Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Hi, there,

I live in the town of Mukwonago WI. I have never had chickens but would like to try. I live in a subdivision, in a 1+ acre lot. When I asked, the town was vague on the subject of backyard chickens. I only want to keep 4-6 chickens, no roos of course. A call to the town building inspector (apparently he is in charge of this), said that while I shouldn't have chicks (he couldn't state a specific law outlawing them in my area), he doesn't go around neighborhoods looking for chicken coops. He would only check if a neighbor complained. He did say that the subject had been brought up about a year ago at a town meeting by some citizens but a decision had not been made. I am tempted to just go ahead anyway. I can keep my coop somewhat concealed as my yard is surrounded by tall arbovite.I believe that even the people in Milwaukee can now have chickens. One neighbor won't care, the other is a jerk. It seems that my neighbors junk is not a problem for the town, but apparently chickens are! now I'm venting, sorry.
Please advise if you live in the town of Mukwonago, WI or Waukesha county.

Ok, I've been slacking in my reading here & am a few pages behind, but I am not really in Mukwonago. I'm close, in the town of Vernon, but if you'd like to talk chicken or see my setup, bj, you are more than welcome. Just send me a PM. And

I read this a couple of times to make sure you were actually going to wait till next year on an animal project....
[/quote Yeah yeah... Don't you start on me too. I am an unfortunate and unwilling participant in the mass hysteria induced by backyardchicken.com and the enablers subscribed on the Cheesehead thread. Said enablers could be held legally responsible for their overwhelming influence on a mentally weak woman, EX. Craigslist postings, but my kind and generous nature will shield said enablers from prosecution or persecution. :D

If you can hide your chickens and your coop why do they really need to know????
I agree if it's in your yard on property you pay taxes on !

Hey guys...glad to see the banter continues...
Went out to dinner to celebrate the end of the weight loss thing. DH was the big winner on the team losing 24 pounds. He wants to lose 24 more....I lost 6...LOL!
No more guineas have hatched...I think they may be done. Kinda sad.
Forgot to tell you all that it was a bad night for guineas...first Jim's with the owl and then mine with a car! Mine was the buff one...yup, one I was hoping to make more of...figures!

I am so tired and my knees are hurting a bunch...maybe mmore gluten besides the piece of parrot food I ate last week...(dumb) I am hitting the hay!
Nighties and sweet dreams to you...let's ALL dream of poultry tonite! Terri O

You know what they say BigFam...... don't count your chicks before the hatch..... shipped eggs=broken air cells. I hope you get very few of those....

MxM, DD LOVED your nails! ;)

Nothing else new here. Just finished off the cheesecake.

Going to make soap tomorrow.

I've been incredibly lucky about that... But I'm not taking it for granted! So now I'm challenging myself with a staggered hatch AND trying ducks for the first time. Oh well, lots of fun, but I'm no Jim. I can't even imagine setting so many eggs... Yet...;)
