Ah... would love a pig but that might be the end of my marriage... lets stay with chickens for now. Someday I want to raise our thanksgiving turkey but that might take a little work for dh.

Well it was a zero egg day.. not good !!! 8 girls out there and no one could give me anything!!!
Need to zero in one some good layers, regardless of color that my kids can raise! Our 2 originals I think are getting old. One is so sweet and gentle... I dont think she can go yet, but the other one might. Still a nice bird, but getting older.

Wasnt someone on here's son with the underground food kitchen in Madison? Hope they are getting back on their feet soon. We ate their once before the fire and it was excellent. I actually facebooked them to have a chicken day. They have butcher a pig day which is cool to see how, but so many in WI have chickens... maybe that would be a cool start.


Anyway- looking forward to the warm week to clean out the coop. We are all healthy for now ( knock on wood) so hoping to stay that way for a while. Gonna go post some pics in guess the sex for my cockoo marans/EE cross ( think it is a girl so far. I think she is about 11 weeks or so now and comb is small and yellow still. No obvious feathers... hoping!! Might be an olive egger then!
My splash silkie is looking to be a roo... posting those pics too. about 5 months old and starting to see streamers and comb is getting a little bigger. What bred to a splash would give me splash or blue ( is it just splash or blue for an answer???)

Hi all! Been trying to get my new bator set today!~CC and Bigfam were here at noon (just like they said) and CC and I for our eggs! I thought she was going to jump right out of that car!!!

Then we would have fallen on our knees to rejoice...right CC?

So anyhow...my new eggs are waiting on the counter with a few others I am test hatching until the bator stabilizes. I totally forgot to get it going last night! Met with Bigfam and she brought her 4 hungry boys along...took them for something to eat and came back for the "grand" tour. Nothing like having a "stranger" look at your stuff to realize that you have work to do!!! THe winter is so yucky here! Then I went to the feed mill to pick up my order from Friday...got that all placed in the right cans. I used the sled that I told CC we could put a stool in for her and pull her around the farm...she declined...

I dont know what her problem was...LOL!

Wait--gotta check temps.....by golly--I think I've got it!!! I will wait for a few hours yet and see if it stays the same. The only problem I have incubating at this time of year is that our heat goes from 65 in the day to 55 at night and the bator cant keep up. This time I am trying leaving the light on under the counter top for extra heat...I sure hope it works!

Making some chicken on the grill tonight...not sure about the sides. THinking broccoli and boiled reds or maybe golds...sweets and mashed? Rice pilaf? not sure about the starch as yet.
Gotta head out and do a search for calibrating humidistadts now....all this stuff to incubate...kinda wish I had a broody that wasnt on eggs....yup, about 2 weeks left for "Wonder Mom!"

Oh yes... I got the full tour! It was fun to see SO many different types of animals! I only need to round out my education by driving up to FT and touring her menagerie

Still at 3 chicks. I feather sexed them (yes I could see, TO) and I have 2 pullets and one roo. The EE's are my girls. I have named the first one Rocket, the second one Starlet, and the BCM Speedy (he went from pip to zip FAST).

I'm hoping Speedy will survive, but there is an umbilical issue, so I dont know...

I moved them into the brooder. It looks so HUGE for only 3 chicks! I'll try to get pictures soon.

Oh and it was my pleasure to share my auction winnings with CC and TO. It will be so cool to see how they hatch for you guys!

To get Splash 100 % of the time you will need to breed Splash to Splash. To get Blue 100% of the time you can breed Splash to PURE Black, the reason I say PURE Black is because alot of Silkies that look black are actually Blue.
So here it the scoop on breeding Blues, Blacks and Splashes. Use the Parsons Square below

BB = Splash
Bb = Blue
bb = black

Breed BB x BB Splash to Splash = 100% Splash

Breed BB X bb Splash to Black = 100% Blue

So anyway, short story long that is how it works. Hope I did those right, don't want to make it clear as mud !! lol This is the simple version. Dont' ask me any more then that !! I"m lost, it gets alot more complicated when you start talking black alle(sp) ^ and a bunch of other weird things that can make a chicken look black but affect the outcome color. Genetics Ahhhh, wish I would have paid attention in HS !!! And whites, that's a whole different ball game !!

Good Evening all !! Tomorrow is lockdown for more silkie eggs !!!

Paints and more Lavender splits. My lavender split chicks that I posted yesterday are really looking good. They were a bit scruffy looking yesterday. Now their fluff has really fluffed up !! Weird I have so many different colored ones from two black hens and one buff hen with the lavender rooster. I'll definately have to hit the Self Blue (Lavender ) silkie thread and find out what they all think of these colors !!!

Anyway I have to share that the recipe I got from TO for the peanut butter Cheesecake was delish !! Thanks TO
And the pork and vension roast I made with the mushroom soup, dry onion soup mix and can of coke was a sucess. Did I already tell you guys that ?

Basically did nothing today. I had planned on getting my little piggy Petra for Porky but the guy couldn't do it today.
Now I'm wondering if I should get another little boy instead of a girl. Either way they are not going to be house pigs like allot of potbellies are but they say the females suffer from PMS !!!
H3LL I don't need that around here, I lived with it from within for 30 yrs and don't want to ever deal with that again EVER Pig or person !!! Getting spayed was the best thing I ever did for myself !!! And those around me !!! LOL And you guys thought I was full of P!ss and Vinegar now !!!!

All you ladies and gents have my sympathy dealing with all that stuff !

But then I'd have to get another little boy neutered if I got a boy. Maybe I should just pick one out that I like and let it be a surprise !!! Oh it's a boy, oh it's a girl !!! I don't think I am going to tell you guys what it is, I'll post a picture and let you guess !!!

Ok, time to go heat up left overs and make more carrots. Would you believe I made two pounds of carrots yesterday and I only ate maybe 1 and a half carrots. OM ate all of the rest !!! He sure can eat !!! Not that I can't

but boy oh boy !!! Might I add that I found about 50 lbs after I got married to that man !!!! Only 8 yrs ago !!! What can I say after all that is all we have in common !!! FOOD !!!
