Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

anybody still up? I have a quick post and then I'm off to bed..

the young guys that I sold Royal Palm turkeys to last year have decided that they don't want to keep turkeys anymore..

they have all mature, young birds.. 4 royal palm hens, 3 sweet grass hens and 2 sweet grass toms.

this is a good time to buy turkeys,, they should start laying by the end of Feb..

I told Rob that I would post it here.. if nobody is interested, they are going onto Craig's List..

Yep, I'm up!
Gee Jim, the only turkeys I plan on getting this year are for the table.

TO... glad your feeling better, but you still should rest more.

Sweet.... Love all the counter and cabinet space! Looks like it's going to be a real nice place when you get it done.

Angie... A broody hen will usually stay broody 21 to 28 days or until they are sure nothing will hatch. Although sometimes they will "break" early. Personally, I like to give mom her own area, less stress, less chance of something happening to the chicks. When mine go broody and I don't want to let them hatch the eggs, I just pick them up, take the eggs, pet and talk to them a bit, then put them back.... seems to tame them a bit. Trying to reach in in front of them is usually a bad idea.

Can't think of anything good to tell you... not up to responding to too many posts .... so night all!

Good Night Cindladay !!

Good Morning! Autumn (my 3yo) went to bed waaayyy to early so of course is up way to early. So I get the joy of being up before 6am. lol I gave the chicks and ducks some out of the brooder free time yestarday and they loved it. They were jumping and trying to fly and climbing on everything. They climb all over Autumn and she loves it. It's interesting how they grow at different speeds. The Easter Egger is growing super fast and getting huge wings as well as a couple Barred Rocks. But the RIR's and Silkies have very minimal wings. The Ancona, blue andalusian and Silver Lakenvelder are in the middle. For once DH doesnt have madatory OT this weekend so we're going to get the chicken area done and try to clean up the yard. He thinks the yard can be done in two days if he works on it all day but I doubt it. But hey he could prove me wrong.
Oh and Meyer hatchery called me in regards to my review of them her on BYC,and they gave me a larger credit and was basically begging me to give them another try. But since I got the ducks I am not ordering any more chicks right now so I just got the credit back to my card. I told her maybe I would try them again in the future but not right now.
I seen the post about Turkey's. I would love to have a turkey BUT I dont feel like building anymore areas or putting up anymore fences right now. As it is I need to get the fence for the goats still.

Question: What should I put inside the brooder? Hay ? Does it matter what kind?
Also, do the laying boxes need to be as specific height from the floor? Also I'm thinking since I only have 6 pullets left would 2 boxes be enough or should I go with 3 to be on the safe side in case I get more?

I was wanting to use this set up for the laying boxes. (not my coop, I found the image on google)

Good Morning Everyone! Amy you made my day! As soon as I saw him I busted out laughing. What a handsome happy little man! Laura asked what I laughed about, when I told her she had to come look. She said aww what a cutie he is. He's growing so fast! Think my G'pa cycle is activating. The youngest DD and her Beau are coming over Sun and bringing supper. The first thing I asked her was if they were bringing Christopher with? Beau's 2 yr old. He's the one that calls me ol man Joe. I have so much fun with lil kids. Wonder why? Hmm. Sandi you know the old joke about gettin up to go in the middle of the night? It's when you don't get up that it's a problem. mazo when you said Mr. Brewer it reminded me of the first time someone called me sir. It blew me away. Wasn't long after that the first AARP invitation showed up in the mail and I was like what the H? Going to dig out that pic before I call BB. There's one other person I would like to find from my childhood. His family moved up to the Turtle Flambeau around 1960. My god so many of you are so young! Sf that looks like your going to have a super nice place when it's finished! I can see why you like it. Boy after letting the lil ones into the big coop area yesterday they really want to be out and about. Wish I had just one of Bf4's out buildings! One of the big ones.

If it makes you feel any better, I am called sir way too often. When I grow my beard and don't wear a hat and my grey hair shows! Kinda depressing when a cute bartender calls you sir though, at that point the realization is I might as well just sit down enjoy my beer and go home!

Ain't it the truth! Just play the cards your delt.

Just seconds ago I found that pic I was looking for of Bill and I. It's dated July 63. We're both holding the carp but I'm holding the pole he he! As soon as the battery is charged on the phone I'm gonna call him. Hope it's him.

That was a blast from the past! It was the Bill I knew/know. After thinking a bit he remembered me too. He said we had a great time together I told him we must have if I remembered his name and where he was from. His Aunt and Uncle were the dam keepers there that's how he came to be there that summer. He sounds like a super nice guy and says him and his wife are planning a trip up there this summer. Told him where we are and said to be sure and stop in if we're there. Did the math and it was nearly 49 years ago.

Going to have to make a copy of the pic and keep it at the camper in case they show up.

GOOD morning all! YES! I am "officially better!" Just a little cough left....not so bad. DrH--ya gotta scan that pic and post it for us to see! If you cant scan it then just take a pic of it and post...that would be cool to see you "young"

OK so my neighbor is coming to help me get the other 16' dog fence panels today. We are going to take the FB trailer to get then. I asked him to help because I know that I wont be able to get the trailer back into the barn myself...it is a 20 footer I think....DH hates when I go and pick up "god stuff" so I know he wouldnt help me this weekend If I asked. Better this way, IF we can get it placed exactly back where it was!

good morning AGAIN !!! I had a nice long post written about an hour ago and then my network failed me.. I am finally back online.. Now I will try to recreate my lost masterpiece..

Yeah guys, it is sad when a waitress starts treating you nicely.. that means that she feels safe from you..

Apyl.. any kind of hay is good for bedding.. the chicks like to pick out the tender leaves and weed seeds.. If you are going to use the bedding for in your garden, make sure you compost it very thoroughly so that all the weed seeds are destroyed.

I made a bunch of those 5 gal bucket nests a few years ago.. none of my chickens ever used them.. I did not provide a board in front of them for the chickens to step on, so that could have been the problem..

one more note about the turkeys.. Rob's brother is the one who takes care of them and he no longer wants to mess with them.. So they will be going at a good price..

Turkeys can be penned with just about any other bird or animal.. so no extra facilities are required..

I have found that my free rangers stay right close to food and home..

I might just buy them and resell them.. there are 9 hens and 2 toms..

i am going to cut this short in case I lose it again..
