KristiP - I am with you on the garden. I have a few cabbage started and 1 tomato. Well the tomato just had to be grown according to my 5 yo so I gave him a pot and let him have at it. the thing is almost 5 inches tall now. I also have a tray of Alabama strawberry plants my dad sent me. I need to sit down and look thru my seeds to see what needs to be started next. I'm thinking the hot peppers, last year it took them forever to ripen I think it was October by time I finally got some yellow Hot lemon peppers. But then again those plants came from Burbee and I wasnt really thrilled with the plants they sent. Half of them were dumed in the box and the tomatos didnt give me very much. The only plant that grew awesome was the boxwood basil. Anyway, yes as you can see I love to garden and can't wait for Spring. lol

Good mornign everyone. Cross your fingers for me, I'm calling someone this morning about checking out and hopefully buying a truck for me this time. We really need to send my minivan to the junk yard. Unless anyone needs some Grand Voyager parts I'll sell the whole dang van for $100 ;) Sad thing is we just installed both front sway bars brand new and junk yard struts a couple weeks ago. But oh well, the thing has to go its a death trap. No brakes, leaking gas tank, no exhast.

Today is suppose to be an awesome day in the mid to high 40's. Hopefully I'll get the coop done and take some pics of it. I also need to move the wood pile so it can be burned and be out of the way. Sp looks like a busy day, I hope everyone has a good day today.

Oh and GO KURT BUSCH !!!!! Hopefully I wont miss much of the race ;)

Good Morning Everyone! Welcome to all who are new!

And good to hear from the MIA's! CC very cute chickies! tiki wrote down the Neils swap but haven't made up my mind yet. We were there a couple of years ago and froze our butts off! It was nasT! Should have a pretty good idea of how many hens I have by then. Want to get pics of the muff faced kids today. We'll see. Will probably put on the bus race today. Hate when they line up 4-5 cars and run. Looks like a bus race to me. kristip hope your cold gets better ours are slowly fading. Can't go away fast enough! Sat down yesterday and did the initial plotting of the new garden. Already have changes in my head.

Susie "J" it was you that wanted a young roo wasn't it? Sorry I have snot brain. Was trying to remember don't you guys live near Tomah? Will be going through there on the 5th of Apr. Better get out to check on the kids. Very windy out there!

I finally got another truck for myself. I was going to buy a used Ford F350 a couple of years ago but my husband talked me into a new Tundra. He ended up taking it. So last summer a friend sold me his Chevy silverado 2500. So my husband sells the Tundra to my mom and takes the Chevy because its his "dream truck." So, I was looking for a mid-90's Ford in good condition. Couldn't find one in an automatic so I got a 2007 F150 lariat. Super nice! Leather, moonroof, lots of extras. I don't like leather so I made the dealership throw in seat covers. I am having a little buyers remorse though. It gets horrible gas mileage. But I still have my car so it will be ok. :)

Little chilly out there this morning. and freezing in this old farm house! My DD slept in till 8 this morning, I do love that sometimes, especially when I stay up too late.

I candled eggs lastnight, not exactly sure what I am looking for but it was obvious when the egg was a dud, and if there was something growing. there were 3 duds out of 33 eggs. I think I have to build a better candeling device or get a better flashlight.

chicks are doing well in the GQF Brooder, ease of use and the security of the unit. I dont have to worry about the dog or the 3 yo! I have 2 French Guinea, 3 barred rocks, and 1 silver spangled hamburg in there right now and expect my blue andalusians on Friday!

Well gotta make some breakfast, and hopefully it warms up so beaver trapping will not be so cold today!

BBC, I would take the keys from your DH...... YOUR car, YOU get to drive it. He can get his own dang vehicle..... He will be swooping in to take this one from you soon!

The way my family attacked that pineapple upside down cake, you would think they never eat. There was one piece left this AM, and my oldest DD ate it for breakfast.

I would love to get some BCM, or a combo of the Maran breeds,...... well actually I would just like to be able to have chickens! Someday I will..... I would like to have the Marans, some Araucanas, and perhaps some Jersey Giants...... a nice assortment of egg and chicken colors. My oldest DD is partial to the Australorpe..... lots of black chickens there..... the Goth bird farm!

Gave the ducks a pedicure last night, their toenails had gotten so long they were having difficulties walking around on the wire of their pen.

I should motivate, have to give the dogs a bath today since they have a visit to the Vet tomorrow. Tonight the DH and I will be attending the FVTC scholarship fundraiser; they have a silent auction and the culinary students prepare foods from different regions of the world for us to sample. France is usually showcased as dessert so there are LOTS of tarts, truffles, puff pastries..... oh so YUMMY!

I better get another cuppa..... later!

good windy morning, BBP, you will have to pretend to like one of the trucks more than the other, so then your DH will want that one and you will end up with the one you really want..

Good morning folks,,,

cold windy day in the nortwoods,,,opened the pop door and got 25 "stink eyes"

A special hi to the gardeners on board, I have 1 acre of market garden here, last year I added a 21X60' high tunnel. I have one bed of spinach going in there now,,planted last fall, too late for any winter production but having watered it a week ago with the longer days it greening up pretty well.

I have my 1st 40 tomato plants up at the first true leaf stage, I am grafting most of my maters this year so this equates to 20 scions (plants) and 20 rootstock they will be grafted to. After finding that my grafted plants actually produced 40% more fruit last year I'm making a big move in that direction. It takes a few added steps but the benefits are worth it. I might also graft a few other veggie varieties this year if time allows. All plants are started under lights and on mats in my small crowded basement,,,,then will be transfered to a 12X21' lightly ($) heated end of that tunnel. Plans are to set 1st maters on April 15th under row covers shooting for marketable fruit on a couple early varieties by July 1st,,,,,we'll see how this plays out.

Today I start another 50 tomato plants and work at another 200 this week,,,last year I had over 500 going into early May, sold enough started plants to cover my seed and materials cost last year. Having a start on a customer base I will plan to work that again.

Hot peppers are a real challenge in the north, heat last summer was my friend. This year I will use row cover on most things set in the garden, pretty amazing stuff for season extension as well as insects, worth the $ and time if you are seriously attempting to grow in WI imo.

For years I grew Atlantic Giant pumpkins for competition, built my soil and now I'm making use of that and the knowledge I gained to do this market farm, not many farmers in this area for good reason,,,,lol

anywhooo,,,,good luck with the early plants I'll try to stick to chickens here since I can ramble endlessly on gardening

I've actually done this and it worked! I hated the square dash on the Chevy but told him I just loved the truck. I'm not a fan of deisel exhaust either. That's when he wanted to "trade" vehicles. I didn't want the Tundra in the first place so we decided to sell it and try to find an older Ford. We sold our 94 F250 last summer. That thing was a beast. It was a 7.3 and could pull anything! It also left the yard filled with stinky smoke everytime we started it. I love that body style though.
