Hi all!

DrH... so glad you enjoy your new toys!

TO... No, they weren't fancy cakes. I did put confetti sprinkles in them, but no frosting. So, no pics.

CC...Too bad you only have 2 maybes with your eggs. Oh well, lots of time for hatching!

When I had chicks in the house last year I took an under bed plastic storage box and put hardware wire around the inside. The lid sat on the top of the wire. Worked out well. Couldn't find a picture of it though. I still have it and use it for an isolation pen if need be.

Glad everyone that had to go out made it OK... even if it was a little rough. I had to get feed and groceries... real icky... even with the van (loaded with 600 lbs of feed) I was still crawling along.

None of the birds wanted to go out today! I bet it will be that way tomorrow too. Maybe I'll throw some straw down in the run for Sun. I got some DE (with the clay) to freshen up the coop a bit. Don't want to clean it yet. Hoping to get a couple more weeks out of it.

Well, I should cut a little more wood before bed so night all!

OH!!! Almost forgot! 23 eggs today!!! Felt like going out to see who I could squeeze to get 1 more egg!

Good Morning Everybody! Have agree on that wind MAN that was nasT. Yup TO the TV is some plywood I banged together, cut holes and added screen to 2 sides and drilled vent holes around the bottom edge. I used magic marker to put knobs on it. I keep the heat lamp at one end too. When they started to feather out I switched to incandescent bulbs. Pretty warm by the wood stove. Their getting pretty friendly now. All I have to do is put my hand in there and most come running expecting wax worms but instead they get touched.

They don't have a problem with it. Yesterday was 2 steps forward and one back instead of the usual 1 forward 2 back with the stove. BFF's dad told me that he would come over and wire it for me "anytime" called him yesterday to see if he could come today and he said that he wouldn't be able to do it until Mon or or Tues. What the H3LL?

Think I figured it out last night but have to check it this morning, Still not sure about wiring the thermostat. I know which terminals on the wall but it doesn't show or say which on the transformer. I would think it would be the like lettered. C to C, W to W. Makes sense to me but I'm an idiot! If things go well today I might swap them out but there's a lot other things that need doing like change the stinkin bedding in the brooders.

When my chicks were small (last year), I put cardboard around the sides to keep out any drafts too. As they got older, the cardboard slowly came down, one side at a time. I see nothing wrong with your set-up. My girls survived just fine, and I've raised 3 generations in the same cage. Although, as you can see, they outgrow being "inside" the cage rather quickly.

Yeah, I was pretty surprised after doing more research that they grew so fast. But its all good, After they outgrow the first cage I have a huge dog crate I was going to open and put front to front with some cardboard wall added for height. I always hated how large that dog crate was but I guess now it comes in handy lol. If they outgrow that I guess I'll have to built something bigger or just put them out in the coop with a heat lamp or two. Or at least thats the plan so far lol.

Well I gotta call from DH who said he was in a ditch about 3 miles from our home. I was in Jefferson at the time and had to call the insurance co to have them send the road side assistance/tow truck for him. he called back a bit later saying that a good samaritan with a truck and a tow rope got him out of the ditch.
Thank you God!! there wouldn't have fee, if he were with in 6 feet of the road, which he was.. but still...

glad to know everyone is safe (at least I hope so... I haven't read days worth of posts-yet)

Glad to hear he is ok and someone stopped to help.

I just candled the eggs. Only 2 had any possibilities. The rest were clears.

I remember some one wantin knobs for their chick tv, I still have that tv in my garge. lol
right this is driving me crazy, my computer is having trouble thinking. Time to clean it up/out. I'm gonna run spybot, I've been noticing alot of the things that I google are coming up in the ads on the side of my screen. I got a spy in my computer.

Don't be silly. They are your eggs, your chicks. You did me the completely selfless favor of letting me have some, and for that I will be eternally grateful.

I just hope they both hatch out & survive. Having a single chick in a brooder is gonna suck. I even put one of Mooses eggs in there with the lavs but that one was a clear too. What a time for him to miss.

I saw someone on CL was selling some lav eggs a while back up in West Bend. Maybe I can get some from her & give you some or hatch them out for you? We'll both get our lavenders, sooner or later. Then you, me & FT can have our own little WI lav club.

Speaking of which, FT, when are you hatching out some of your lavs? Inquiring minds want to know.

good morning, I am still drinking coffee and stalling .. It is cold out there..
about 9PM last night I realized that I didn't close the door on the guinea pen.. It was cold then, too, so I left it open.. I notice this morning that there are no guineas outside.. they are prolly frozen to the perches..

I found a male Maremme,, one problem, it turns out that it might be a brother to Nora. What are the odds of that ? He is about 50 miles from us..

the other people emailed me back and said they do not let their male out for stud..

Oh well, we will just let her go through this heat and try again in a few months.. that will give us more time to search for a mate..

Last night Annie was pointing out all the dogs close to us in the neighborhood. I didn't know there were so many.. and I don't know how she knew about some of them.. Like Randy's,, he lives way back in the woods and seldom walks anywhere..

Good Morning all! Man it is CHILLY out there...I just went out in my bathrobe, hat and chore boots to put my Valentine's in the mail. Sure am glad I had my blanket sleeper jammies on! I bought them for my daughters last Christmas and they gave them to me! Silly girls...So I was one Valentine short...if you dont get one...LOL!
Funny that you let your guinea door open last night Jim...I had a dream that I forgot to do chores last night and all the doors were open. Just a dream, but is sure felt real in the middle of the night! All doors were closed this morning. One of the quail flew out of the quail room downstairs this morning. I cant find it! There is so much junk in the basement that it could be hiding anywhere! I hope it shows up soon before it starves or the cats find it...we dont let them down there but they do sneak down every once in a while.

Definitely procrastinating about going outside this morning! DH has informed me that it is SEVEN already! BBRRRR! I guess it will be a "big coverall Day" today. I have to remember to bring hot water out to get the pump to run too. The hydrant handle slips on the rod if it is really cold. I think it freezes down because of the leaking that goes on while the water is running. Cant ever seem to get it to stop for long either!

THat is crap about those eggs CC! I guess I will just have to candle mine today to see what I have now...;thanks a lot! Sounds like the roo was shooting blanks where Bigfam got those eggs! I hope the Marans are better. No sense in incubating infertile eggs is there? Although my cats sure do like it! THere were 4 of them laying on it yesterday afternoon! I dont get how they can make themselves so small!

Next weekend I am going scrap booking for 3 days! I cant wait cause I will see my BFF and we always have such a great time together. I have to get my stuff together this week because I have to work on Friday and I want to leave right away. Maybe I will try to work on the back room today and find my lost adhesive...no idea what happened to that stuff. Really should get some pictures together to scrap too...maybe I will do the one with the whole group at camp...that would be fun!

Well, I guess I will stop rambling at you all...procrastination at it's best I guess! Nice of you to check in again Tatters! I think we are missing a few others lately too.
