Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Apyl... Your little reddish chicks are RIR I think. I just saw a pic of them and I know hatcheries produce extras of them too. Good egg producers :D

As to kiddos and chiCk pictures, you guys have cute kids! The chick additions are just golden! Love them! I agree chicks and kids make the best photo ops.

Morning all!

Not much going on here. I guess that's a good thing. The dogs were all wired last night and kept being pesty. They wanted to play the in and out game. Turns out that there was a skunk in the area. Luckily none of my dogs set it off so to speak. A few decided to stop with the in and out game when they got a good whiff. Fred I think wanted to find the source to have a good roll.

The chicks are doing well. Ben is actually looking like a rooster-his tail is rather pointy. The biggest RIR looks roosterish to. I've named him Abner. That just leaves the little RIR. I think that is a pullet. I have to name her yet. Trying to come up with a good New England type name from the 1830's. Prudence in the one I can think of. Any suggestions?

Was at the market yesterday and I was going to get a chicken to cook up in the crock pot. For a tiny fryer they wanted $7.58! That was the cheapest one! Geez! Seriously! I can buy the already cooked roasted chickens in the deli for $6.59 that are twice the size!
Note to self: I need to call Rick and get some meaties..............

TO-That looks very good! I like holiday sauce sometimes. When it's good it;s great and when it's bad-yuck!

DrH-Sorry about your friend Donny. I have to say though, I've never heard the expression "not the sharpest hook in the tackle box". Gave me a laugh! Goldie the Naughty?!? LOL!!

To all those who posted kid and chicken pics! LOVE THEM!! I love to see little kids and chicks. They kinda go together like peanut butter and jelly!

Cind-hope Jasmine's foot heals well! Poor thing!

Well, I can't remember what else...so I have best go check the beef stew in the crock pot. That was way cheaper then a stupid fryer......

idk bF4me~ they never sound the way they do in the book. If your chicks don't have mites, which I am sure they don't. And all the poop is good, then I think it could be something to do with a vitamin deficiency. Maybe that one chick just didnt get as much to eat or something. A D and E would be the most important along with the Bs. I would suggest just getting a bottle of polyvisol and give 3 drops 2 x a day. for a week, then 3 drops a day for a week, then wean off. Cook some scrambled eggs and give daily along with olive oil and((( sprinkle some Merrks blue ribbon(from farm and fleet only $1,79) vitamins ONLY if you dont have polyvisol))) Scrambled eggs are always good and keep chick warm and just hope for the best.

Just a few comments. To early for me to be thinking clearly.

Bf4m That sounds like a great idea that Jim suggested. Renting out the barn. That way, they take care of the animals but you get the bennefit of having them there and they will keep your barn in good condition.
OH and

Baby guineas are adorable !!! They are cutier then chicks in my opinion. Have you ever seen a baby guinea keet?
And as for Turkens ............... All I can say is I think they are so dang cute, just like showgirls. I LOVE to KISS their NECKS !!!
They are real warm on your lips !! LOL

Ken, sorry I didn't reply earlier, but I'm not the one who sent you the Quail. Credit goes to TO. She replied yesterday about shipping the eggs, I just assumed you saw it so I didn't reply. Hope they get there.

Abner is such a cute name. How about Betsy for a name? I like Prudence better. Chicken at the

store LOL Once you have had the homegrown you will not go back. And there are other reasons too but I won't mention them now.

Stil my 3 hens and roo from h3ll yesterday are sitting on their rugs acting innocent as pie today. LOL

I better get off and go do something.

Hey tiki.. Cochin chick shakes her head likes something's niggling at her. She eats and drinks, but is always having this tick happening. I didn't notice it right away because she acts ok otherwise, but it is just weird the more I watch her. She doesn't seem to be circling or buzzing, but she does peck in the corner at nothing more than the rest.
I do think guineas are ugly. I know, I'm a freak in this forum! But I'm new to birds and even chicken feet creep me out a bit yet... And turkens with there yucky chickie neck showing...
I will accept all ribbing and harassment now on my fowl phobias.

lol, I did hang the Guinea comment out there for you! I will tell you how great or not great I think they are in a couple of months and outside make too much noise!

Tiki- Betsy? Reminds me of a Holstein cows name...... Hmmmm...that would be a great Barred Rock name!....I'll have to save that one for one of my BR's on the someday (soon) list!

Ooohhhh While we are playing Name MLH's Chickens, I need 4 names for the pullets I got from H&R. Two are Welsummers and 2 are Blue Andalusions...One Andie is very dark blue almost black and the other one is very light blue (splash like I think).

Chicken at the store is rather gross. I prefer the home grown variety, but I have no old hens to cook up and the roosters are just fuzz butts. Not enough meat on those yet! LOL!!

OK, here is the roo that I want to / am going to get rid of ..I mentioned him in a prior post..

I got some good pictures of the peacock and turkeys.. have to transfer them to a file as soon as I can remember how to do it..

EW EW FT! You kiss turken necks?!i just barely started kissing the top of a chicks head, and even then I usually wipe my mouth... and I think show girls are not pretty either... I know. You can send me another smack!

I will pick up the liquid vitamins. It can't hurt! Thanks for the advice!

I just put my big 3 in the coop in the garage for a little outside time. But I sweetened the deal by dumping 50 meal worms on the floor for thm to find. :D

And no I have never seen a baby guinea, but big guineas are ugly, so by my complete misguided assumptions, the babies would be ugly too. What s a guinea good or anyway? Just as a pet? Do you eat them?

Thank you for all your helpful information!
