Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Speaking of burns, I got my fingers stuck to the inside of our chest freezer the other night. Apparently my hand was wet. I had to yell for my son so he could bring a cup of water into the garage. It hurt a lot! If the kids would have been at school when it happened I'm not sure what I would have done. I now have painful, weeping blisters on my fingers.

good morning AGAIN !!! I had a nice long post written about an hour ago and then my network failed me.. I am finally back online.. Now I will try to recreate my lost masterpiece..

Yeah guys, it is sad when a waitress starts treating you nicely.. that means that she feels safe from you..

Apyl.. any kind of hay is good for bedding.. the chicks like to pick out the tender leaves and weed seeds.. If you are going to use the bedding for in your garden, make sure you compost it very thoroughly so that all the weed seeds are destroyed.

I made a bunch of those 5 gal bucket nests a few years ago.. none of my chickens ever used them.. I did not provide a board in front of them for the chickens to step on, so that could have been the problem..

one more note about the turkeys.. Rob's brother is the one who takes care of them and he no longer wants to mess with them.. So they will be going at a good price..

Turkeys can be penned with just about any other bird or animal.. so no extra facilities are required..

I have found that my free rangers stay right close to food and home..

I might just buy them and resell them.. there are 9 hens and 2 toms..

i am going to cut this short in case I lose it again..

I didnt know turkeys could be kept with other birds. My grandpa always had them in a different pen than his ducks and chickens. But then again the Turkey never made it past Thanksgiving. DH would kill me if I got any more animals right now lol we still have to get the chicken run done this weekend and work on putting the fence up for the goat pen. I may convince him for next year :)
And good to know about the hay, I dont have a compost set up yet. I tried last year but never did figure out where to put it and what to put in it to start it. I would like to start one this year, I just need to figure where to put it.

sweetfoley, Those floors look like the "floating" hardwood ? I installed a lot of them for different people.. they are nice.. It has been a long time since I did the last one.. IDK how they hold up overall, but the ones in my brother's bedrooms are about 10 years old and they look as nice as the day we put them in..

No, they're solid wood (maple, I think - they were installed by the previous owner), nailed to the subfloor. We had to tear the floors out upstairs because they weren't nailed down properly and began to buckle... and, apparently, when they started to buckle, the previous owner went downstairs and put screws through the ceiling down there to "suck" the floors upstairs back down. So it was about a week of unscrewing a million screws so that we could pry them up!

We could remove all the nails, put the wood floors back in, and refinish the surface ourselves... but it's going to be a whole lot easier just to put some nice carpet in the bedrooms. Everyone keeps telling me to just put in a nice laminate wood in to match the floors downstairs, but I'm too picky and stubborn - if I have real wood downstairs, I want REAL wood upstairs too! It would cost us about another $3k to have it completely re-done, and that's money probably better-spent on a new furnace. We did save all the flooring we pulled out - that can be a project for "someday".

Also, jvls1942, my DH wants to get into turkeys this year... I have to go take a look at the lean-to that he wants to convert into a turkey pen/run and make sure it's safe, but if it checks out, I might be interested, but couldn't take them until next weekend when we move!

Did I see someone post awhile back about a swap in Beaver Dam this month? I was hoping to make it to that one this year...

BF4 - The roof (and the entire second floor) was brand-new in 2007, but I'll keep that in mind!

Our master bath didn't get finished today because the plumber wasn't able to make it out there. Framing is all done though, and it looks amazing. Hopefully by Monday everything will be installed, hooked up, and functioning. It would be awesome to have a toilet put back in and the water turned back on for when we're over there working! I'm too shy to go back behind the shed to pee with so many construction workers buzzing around the yard!

I can't figure out how to post thumbnail images with the new BYC format... can we still do that, or no?
Here's the house (after the remodeling is done, I have a LOT of yard-work to do!):

And can anyone tell from this picture if this hedge along the driveway is Lilacs? They're just starting to bud...

WOW Sweetfolly that is super nice! I am jealous lol Very nice.

Nice coop too Apyl but not yours ha?

My internet was out of commission for a while today. Must have been all that picture work. LOL

OUCH hope you feel better soon BBP. Burns are sooo painful. Hope that guy at work feels better too. Yow! That sounds aweful.

Cute pic Dr Ha

Jim do you have pics of a sweet grass? How much for a pair of royal palms?

Glad you are better TO.

Went outside a few minutes ago and everything was real quiet. Hm must ave a Hawk fly over. Well I think all my chickens are still here. I will find out tonight.

It is a nice house Sf.

They do look like lilacs to me. :)

I candled my eggs last night and now am down to one incubator. I have just a few eggs in LG to try it out. Looks like I am going to have to do some bum trimming later as I am not too much a fan of the AI.

You guys are my people! Should I be scared? I'm a brand noobie who has had chicken wishes for several years now. And this is the year we're going to do it! I've been steeped in R&D for a while now and thus, discovered this site! ...like ALL OVER the web! very prolific!

We'll be starting in on building our chicken tractor that will rove our 3 rural acres about 40 min E of the state capitol. Is there anyone in our neck of the woods? "Our" refers to me, my hugsband, 4 year old daughter and furbabies.

I spoke with Rebecca today at nearby Abendroth Hatchery and she was so helpful. I feel like I'm in good hands with her. Right now I'm thinking 1 Silkie, 2 Buff Orpingtons and an Easter Egger :)
I look forward to getting to know y'all...
See ya!

Welcome MXM.. glad to have you on board. I think you are probably closest to Hens and Roos and TerriO who are East of Madison. I am south of madison 30 miles.

Well got to meet Hens N Roos today and she was a lovely host for me and my two wild kiddos! Her kids entertained them while we talked birds. She has a gorgeous setup and graciously imparted me with some eggs for the incubator. Trying to get the hovabator set good. Had to get a new thermometer with humidity counts on it. The two thermometers we had attached and in there were severly disagreeing so wanted a third opinion. My humidity was too high so trying to get it all ok so I can put my eggs in Sunday morning. Hoping this goes well.

Hope that everyone is ready for a gorgeous weekend. We are already plotting all the outdoor stuff to get done. Should be wonderful.
