Hi All!
What a long read it was! Opened another window so I can post as I go!

TO... The pantries around here love to take eggs! I don't know if yours will take the "unpacked" . If you don't have cartons I would call and see. Made some GREAT omelets the other night with mushrooms, broccoli and goat cheese. LOL..... isn't Tommy suppose to be the one showing off?

MLH... Sorry about the buck... sucks!

FT... Cool link!.... I entered a bunch of those a few months ago... still waiting for them to tell me I won something!

I know you asked Terry but here's my 2 cents anyway

when I get 3 or 4 days worth setting on the counter, that's when I wash (if needed) and pack the eggs in cartons. Then into the mini frig. I try to rotate stock in there to sell. Eggs I sell are a week or so old. That's still about a month (or more) fresher than most stores! Yep, when I was a kid we never refrigerated eggs. And most other countries (as far as I know) don't either. Humm, haven't soft boiled an egg in a long time... thought I used to do them warm... my dad had 2 -3 soft boiled eggs every morning.

mxm... yep, nice little coop! May you grow out of it soon!

CC... Jack is cutie!

Well,Short night and long day! Young son learned to make Apple and lemon meringue pies. Then we had just enough time to squeeze in an angle food cake! I have to frost that for him because he had a meeting to go to. All in all he did good and I didn't have to help much. It would have been better if he didn't get so many phone calls!

Sure could tell when it was raining or not.... chickens out... chickens in... chickens out... chickens in... LOL All day long!

I should check my asparagus. And what ever else may be coming up early.

Well, a few things to do before bed, better get them done.... Night all!

Had a great time with the kids last night FFF was a big success! Got teased about giving the oldest some folding money while she was here. Told the youngest fine then see how much you get!

Dang kids! But it was waay too short and I had a hard time adressing everyone. We all talk at once. Room full of alpha's.Donny's here gotta go!

I keep them there on the counter for a bit, like sometimes 3 or 4 days...they eventually get into the refrigerator....I dont normally wash them; but with the weather wet they can get pretty nasty. I usually just eat the messy ones and wash them right before I crack them if they're really bad! I figure with the "egg bloom" intact the eggs are meant to sit around in the nest for sometimes up to 2 weeks and they are still able to develop a baby...so how bad can they be? I read somewhere that they NEVER refrigerate eggs in Europe! I have found out though if you want soft boiled eggs you must start with cold eggs when cooking for 3 mins! Also cold eggs work much better for poaching!
OK--enough procrastinating...I need to move NOW!
Terri O

This is really good info! We dont' wash or refrigerate our eggs either and I've had horrible results when trying to boil eggs. I'll try a few cold ones and see if that works!

cindllady you opened another window? I am thinking huh? lol I need another cup of coffee.
thanks for the compliment DrH. Usually when they see the camera they all come running to get their picture taken. Except for a few that are deathly afraid of it.
I see one of my moderns has a death wish. She was over rooting in the long grass in that little gully there by the woods (thats where a coyote came out and grabbed a chicken once)~then later I found her in the shed digging in some rat poison. I think I got her out of there before any harm was done.

Good morning! Actually there is a thread on here called "crazy easy way to HB eggs" in an eggshell this is what it says: Start your water to boiling. Put eggs in water one at a time with a spoon or ladle. Bring back to a boil and boil for 14 minutes. Remove from burner and run cold water over eggs.
That's it....it is amazing how easily they peel! If you do them right away there isnt even that ugly green ring around the yolks! I have done eggs fresh from the coop and they still work this way. Dont know why....I make deviled eggs all the time now cause it's so easy to peel them. (I used to hate that job for sure!)

So DrH--how is friend Donny doing these days? He has been there and interupted your reading several times now and we havent had a report! I hope he's holding up ok.

That chicken tractor is going to be nice! Did you design it yourself or follow a plan? I am anxious to see it all done and if it will be light enough to move. I didnt see any handles on the ends for moving it about. I did a tractor that I put rabbits in--it worked really well...they liked the fresh grass every day for sure. I had made it for chickens--a friend and I were going to do meaties...but they pooped too much and matted the grass down so bad that it took forever to recover. That was in one of my early "chicken years"...now I know that any place chickens are will shortly have virtually no vegetation!

I have no plans for today...I am actually hoping the people will go somewhere so I can work on my back room. I now have an incentive...I want to be able to get my scrapbook stuff out so I can make a new egg sign. I am going to cut the letters out with my Crikut (a paper cutting machine) and then trace the shapes and PAINT them on the wood. Hopefully it will be the last one I have to make for a long time! My best barnwood one got hit with the snowplow a few years back and since then I have found I am making a new one nearly every year! LOL--DH just asked what my plans were for today...read him this paragraph. Maybe he will take the hint....
yesss.gif

Jim I hope you have pondered long and hard about dicks on nests....still cant believe I typed that!

NJ--those little guineas are just doing what they do! They are hunting for worms and bugs! They cant help it that chick toes look like worms! I never had that problem raising them together though...do they have enough space? Enough litter so the chick toes arent so visible? How about some chicken toys?
lau.gif

Suppose I better get up and get some more coffee...sure wish that cup could fill itself sometimes! Have a fantastic day everyone...OMG--DH must be tuned into my post...he just came over here and asked if I wanted more coffee...ow he says I need to post about "the 2 minute drill" Yup, you guys, one thing on your minds all the time!!!!!

So once again--have a fantastic day everyone! Later! Terri O

Well, we set up some traps last night for the weasel and didn't catch him. My husband actually saw him yesterday. He was working in the yard and heard one of the chickens in the barn clucking angrily and he ran to see the weasel about 3 feet away from the chicken staring at each other. It then ran away so he was able to see it's escape route. He went to Farm and Fleet and got some traps and the lady there told him there were more humane ways to catch the weasel.
lau.gif
I thought that was so funny. At this point my 8 yo daughter wants a weasel skinned cap.
lau.gif
Anyway, hubby did surgery on the dead chicken he'd used in the coon trap the night before that the weasel had been working on and not setting off the trap cause he wasn't big enough. Used it for bait. No weasel this morning, but all of our ladies are still there too. Our new coop is supposed to be ready this weekend and a lady is also supposed to be coming to pick up 5 of the teenagers. That will leave us with 8 adults, 5 teenagers and 22 - 1 month olds. Our original intent was to only keep about 12-15 chickens, so we still have a few to get rid of without loosing too many.

I thought the same thing about you when I saw all the feathers, I mean hair all over your face !!!

OMG these must have all been relatives hey ?
gig.gif
Remeinds me of one time I was talking and talking and of course loudly, and someone said, who are you talking to, I said, anybody that will listen !!!
gig.gif

So exactly where do you live ???? Are you and BigFam close to each other ? I just told DH that we have to stop by if you are that close. Maybe Bigfam can meet up too. Wow, that will be a riot and a laugh watching the two of you. I won't get a word in edge wise !!! LOL

We have to get some newer used tires on our ATV trailer before we can come get the snowmobiles. So it will be on a Sat or Sun when DH is not working.

So what does FFF mean ?

Oh and speaking of get togethers, you people out west, why wait til fall? You should all get together on the weekend that Bigz's Bash is going on. That is of course if you are not able to make it to his. Then on Monday the Cheese head thread will be burning up !!! LOL

Ok, back to reading.
