Happy New Year, everybody! (Better late than never, right?)
Anyhow, just wanted to drop in and say hello. Love this weather, especially the sunshine. Is any body starting seeds this month? I think Feb. is when to start brussel sprouts? Does anyone know when to start fennel?

Welcome back Elaine! Your (my) Elaine hen is very sassy now...I dont think she cares to be cooped up! LOL! My book says to plant successive plantings of Fennel so it doesnt go all woody at once. You can start it outside in April. Also if you do start in early it goes on to say that it would be transplanted out before the seedlings develop taproots.

Well, I just came in for lunch...I have to go out and unload my hay...and all the rest! Thank God I was able to purchase some straw! I will do that first! T

She's 29 AGAIN today !!!

Don't really have to many lavender chickens here yet. I have the lavender pair of Orps. One lavender orp roo with funky looking feathers on his tail (will not breed him)
1 lavender Ameraucana hen and 1 lavender silkie roo. Now I'll have to breed his daughters (the silkies) back to him to get lavenders or breed the siblings together. Like I really need more chicks.

Speaking of silkies, going to work on their water nipple buckets again today. Never ending !!!

You guys make me giggle... and I have only increased my flock by 50% in a year.... not too bad right??? And DH asked the loaded question on lunch... do we really need a bigger coop and if so how big... I just looked at him and laughed. It is 8x4 and raised right now with an 8x8 run... but run will increase by another 8x8 this spring with a silkie hutch in the run. I dont know if I should answer his question because he will need to build me a doghouse to be in!!!

I'm being bad and taking a break to see what y'all have been up to! I've been doing some laundry but mostly looking at Sears' website and doing refrigerator recon and fact finding. Our refer. is making all sorts of sad sounds and I have had to bump up the coolness level. The poor thing is 10 years old, has been dragged across the country, then stuck in storage for a year, then taken out of storage to be used at the house we rented down in Nashville, then got it's little butt hauled up to WI.
I've narrowed it down to about three models and now I need to go look at them. I also have to go to Menards at one point and look at their microwaves as well. Ours is on the outs. It's also 10 years old! I guess all my appliances are getting to be elderly. The washer and dryer are next but gosh I don't want to replace those! Talk about cha-ching!!

Ok, off to lunch and look at more microwaves and read more refer. reviews...
