pm. She must have eaten her food then but I can't believe it was still in there !!
Then on the way home we stopped at the family cabin in Monico to see my Niece and her husband and my Brother and his son and see how they did ice fishing. I get out of the car and low and behold on the seat of the car (that I was sitting on) was another pile of puke !!! YUK !!! Last nights supper.

So needless to say we went into the cabin but I didn't sit down !!! Only stayed 10 minutes, took the egg order from everyone and backed out the door so they couldn't see the wet spot on my jeans !!!!

So back in the car, ready to go home to feed horses, close up chickens. SH!T I was stuck in the driveway !!!! It is on a hill and it wasn't plowed but they had made it down so I thought what the heck I can to ! Just as I was calling my nephew they came out the door to get the fish to start cleaning and I had to ask for help. Three strong big guys couldn't get me up the hill.
Finally my nieces husband asked if he could drive my car. Well I had to put one of the new blankets on the seat,

. The other two guys pushed him up.
Boy did I feel like a little old helpless lady !!

I guess I was giving it to much gas while they were pushing. Kurt is a farm boy (now a professor at River Falls) and hopped in and my car was up the hill with no problems !!! GeeZ !! I never in my wildest dreams thought I would need help drving me car up a hill !!!

SH!T !!! But in my defense I do use my fake foot on the gas and I guess it may not be a lead foot but it does just as good of a job !!!

Got home, fed horses, closed up chickens while Reba (the lab that just had surgery) was running all over the yard, squeezed into the goat pen and wanted to play with the goats !!! They told her to take it easy !! Yeah right, this dog has so much energy !!! She was moaning a bit in the car so I know she is not feeling the best but I gave her the rimadyl that they sent home with her but I think that came up with last nights supper.

Hope she sleeps well tonight, poor girl. Sure wish when I got spayed I felt as good as she did !!! What gives with that ????

I just candled my eggs, I have a few that are veining from just a few days ago and some from the 16th but the ones I put in on the 22nd aren't doing anything. I have no idea how old some of them are. One egg was actually sticking to the turner and I had to put water onto get it unstuck. I smelt it and it smelt bad. I cracked it open and it was all black inside. Those were from my lavender split pen and there were tons of eggs but I hadn't collected for a while so I was just testing them. Good thing it didn't burst. I'm going to give the others a few more days then remove them too.
I'll start collecting some fresh ones over the weekend. After I hatch some out then I will start selling on the auction again.
Got 20 eggs from my layers today !!

It's about time !!! We only added additional light about two weeks ago, we're back in business !!! No duck eggs but they don't have the extra light yet !!

Going to pick up the deer from the butcher tomorrow, then drive down to bring it to Bigzios place to get some of that delicious farmers sausage and summer sausage made. Then to to the feed store for more chicken feed. If there is time probably go get more wood chips and may drop off some venison at the grocery store's meat market in Elcho for some of their sausage too. (OM DH boss gave us some and it was good too) Variety is the spice of life remember !!

Ok, gotta to to MapQuest and plan my route. OM DH is coming with me ! It is either going to be a good day or a Day from H3ll when he finds out I want to stop at Tractor Supply in Shawno oh and go to Bigzios feed mill too,

Dang, I have better get to bed !!!

Hi All!

Well Duke is buried by the set of 3 pines in the back. The grave was there since we thought we were going to loose him last time.

So it was no shock when he went down hill. Actually, it's a relief, he went in his sleep now. The last few months have been hard on all for us, many people (including me) felt it would have been best for Duke if he were put down. DH figured if he ate, drank, and went potty, he was OK.

He did allot of wining...he got "lost" allot (even in the house)he didn't want to be by anyone, and he was just not good. At least he's at peace now, he deserved it. He was a very good dog!

Oh, DH said he my have been closer to 18

We had him for about 7 1/2 years and the vet said he was at least 10 when we brought him in right after we got him.

DrH.... Yep, hand should heal just fine... I've been banging it and trying to grab things regularly!

FT... Glad to hear the spaying went good... That sweet little kitty is next here! Hope you and OM DH get along well on your trip!

Grrrr this hand is P!ss!ng me off! Too much to do that I need it for and I'm going to get so far behind! Then I got to be careful with it after the splint comes off so I don't mess it up again.

DH is tring to take up the slack, but he puts in so many hours I feel bad asking him to do things. And I'm a little afraid of him and power tools.... especially SAWS! (Did I ever mention he passed shop class with the promise he never try to use tools again!

) Love him but....

Oh... Jim (again) we can get plastic barrels for free.... 2nd son has a lead on a motor and works where he can use the machine shop. What do you think about using a 2 step motor? What should the RPMs be? I can use some of that oak scrap for a frame (I can make that) and I want to scare up some wheels. It's a start. I may get the book ($20) If I "rent" the plucking service I may get our money back.

OK...stoke the fire and time for bed.... night!

I get to make a trip to Downsville next week to meet a lady who is taking 3 of my roosters! Yay! She's from Winona. We'll see if the one little splash cochin heals before then. He got worked over yesterday and can't even open his eyes. Anyone in the Lacrosse, Arkansaw, Menomonie area need an Iowa Blue/Black Orpington roo? I've got 3 left . . . Or AngieBub's barred rock? I could cart him along.
