Way to go on the bowling TO. You'd whip me easy.
Sorry to hear about your plumbing woes. I don't think a possum is your culpret.
That is sad about the bees, BL4. They have been having a hard enough time trying to survive as it is. I saw a documentary about the bee population decline in China, I think it was? Anyway, they are so bad that they had to have people go out and actually pollenate the flowers on the fruit trees by hand.
They said one person could
maybe get 1 tree done a day. Imagine a whole orchard full! Wouldn't want that job. I would love to get into beekeeping one day, though. I hope you find your ring. Have you ever tried taking ginko? My DH always swears by it so I finally tried it. It seems to be working so far.
Cind, great minds think alike!
And I agree that FT is probably sleeping in the barn after her latest addition.
They sure are cute though. Too bad they never stay that small. Sorry to hear about your PR, but I applaud you on calling the DNR & donating your girl. I would have done the exact same thing. While I don't enjoy seeing critters killing other critters, namely mine, I do understand that everyone has to eat. I'm glad you're feeling better too.
Apyl, I'd avoid buying chicks from
TSC if I were you. I've done it & regretted it. For a first time chicken owner, I would recommend that you get yourself some heritage breed chicks from a reputable hatchery, have them vaccinated & feed them a high quality medicated chick starter. And do lots and lots of research prior to getting them, as I am sure you are already doing.
And feel free to ask us anything. There are lots of very experienced chicken owners here who are more than happy to help someone out. Like Raim & Jim, I agree on rethinking having the brooder in the kitchen. Chicks create tons of filth, so a bathroom or laundry room might be a better choice. Unless you're addicted to cleaning.
If you don't get them too early, you could start them indoors, then move them to the garage to acclimate them to the cooler outdoor weather before moving them to the coop.

At least you have the stones to admit it, Jim.
And noone can deny that through mistakes comes wisedom, (unless they're a dumba** that never learns from their mistakes. Plenty of those around, unfortunately). Apyl, Jim is definitely one of our chicken experts around here. Although I'm not too sure about singing his praises after that measurement comment............
Yep, you're right MLH. Payback is a *itch. Those baby bunnies are the most darling little things! Too sweet!
Raim, I know the feeling. I had one hen totally infested with the tiniest little mites you ever saw. At least I only found them on her, but I dusted the heck out of everything anyway. I can't remember which one it was offhand, but I guess there is one mite that thrives in the winter & dies back in summer. Wild birds & rodents are the biggest carriers.

Oh, just admit it, Bf4. You're gonna do it. How can you resist all the talk & chick pics that are going to be going on here?????
No candling yet. I'm too nervous. I've been wanting lavs for sooooooo darn long. I'm afraid I'll drop one.
Well, better post this before I loose it. Sweet dreams, all!
