Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

EarthLady: I post and sell mine at work for 2/doz I tried taking ad down for a week and putting u p t 3/doz-no takers. At 2/doz can sell as many as I can supply. Im surious what others sell theres for as well? Also, I know we had a discussion before on whether there had to be lic or insurance to sell eggs-did we ever come to a conclusion? I live in WI but work in MN-so that may change things too if there is a license requirement?

Morning all!

Well good thing I left the quail in the bator, I have one out so far a few rocking....I'll go do errands and see how many are out when I come back!

EL-I "sell" my eggs for $2 a dozen. I don't really like to "sell" them since WI seems a little rule-ie and such regarding selling off back yard egg over flow! When we were in Ca, we just but "for incubation only" on the carton and if the people wanted to eat the eggs, then that was their business. That "released" us from all the crap the CA made you go through to be able to sell edible eggs. I don't know if that is a thing we can do in this state though.
If people want to give me money fine if not then that is ok too. I sell mine to people I know....If I sell some to a new buyer they have been "sent" to me buy the people I know...I feel like I'm running an illegal underground egg selling ring...LOL!!

WCc-Hope you feel better Carol! Ideal is good about their chick policy. Hope it works out for you...Sorry about the losses....

Well, best get the chores done on this dreary day....

Good morning! With 27 posts to read I decided to do the two windows thing today as I am feeling "bleary" this morning...I think I always overdo it on Tuesdays and then pay for it on Wednesdays...I hope I dont reiterate too many things posting as I am reading...

FT--they are Toulouse goslings...are you needing some?

MLH--I think that is exactly what happened with those breeds of horses. I remember reading somewhere that there was a difference in opinion or location or something and the two breeds developed from that...shoot, not I will have to find that article and refresh my brain. Owning a Rocky Mountain I fell I should know! LOL!
So how many quail hatched? Mine are molting right now so I am getting zero eggs...heck, with this rain that started during the night they might all be DEAD! I didnt cover all the pen last night so they are probably wet...
I have two kids in my 4H club that show chickens...I will ask her if she is interested in your birds. I dont know what she has because she is new this year.

RAIM you are funny...yeah I guess that was a dumb question...or not! It's hard to keep up with who has what on here for sure...not like you are doing NOTHING all day so your head is empty! Why dont you know what sex your guineas are? Just listen to their calls and you can tell. I never saw my guineas mating either and most of their eggs appear viable. (and I have one surprise baby already)

Hey Ken I am betting on number one being a roo and 2 and 3 being pullets. Let me know how I did!

BL4--I am glad Prom is exciting at your house! I remember it here and it was stressful! Everyone would go to a house together (my girls were big fans of group dates) and the adults would go too. Then there would be pictures galore and hors-d-orves (OK I tried 15 times to get a word so that the dictionary would tell me the right way to spell it-no luck) and drinks (for the adults) sometimes a whole party after the kids left! (usually in a limo!) Sheesh--when we had prom the guy came over and Mom took a picture or two then we left. I hope all involved have a great time!

Great job on your hatch Jodiea!
DAS--that pic of you and your birds are is adorable! You (I hope it's you) should have a cold one sitting next to you though...no shirt...must be pretty warm!!

Wow Jim! That is all I can say...you have accomplished much in the last few days. And guess what? I had no thoughts of updating for you...I was too busy lusting after the cast iron skillets and rack of cast iron pots! I love tho open shelving thing...doors are such a waste of time--and you have to wash them all the time too....yeah mine are WHITE!

About selling eggs...I got a paper from the farmer''s market thing in Waterloo (was going to sell eggs) but you have to have a permit/license to do that. There is nothing to do if you have a sign on the farm or if you have folks come to the farm to buy. Another person in the area got their eggs into the Sentry store to sell...they must be making a bundle! I have seen their farm...unless they have changed it greatly those chickens are NOT free range! I sell my eating eggs for $2.50/doz. Often when I have too many I do a 2 for 1 or I put them in 18 count cartons and sell them for the same...or the cats knock two buckets of eggs off the counter and that takes care of the surplus! (like last night)

I think I got everybody! The big goose in the bator is picking at the top of the screen....thinking it is time for him to go downstairs!. I really which I could just sell him and his friend...they do so much better out on the grass! Well you all are probably tired of my rambling here...I am felling so tired again...I might just go up and take a nap after I get the critters fed. I was kind of waiting to see if the rain would stop...nope...raincoat today for sure!
Have a great one! Terri O---who needs to get hay in the rain!

Amy, you will have that Troy Bilt for a long time.. I bought mine in 1977.. they are very repairable, not that they hardly ever need to be.. For a couple of years, I did custom garden tilling.. good money in that, and hardly no competition..

the main drawback is Tine replacement cost.. very $$$ !! You can get aftermarket tines, for a bit less if you search the web.. I am on my 4th set.. the first set cost me about $48.oo.. Now they are over $300.oo.. If you learn how to weld, you can resurface the cutting edges.. It would have cost me $10.oo per tip to have it done.. that is 16 tips times $10.oo = $160.oo
I know it; when DH brought it home I did a little dance. My dad has the same machine, he bought it used and I grew up tilling their garden with it. It's like climbing back on a beloved old bike.

I would have to assume the tines are well worn; how do you tell when they need replacing/resurfacing? One of our neighbors works on small engines, pretty sure he can weld. He tuned up the tiller for us last week.

I sell eggs for $2.50, some people give me $3. I recommend a don't ask don't tell policy when it comes to regs.

Maran #2

Maran #3

So what are the thoughts?
Hens or Roos?

I am ready for opinions... They are all Blue or Blue Copper Marans.

KEN

Hey Ken, Where did you get the chicken in the first picture. I'm afraid that isn't a pure silkie. Cross maybe but not pure.
It doesn't have silkie feathers, black skin and dark beak. How many toes does it have. Cute whatever cross it is.

TO but don't guineys all make the same sound but the hens make another noise also? I don't have the patience to wait and listen. H3ll I barely have the time in the a.m. to feed them.... ya ya get off the computer.... if I did that I would never be on here. as it is I read and type as fast as I can lol
ok I gotta run, I'm running way behind today, I had to run and pick up mom, she took her van in for repairs
sat here trying to figure out what the heck I was gonna say... oh YA I remember, I have the hardest time selling our eggs for $1.50 everyone around here says they can go to the store and get them cheaper so why bother with me?
rant.gif
I figure if I sell them for $1/dz that will at least pay for the food right? NOT! stupid people! guess they figure I'm rolling in the dough/money
later all

Any body ELSE for t shirts??? lol

FT, It was from a mix of birds. 4 toes, but I am wondering if it has a silkie father (one of the options), because of the head and the legs are well feathered and poofy like a silkie.

I will look at what the options are again and post them.

The conclusion was/is........ You don't need a license to sell eggs at your home/farm. Unless of course the amount is I believe over $5000 or something like that. BUT that means only at your home/farm. That does not mean you can even deliver the eggs to work or a neighbors. I had that discussion with the woman at the Dept of Ag or whoever I talked to a few years ago.
This means that in order to sell even at a farmers market you need a license. BS if you ask me.
I remember asking her and what is the penalty/fine if you are "caught" selling without a license....... she said nothing !!!

So that being said.......... I sell mine for $2 a doz.. Duck eggs for $3.50 (that just went up from $3) I too tried to increase the price for my chicken eggs...... no dice especially up here and being so far out. I sell my eggs to a few local bars and they have their regular customers that buy them.
We are in the process of getting our farm LLC (Limited Liability Com) so that would at least protect the farm and the few assets we have should someone get sick from our eggs. Or at least make it more difficult to sue us personally.
Just need to find the $130 to do it. So maybe instead of buying a tent and mattress for the bash I should get my LLC ???? I keep putting it off.
th.gif
Oh wait, I don't have the money for the tent either right now !!! Guess I'll need to sell more eggs !!
