My husband came home from his Colorado trip to find one of my hens hurt. She was hanging upside down from the fencing aroung the compost pile and flapping. She either jumped or slipped and her leg got caught on the corner where the panels meet. Her leg is skinned. I was at work, she'd be dead if he hadn't come home and noticed her.

BBP-sorry to hear about your hen. It's good that your DH got home to help her out. Hope she heals well. You could Blue Kote the leg and give her a shot of Penicillian every other day for a few days. That will help her. Don't know if you needed or wanted my 2 cents but there you have it! Hope you don't mind!

Angie-I don't subscribe to topics here. I get to many emails to keep up with if I do!! I just click on the "new posts" button when I see a topic that I follow has new posts on it. That takes me to the first post that comes after the last one I read....does that even make sense! LOL!!

Well, I have terrific and totally awesome news!! Zeva is alive!!!!

I honestly thought she did not make it from getting hit by that car. I never got a change to catch up to my neighbor so I could not ask about her. So since I had not seen her since that night she got hit, I though she was gone. But today, I walked out to get the mail and there she was!!! All alive and clean!!! She must have been in the house to recover. She would not come over to my yard (that's good!) so I walked over to hers and gave her a huge hug and many pats. She was happy to see me but she kept looking over she shoulder like she was going to get into trouble for having me say "hi" to her! I was very impressed that she stayed in her yard! I hope she continues to stay on the dairy and has reformed her Social Butterfly ways. I'll miss her visits, but it;s for her own good to stay home.
Ok I just had to tell you all that she is ok!! Yeah!!!!!!

WELCOME Bigfamily4me! This is a GREAT little forum. It kinda reminds me of the old show "Cheers."

Had an experience in the woods. The logs were frozen to the ground - not easy to get loose. I spent A LOT of time just loosening them from the ground - probably HALF! LOL I cut up enough for about six GOOD sized loads on the little trailer. I ended up getting three back to the wood pile. The little trailer worked well. I'll get the rest tomorrow. I may even try and get another couple logs freeed.

Thanks for the good news re: Bert 'da Rooster... I'm with Brent and Jim. I aint dubbing crap off anything. LOL Let Mother Nature take her course!

Biz - I actually thought about stripping the bed, washing and drying on the line! LOL I love that smell. Didn't have time today. Oh well, I washed the bedding last June and it still has that "Spring Fresh" smell

BBP - I'd like to see a pic of that Chix and how it was hung up in the fence. Don't mean to laugh at your expense but these chickens are really curious and can get themselves into some pretty weird situations. Glad everything turned out alright...

Well, the sun is still up - shining brightly, I've just mixed a Jimmy & Coke - I think I'll go out, grab a lawn chair, set it up outside the run and throw some food at the Chix for amusement.

NO NO NO this is how I do it. I was getting tired of tons of emails too. So what I did since you have already posted on Cheeseheads, first of all unsubscribe. Then one on the community forum click on index. Go to the bottom of the page and click on Show my posts or something like that, then every thread that you have posted on will show up on a list. Because Cheeseheads are jabber mouths it will be near the top and there you have it. Easy to find.
I am only going to subscribe to posts that are like for a specific question that to many people won't be posting about. Then when I get the occassional email it won't be a pain in the A$$.
Try it and you'll see what I mean.

Jim, weird about Tessmer. Wonder what he's up to? He had Great Pyrenees. Maybe he's going to mix the two or get into the different breeds. I think he had sheep or something that he used the dogs for.

So Nora isn't spayed? So I'll start breeding pigs if you breed dogs !! NOT !!

Wow, that sounds terrible !! So the skin is peeled off ? Bet she is pretty sore or bruised from hanging. Hope nothing is broke. I think that Vetericin (that's that expensive stuff right) will work very good. Blue kote will help cover up red color if there is any.

I went out to the tower, there is NO CUCKOO Maran ROOSTER out there !!! Tomorrow I might take a rake and rake the snow to see if I find anything. What a duffus for putting him out there and never telling me, let alone asking me. I like to quarantine my birds !!
