Angibubs- Hi, I live in Mukwonago, WI. It is between Madison and Milwaukee. Where are you? Maybe we could go in together? It looks like my pet chickens min order for regular shipping is 15. I only need 5. Purley Poultry is here in Wisconsin, but too far for me to drive. We would need 15 chicks with them too to save on shipping.

Angibubs- Sorry to hear about your Duke! It is so hard when it is time to say good bye to our dogs.

BBP: Thanks for the advertising of my BR lol. I will definately stop in the co-op soon. Do they know yet which hatchery they will be ordering from? And do they req 5 min per person or just 5 total of each breed (if someone else was ordering?) I have my list narrowed down to 7 breeds I would like to add one of ea....(sigh) Let me know when Amy is going to McMurray-you said usually in Jan? I was hoping to start chicks mid March so they could move out to the coop (in brooder and hear lamp) beg/mid April. Also, I definately want a couple of your Lavendar Orps pullets-please reserve 1-2 for me? Did you see my posting about adding a "Grow/full spectrum light on a timer in the coop? $15 total and it is working great so far!!!)

Magnolia- Both Angiebubs and I are from Amery. Unfortunately, we are very far from you. What breeds are you looking for? The closest I will be getting to you is Wisconsin Dells in February.

Angiebubs - I work today so I'll see which one they are using. I know sometimes they order from Meyer.

good morning all.. DrH,, I thought it was understood that when I said I was going to get "facts" from BYC that it would be a fiction book..

Tiny perch are one of my favorite fish meals.. just gut them, skin them, and take out the bones.. You will end up with 2 shrimp size , one bite, pieces..
Cooking: boil some water with quite a bit of salt in it.. drop the pieces of perch (or bluegill) into the water for just a few minutes.. until they turn white.. (I think you know how to boil fish). I think the salt keeps them from falling apart..
take them out and run them under cold water, or drop them into ice water until they cool completely..
Eating: (my favorite part of any recipe) get some Hoffman House Shrimp sauce, or make your own with my ho-made horseradish and some catsup.. eat them cold like shrimp...
betcha can't eat just one !!!

Cind what is a two step motor ? I suppose you can use any type of motor, as long as you can get the final RPM of the featherplate down to about 200 RPM..(this is not critical) I rum mine at 190 RPM with a 3/4 HP motor.. and Rodney runs his off his tractor PTO at just over 500 RPM ...

I have a book that you can borrow.. I also have tons of photos and notes for you to look at before you begin building one..
If you want the photos, it will take me just a few minutes to load you up with lots of ideas.. all I need is your email Addy.. Oh wait, I already have it.. never mind.. just give me the word and they will be on their way//

No baby geese yet.. we are bouncing around the due dates now.
usually the first eggs are not fertile.. and my geese are usually about 50% fertile.. That part i am surprised at, what with all the "activity" that goes on in that little pool of water....

it is always hard to lose a friend no matter how long we have had them.

, I know that in spring Jefferson, Beaver Dam and Fond Du Lac all hold swap meets and you might be able to find the breed you are looking for there. You could also do a search for that breed and see if they have a club website and usually the club websites have lists of breeders. Good Luck in your search.

Terry O- from reading on the Ameraucana thread if you pair the wheaten girl with a blue or black rooster you would end up hatching chicks whose colors are not a recognized approved color and would be considered EE's. Of course if you aren't looking to show or sell the chicks then you can expirement to your hearts content. If someone wanted chicks from that cross just make sure they understand that they are EE's! Big issue from what I read on that thread about people thinking they purchased pure Ameraucana to find that they are EE's

MLH- hope your DH's leg is doing better and hope the neighbor's dog is okay

Kristip- we will probably have extras, are you wanting just girls? The leghorns are bantam size so you might want to think about getting 2 so there is a buddy to hang with.

For those who are inquiring about our furance

our heating is LP so we had to have a conversion for that and we went with an ultra high efficency model which qualifies us for tax rebates. We also added a better filter to pull more dust and such out of the air and help keep it cleaner- DH- has allergies that flair up from time to time so we run our fan year round to help that. It runs alot quiter- I have to stop and listen to hear if it is on and should run alot less thus helping cut down on our LP bill. No free gas, no A/C needed and they did the complete removal and install.

Today we will take the eggs out of the turners and wait and see what happens. We also set 36 eggs last night in our other bator.

Yes it was what I thought when you said "facts" but just wanted to clarify. H&R hope you asked about how often they have to do service calls on that model.

Some of the new ones have a high rate of problems.

Good icy morning!
Hens and Roos... come spring I may be asking if you have any available and yes I prefer hens. as do my neighbors!

Well we decided that for now ( unless i change my mind and we girls have every right to do that!!) we will keep the coop as is, enlarge the run from 8 feet to adding another 6-8 feet in length/width and modifying our bunny hitch to be a silkie coop in the run. We will chop the legs down and put a board on the front grate for winter and open in summer. They refuse to climb the ramp we have( it is a longer one so I can understand kinda) so being this will be only a foot off the ground or so, the ramp will be better for them.

There is also a lady around here that has some silkie 3 month olds she wants to get rid of. I want to get a look at them to see if they are all roos at this point. But they are free. This would keep my kids happy and then I can get my layer breeds. want to add some nice white egg layers and hoping my chick Solo is a girl because she might be an olive egger.

Will have to look in the coop drive on here to see if there are modified bunny hutches, but this is big enough to fit a bunch of them for snuggle sleep like mine do in a pig pile.
