Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Hi all
Chickens are a week and half in age . The family has grown attached to them . I on the other hand ,look at them as a bird, go figure. We lost one of our chickens last night . I am not sure it is common or not. The other's sprouted up in a week or so , well this one just lagged and looked like it grew very little. It was eating and drinking , I assumed it was just a slow grower. So I have a 2 barred rocks and Austrlorp left, the barred rocks are a hoot. It turns out our dog is petrified of the chickens . So maybe they will be able to have at it in the yard later in the year. Our dog is about 80lbs , but just ran to his kennel when we showed him the chicken in our hand , it was really weird.

Thanks Bigfamily
I was pretty sure it was just the case , We washed it's but to make sure it wasn't bound up or something. My family is still looking at me like a murderer. We will stick with 3 for now and work out the kinks maybe pick up2 next year. I extremely happy with the barred rocks. I think the Austrolorp is follower, the barred rocks are always probing and trying to figure way out .

BBP: Just have to say one more time-you make adorable babies! LOL Deliliah and Harriet are co parenting the 3 new chicks in the brooder pen-its adorable!!! And they are getting a long wonderfully. Have you decided if you are going to the bash this weekend?

Dan22-Yep, I agree with BigFam. Some chicks just don't thrive and there is nothing you can do. More often then not it is genetic so that might help your family understand why the little one passed. I'm sorry you lost one.

I love Barred Rocks too. They are great birds and so friendly. Barredies have always been my favorite breed... Australorps are terrific too and very beautiful birds when they grow up. I have some Aussie babies right now. These are the first for me in over 10 years or longer....

Chickenhead Bookclub:
A Discovery of Witches was pretty good. But I did not know, so be warned, it's the new first part of a multi-series! I got to the end and I was all "What? WHAT?? I have to WAIT for the next one?"

I'm used to picking up series after hearing all about the hubub and the series has long been completed so I can read them one after the other! So spoiled!

Another one that caught me unawares and am so glad I stumbled upon is:

"Good Reads" has it under the "Quirky Southern Fiction" I enjoyed this one thoroughly.

Got more posts to read, but books are a passion so I had to throw my .02 in!

YES, BL, I read 50 Shades! Rather eye-opening if you ask me!

Seeing as I'd never read anything of the sort before. It's not exactly stellar writing but I did indeed become invested in the characters as the series went on. And yes, bought and read the series on the Kindle Fire. A friend who was just in New York said she saw someone reading the first book on the subway.

If I had seen someone doing that I'd have to ask them in a very loud voice if they'd gotten to the scene where... and spell out several sordid situations... in a very loud voice

I cant go to the bash. I have my 2 bottle baby bucklings to take care of. I can't drive them 4 hours there either. If it was closer I'd bring them along.
