... Hopefully I'll get the new candler before lockdown

Thanks so much for posting the pics Raim! We have Donald's carbon copy over here and we think they are the babies of Jules, Daisy is definitely Maggie's baby!

So I ran over to the Wal-Mart in New London this morning to get some things for the fabric dyeing project, and decided to take a stroll through the clearance isle. Good thing I did! They have 8qt pressure cookers for $35! So of course I picked one up and tonight made my very first pressure cooker meal! Beef roast with mashed potatoes and gravy....... the book that comes with the pot has a recipe for rice pudding in it that I am going to make after dinner since the kids just love rice pudding!

Bf4, I just use either a LED flashlight or a mag lite for candling.......

You guys and all your hatching.... I cannot wait until I am able to finally have chickens!

Well, I just candled my shipped paint silkie eggs. Got 10 eggs total and all but maybe 1 has detached air cells !!!!

I am not a happy camper. Maybe one has some development !!!

Ram, that is a neat looking goat pen. What kind of goats? Nubian's? Is Arrow a boy? So you have a pair or are they two girls. Unaltered boys are suppose to really smell I guess.

Watching the Bachelor so forgive any bad spelling.

OK commercial !! They're looking for the Bachelors to date the next Bacherlorette. I think Tomksi and Tattor Tot should apply !!! Then when you bring the Bacherlorette to your hometown all of us CheeseHeads can screen her. She'll Fly the Coop first thing if she doesn't like chickens or any type of fowl for that matter !!!
Which reminds me, tomorrow on Celebrity Wife Swap one of the wives is going to have to take care of the swapped wifes chickens, that ought to be funny !!

Good evening everyone! I had quite the day today. The dog is doing well...no limping tonight!

I am glad. Hopefully she will only get better now.
Bigfam--I think that candler was reviewed on the right side yesterday. Is that why you bought it? I dont really do any candling myself...the one time I used a flashlight under a TP tube...didnt work too bad! DH just bought himself a $50 flashlight and I think I will "steal" that if I decide I need to candle again. He says it is 200+ lumens...brighter than his Maglite "for sure!" He just said we should try it...but I only have nondeveloped eggs here...we are trying it on a dark shelled egg now....wait here....OK we tried my flashlight (not bright at all) and couldnt see too much...then we used the new one and saw that the egg was actually cracked with a spiderweb type crack! It wasnt a really dark egg though...the girls must have taken a few dozen with them this week....might be using it again....
Raim--those goats are under a year??? WHat in the world are you feeding them? I am sorry to say but those pics either make them look fat or they are!

So if you are planning on milking them they say that if they are early spring babies then the should be bred the following October for the most milk output. I have mine running together with the bucks so the always ARE bred their first season. I dont milk any longer though. I usually find that unless I am really on hand to supervise and help they usually lose their first kids. For some reason the youngest ones seem to have the babies first...I wish they would wait until their MOm's gave birth 'cause the older ones will help with drying the babies off etc. But yours would definitely need to loose a bit of their bulk before they would even settle in my opinion.
(I do have a nice buck for sale)

I am sure I had something else to say...hmmm--maybe it was "goodnight?"
Get those pics on here DrH--You're killing me! I am lending my incubator to a woman my daughter works with so she can hatch some of my quail eggs with her Sunday school class...cool for me cause they can be my replacements! I have to get the two chickens out of there though...they have decided that quail eggs are delicious! These are the two that I rescued from up on the coop ceiling a while back...need a bit of warmer weather before I boot them outside though!

Tomorrow then! Terri O

(PS) forgive my misspellings if you would...the spell check on here is BAD! Mine on my Firefox doesnt work on here...and the cut and paste is crappy too! I, for one, am NOT impressed!

What colors were you hoping to get? I'm not familiar with paint silkies, but they sound cool! I'm getting silkies for the boys in June. A blue hen, blue Roo, white hen, buff hen, and a black hen. I'm thinking may be 4h for the kiddos? I'm also thinking how fun it would be for making baby silkies... The roo, not me!

Evening All...long day in the woods today,,,honest days work for sure.

bf4, I have the standard OvaView and works great...the high power one should work fine.

Nice pics raim. Sorry for the losses...including the Packs. Hope they can find enough money to keep DD...he was the only star to shine on our side of the ball.

Good to hear the hatches are going well. I will prolly be setting eggs around the first of April....waiting for the spring vigor and better brooding weather for the set up in the garage. Even then outdoor temps can hang in the 30's....and they are still laying by fall. Works here anyway.

Here is the thread for the Paint Silkie.

It is not a recognized color for silkies yet. It is the new "Hot" color for silkies. I could

myself for buying the eggs, hastey decision.
Where are you getting the silkies from? Are they breeder quality or pet quality? If breeder quality you wouldn't want to mix the white and buff colors with the blue and blacks.
They are fun little birds.
