Happy Mother's Day

Great day in the north, first day to have all 3 groups of birds loose in the yard, lets see that would be 54 birds, regular math. Everything had gone well for a few hours and then "Little Jerry Seinfeld" (my RIR rooster) decided to impose himself upon the 10.5 wk old Marans, no damage but he did pick my best looking young roo to chase. Got the juveniles back in the run.

IF anyone wants or needs a RIR roo I would gladly bring him to the bash,,,,,he's 2nd fiddle to my BCM roo and really needs his own flock. To see where I got the name check this out

The Fool's Day hatch is enjoying the yard, funny stuff watching them. I had a new egg customer stop, some folks from Eastern EU, now from Illinois, they stayed for 30 minutes watching the birds,,,lol

I copied Jim's cage/coop, those roller doors are great. I will add a second set to the bottom when time allows, then use this as a breeder/broody/growout setup next spring. Also adding some lawn mower wheels to ease mobility.

fresh beefsteak shrooms(our answer to Morels), venie backstrap, roasted Vidalias, and a rhubarb custard pie for dinner,,,,,,,,,,crud now I need a snack,,,bbl

Happy Mother's Day!

DH and I installed 2 windows and a nest box in the coop today and another window in the run area for ventilation.

The chicks were afraid to go into the coop for a bit, but I think they are okay now! I'll find out when evening comes around. I assume that if they are still bothered they will throw a fit come dark like they did when I changed to a different light in the coop a while back.

Happy to hear about all the chickies hatching out there!

Love the mohawk chick!!!

Awesome Day in Superior 70+ degrees all day, most folks around here tend to get mostly nekked and hang out in the back yard. The bold ones go for a walk to McDs through the alleys to see who is really around. We laid out long enough to get a good tan started.

My wife and I enjoyed time in the backyard then came in and watched TV and took naps. Oh, I don't think I told you what my wifey did 10 days ago, she was walking into the house and tripped on a coat hanger that someone dropped on the street. She caught herself on her right hand pinky snapping it in half. She had to have emergency surgery on her hand and now has 2 pins holding it together. So I have been trying to manage some of the wetter household chores to almost no avail. So back to dishes.

I have 24 brown and blue eggs set in the bator and have been turning them by hand a few times already. Humidity has evened out and things are looking good.

Someone feed my ladies an entire loaf of bread this week without my knowledge and their laying has slowed way down. I went to work at 7am and came back around 8pm and found 3 whole slices and a whole bunch of pieces. Then another day last week when I was gone for an hour they did it again. I know they are trying to be helpful, but really ask first. Any thoughts on how to get them laying again?

I was thinking of pushing some BOSS on them now that the price has come down. Anymore advice?

Have a great rest of Mother's Day!

Good advice about the broodies...some mothers are great with being protective...others not so much...some folks have the seprate broody housing for each broody hen, making life so easy for all, chicks mom and me...trouble is that most of us wish we had more housing. I don't know one single person that ever said...I have wasted housing space for broodys! Build them and they will come....

How about that chicken math now...

Love the pics...and the bull...Friday is closing in fast now....

Evening all!!
Boofitul day today!! Got some more hostas and I got a Bleeding Heart since it was so pretty. Maynards had a sale on hostas so I got two of each variety.
Of the hostas I got, one variety will get huge it's called a Blue Angel and the other one is a Brim Cup I believe. I was going to take pics and ask y'all your opinions on Flower bed and grass vs. all flower bed, but I have decided to go all flower bed and get rid of the grass/weeds since some of the hostas will get huge I think I'll need the space.

Dh and I started work on planting the garden. He planted the veggies that needed mounds and he did a great job. We got some cucumbers, squash, a melon and some pumpkins. I think I might try to make a vertical grid for them...
I planted the tomatoes. We will have a Salsa Hybrid (DH's choice), Mortgage Lifter, Orange Blossom, Black Prince, Ace 55, Roma, Sweet 100, Black Cherry, Red Pear, Fuzzy Peach....I'm missing some! We also got the peppers planted, Peppercini, Sweet Banana, California Wonder.
The Ace 55's and California Wonders were from our local FFA plant sale. I didn't really want them but I wanted to support the FFA and I wanted veggies so I got those. I also got some nice marigolds from them as well to plant in my containers with some of the tomatoes.
DH also planted some pinto beans....I have to make a grid for those and plant some peas and make a grid for them.

Well, that's about it!! The critters are all good!

Hope y'all had a nice Mother's Day!
